Chapter 37 - CHAPTER 37: TAKEN ON MY WATCH

(Ethan's POV)

I was at my desk, papers spread in an almost obsessive pattern, but my mind wasn't on them. Mira had called thirty minutes ago. She insisted on coming to Wolfe Castle—my office—because she couldn't stand the thought of me being alone, overwhelmed.

I'd tried to talk her out of it, reminding her of the risks, the traffic, and the city chaos. My words had barely stuck. "I'll be there. I want to be with you," she had said, stubborn and unwavering.

And I'd felt my chest tighten at her insistence. Her voice had that stubborn edge I knew too well—the same edge that had gotten her into trouble more than once. And somewhere deep in me, that stubbornness terrified me. She shouldn't be out there. Not like this. I tracked her phone as she left her home. The GPS pinged steadily at first, reassuringly. She was on the move, heading toward the office. My hands clenched around my pen: I can see where she is. She's safe. She's fine.
