Chapter 6 - The Fifth-Tier Luck That Can't Be Touched

Kagune as lush as bird feathers wrapped around his entire body. His original height of just over a meter surged past two meters in an instant.

If Hiro hadn't witnessed the transformation himself, he would never have connected the masked little guy from earlier with the giant now standing before him.

"There's no scent of demons, angels, fallen angels, gods, or vampires."

A distorted voice-like it had passed through a voice changer-came from within the One-Eyed Owl in the distance and reached Hiro's ears.

"Young man, what exactly are you?"

Even from this far away, you can smell my scent.

As expected of you, Yoshimura Eto.

But when have you ever smelled demons, angels, or fallen angels?

And if angels really noticed you, why didn't they purify you on the spot?

"Although I am indeed quite strong," Hiro said calmly, separated by roughly ten meters, spreading his hands in an innocent gesture, a trace of helplessness in his tone, "just as you sensed, I am a human. A pureblood human."

"Asuna and I were only passing by. We had no intention of disturbing your meal."

As he spoke, his gaze wasn't on Yoshimura Eto's kakuja form.

It was fixed on her core.

On the silver-white number floating above it.

"5."

Envy flickered briefly, then faded.

Hiro understood his limits clearly. With only Intrinsic Time Control and Finger Gun, he had no chance of directly defeating Yoshimura Eto-the One-Eyed Owl.

Let alone lasting tens of minutes. Or hours.

After all, his fingers were only so long.

Even if they pierced her defense, how much damage could they really do?

He might not even be able to touch her true body hidden inside.

"Human?" Yoshimura Eto's tone made her disbelief obvious. "Let's assume that's true."

"Young man," she continued, "judging by your expression, you don't seem to harbor much hostility toward ghouls. These man-eating monsters."

"Is that just my imagination?"

"Your feeling is correct." Hiro didn't deny it. "I don't have much hostility toward ghouls."

"Of course," he added evenly, "that's on the condition that they-or rather, you-don't court death and don't harm the people around me."

Seeing that the One-Eyed Owl showed no intention of attacking, Hiro raised an eyebrow slightly, turned around, and headed toward the mouth of the alley.

Asuna had already gone far ahead.

"Is that so..."

Yoshimura Eto murmured to herself as she watched him leave.

After a moment of thought, she didn't attack. Instead, she used her kagune to form arms and picked up the "food" at her feet.

But as Hiro took a few steps, something flashed through his mind.

Original Asuna.

He stopped and looked back.

"Oh, right," he said casually, glancing at the massive figure lifting the corpse as if preparing to pack it up and take it home. "Why did you want to capture Asuna alive just now?"

"And you even specifically asked this small fry for 'no injuries.'"

He kicked the stiff corpse of the male ghoul with his left foot.

"If she was just food, there was no need to emphasize that detail. Unless you have a habit of live food."

That didn't match the Yoshimura Eto he remembered.

"That girl..." Yoshimura Eto replied indifferently. "Nothing special."

"I just didn't want to hurt Mikan's older sister."

The corner of Hiro's mouth twitched violently.

Mikan?

Yuuki?

Yuuki Mikan?

After Sword Art Online, High School DxD, Tokyo Ghoul, We Never Learn, and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU-

You're throwing in To Love Ru too?

Are you kidding me?

And judging by the homeroom teacher's surname-Kyoudo-there might even be Guilty Crown mixed in.

And my mom is a young, busty, blonde housewife. Her maiden name is Takasu. Her name is Yasuko.

That probably means there's another work blended in as well.

"If you want to find me," Yoshimura Eto said lightly, "go to the Anteiku coffee shop in the 20th ward of Tokyo."

"Look for the manager. We can have a nice chat about various ghoul-related topics~~"

The coffee shop in the 20th ward.

Looking for your dad, huh.

"I understand," Hiro replied. "If I have time, I'll visit with Asuna, Yoshimura."

He waved his hand helplessly and continued walking, completely ignoring Yoshimura Eto's reaction.

Yoshimura?

Does he know me?

Did he recognize me?

No. No. Let's not think about when we might've met.

I was wearing a mask.

There's no way he identified me just by my eyes and body shape.

The pupils of Yoshimura Eto-her entire body still enveloped in ukaku-suddenly contracted.

Suspicion and unease surged through her chest.

Her kagune arms unconsciously tightened.

Clatter~

The sound of something hitting the ground snapped her back to reality.

"Ah~ In this state, I really don't have the appetite to swallow."

She looked down at the unrecognizable mess at her feet.

After a glance at the ghoul corpse in the distance, she tossed the mangled remains aside, picked up the yellow-haired ghoul's body in a few quick steps, and vanished into the secluded alley.

-

"Yes, yes, yes, I have another classmate..."

When Hiro caught up to Asuna, he heard those words and immediately bent down beside her.

"Escaped together," he added.

??!!

Asuna froze, then suddenly turned around.

Seeing Hiro standing there unharmed, her eyes reddened instantly, tears threatening to spill.

"H-Hello? Hello?" she said hurriedly into the phone. "Did your classmate escape? What happened just now? Was that your classmate's voice? Hello-hello..."

Seeing the mix of shock and relief on her face, Hiro raised his right index finger to his lips in a shushing gesture and pointed at the still-ringing phone in her hand.

"Ah-yes," Asuna said after a slight sob, "that was my classmate. He's fine now."

"He doesn't seem to be injured."

Her voice trembled slightly as she answered the CCG personnel on the other end of the call.
