Chapter 56 - Rias: I Really Can't Do Anything With You..

Bang~

"Yo, Rias, I came to see you!"

Pushing open the door to the Occult Research Club, Hiro swept his gaze across the room but didn't see the crimson-haired girl he was looking for.

Asia and Koneko weren't there either.

In the spacious clubroom, only Akeno sat on the sofa, her long hair tied into a single ponytail, quietly flipping through a stack of documents.

"Akeno, where's Rias?"

"Ara~ the moment you walk in, you're already worried about Rias's whereabouts. Am I really that unworthy of Hiro-kun's attention? How heartbreaking for poor Akeno~"

As she spoke, Akeno set the papers aside, dabbed at the corners of her eyes where no tears existed, and put on an exaggeratedly sorrowful expression.

"Stop messing around. I'm here for something serious."

Hiro sat down on the sofa opposite her, glanced at the documents, and saw that they were all request forms for devils to handle errands.

"I just came from the student council. President Sona asked me to pass something on to Rias. It should be important."

"Sona's?"

A trace of surprise flashed across Akeno's face.

"I see. If it's from Sona, then it must be serious. Rias is over there. Just lift the curtain."

Following the direction Akeno pointed, Hiro noticed a curtain behind which the shadow of a graceful figure could be seen.

Unfortunately, his timing wasn't great.

Just as he looked over, Rias-wearing Kuoh Academy's female uniform-pulled the curtain aside from within, wiping the lingering water droplets from her hair as she stepped out.

"Akeno, what kind of mischief are you plotting now?" Rias glared at her, irritation clear as Akeno's face filled with regret.

"It's such a shame that Hiro-kun didn't get to see Rias's wonderful body, don't you think, Hiro-kun?"

Akeno rested her cheek against her hand, eyes narrowed into crescents as she smiled at him.

"Yeah. It's quite a pity."

Hiro glanced at Akeno, who was clearly enjoying herself, his lips twitching as he answered casually.

"Is that so... a pity..."

Rias's fair cheeks flushed slightly.

She placed the towel aside and raised a hand toward the buttons of her shirt.

"Since Hiro wants to see it, then... I really can't do anything with you. Wait a few seconds."

Huh?

Seeing Rias's movement, Hiro raised an eyebrow.

"Wait, Rias. Let me finish my business first."

"Business? Oh~ oh~ the thing Sona asked you to tell me."

Only then did Rias realize she'd misunderstood.

Suppressing her embarrassment, she slowly lowered the hand that had already undone the first button and calmly returned to her seat.

"Earlier, while wandering around the city, I ran into Sona's servant, Momo Hanakai. She was fighting a spider-type youkai. I casually saved her when she was about to be killed and brought her back to the student council room. When I left, Sona asked me to tell you this: tomorrow afternoon at three, two Holy Sword users from the Church will come to visit."

"The Church? And Holy Sword users?"

Rias frowned slightly, unease slipping into her voice despite the faint blush still on her face.

"They haven't appeared in this city for a long time. For them to suddenly visit... I have a bad feeling about it."

"Indeed," Akeno said softly, her expression turning serious as well. "Ever since Rias and I came here, we haven't encountered any proper Church personnel, let alone Holy Sword users."

Ever since you arrived?

Hiro muttered inwardly.

It was probably because they'd been scared off by Sirzechs. Or maybe Serafall too.

Those two Maou sisters living in Saitama Prefecture weren't exactly subtle.

As for the truth, it would likely only become clear by asking the possible parties involved.

"Hiro, what do you think?" Rias asked after a moment, looking at him.

"I look with my eyes."

Rias: ...

Akeno: ...

Ignoring the helpless and amused gazes directed at him, Hiro stood up and brushed off his pants.

"Anyway, guessing won't help. Just meet them tomorrow afternoon and talk. Everything will be clear then. Thinking too much now just adds unnecessary stress."

As he reached the door, he paused and turned back as if recalling something.

"Oh, right. This morning, Asia and I ran into a few fallen angels at that dilapidated church. I don't know if Asia told you."

"Fallen angels?!" ×2

Rias and Akeno's shocked expressions answered him more clearly than words.

"I already killed them. Didn't get any useful information. That's all."

Under their stunned and questioning gazes, Hiro shrugged, explained casually, then turned and left the clubroom.

-

"The appearance of fallen angels, the visit of Holy Sword users, and us devils... all three factions are gathering. Rias..."

"You don't need to say it. I know this isn't simple."

Rias waved her hand, cutting off her queen's analysis as her expression grew increasingly uneasy.

"If someone deliberately arranged this situation, then even if their goal isn't clear yet, it's likely already beyond our control. I just hope those two Holy Sword users don't bring bad news tomorrow."

Even as she said that, Rias knew how unlikely that hope was.

Church personnel approaching the Maou's sister already carried far too many implications.

"Should we inform Sirzechs-sama?" Akeno asked.

"...Not yet."

Rias was silent for a few seconds.

"I don't want to rely on my family or my brother's power unless it's the last resort."

In the end, she still refused Akeno's suggestion.

"Then... should we communicate with Hiro-kun in advance?" Akeno continued softly. "Of course, I mean using that... method~"

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

Though her tone remained teasing, her expression was unusually serious.

"Hiro-kun isn't your servant yet. He just came from the student council. From my perspective, it's hard to imagine Sona letting such an excellent-almost perfect-potential servant slip away. Rias, if you don't hurry, Sona might beat you to it. After all, her engagement hasn't been annulled yet."

"I know that without you reminding me!"

Rias shot her an annoyed glare, helplessness creeping into her expression.

What can I do?

He's too strong. And he doesn't want to become my servant.

I can't force him.

And even if he agreed... there's no guarantee I could successfully reincarnate him, even with a mutated Evil Piece.
