Chapter 24 - A Unique Evolution Path: The Birth of a Monster Mom — Part 3.

[Due to your Chimera Trait and requests this skill manifested as part of your Suzerain Spider's Reproductive Ability. It allows you to gestate multiple species at once, each with fully customized traits.]

Maddy let out the longest breath of her life.

"Oh, thank the heavens. A magical side car for babies. Lucy, you are a literal lifesaver. I can keep the Princess' body perfect and still have my little army of siblings for Sephiran."

She stood up, her mind already racing with combinations.

"Maybe a spider but with Ogre limbs? Or a lightning fast worm with sword legs?"

[Response: Your enthusiasm is noted, Maddy. However, a Mother must be wise. If you wish to begin gestation, you must find a location where the mana density is low. High mana areas like this nursery are prone to spontaneous monster spawns. An interruption during the manifestation of the Mobile Womb could be... messy.]

Maddy paused, her smile faltering.

"A safe place? In this hole? Lucy, every corner of this cave feels like it's trying to grow a new set of teeth to bite me with."

[Response: There is one location nearby with an abnormally low mana count. The former residence of the Ogre clan.]

"Back there? With the bloodstains and the bad memories? No way. I want to move forward, not backward."

[Response: It is the only area within reach where the mana won't interfere with your nursery. Those Ogres were more intelligent than you give them credit for; they purposefully settled in a 'dead zone' to prevent wild monsters from spawning in their sleep. Beyond this cave, the mana only thickens as you approach the surface.]

"Ugh, fine. I guess those brutes had one good idea…"

Maddy sighed, looking down at her tired legs.

"But Lucy... I can barely stand. Walking all the way back there in these heels and this dress? I'll collapse before I reach the tunnel."

[Response: Then stop walking. Use your original form.]

"The worm? I can... I can go back? I thought I was stuck like this!"

[Response: I believe I mentioned this during your initial integration, Maddy. You were perhaps a bit... distracted by your new chest. You now possess two base forms. You can shift between the Chimera Worm and the Human Vessel at will.]

Maddy responded, blushing.

"I was not—okay, maybe I was a little distracted. But wait! Reverting? Really?"

She closed her eyes, imagining the simple, grounding weight of her beige, segmented body.

Poof!

In a swirl of soft light, the tall, elegant Princess vanished. In her place sat the thick, beige Chimera Worm. Maddy let out a long, vibrating hum of pure relief.

"Ohhh, that's the stuff. I missed the dirt. I miss being close to the ground. It's so... comfortable!"

She began to roll in the dust, bathing her segments in the cool earth, smelling the rich minerals of the cave floor. Sephiran, sitting nearby, let out a delighted squeal and began to roll alongside her, mimicking her movements with chubby, uncoordinated limbs.

"Wait! Sephiran!"

Maddy stopped, her worm head snapping up.

"I can't exactly hold you with no arms, and I'm going to be traveling through the rock. I can't leave you behind!"

The scene shifted. Within the dark, solid earth, a massive force was moving with incredible speed. Maddy was 'swimming' through the soil and stone as if it were water, her powerful segments pushing her forward. Inside her mouth, Sephiran was nestled safely in a specialized cheek pouch she had manifested. Far from being scared, the baby was giggling, his tiny hands pressing against the soft, warm walls of her mouth, fascinated by the muffled sounds of Maddy's heartbeat.

"Mmmph mmm-nmm!" (Bear with it, little guy!)"

Maddy muffled through her closed jaw.

"Mmm-mmm nerr! (We're almost there!)"

They burst through the wall of the Ogre's main chamber a few minutes later. Maddy shifted back into her human form with a graceful shimmer, catching Sephiran as he tumbled out.

The place was surprisingly intact. Beyond the carnage she had left behind, the Ogres had lived with a strange sense of order. There were actual chairs carved from stone, a massive bed of furs, and several tents. To the side, the 'Princess's Cage' sat empty, its bars twisted. Beyond that, a series of side- ooms filled with glowing minerals—the ones she'd crashed through during her fight sparkled like a private treasure vault.

"It's actually... not bad."

Maddy admitted, walking toward the large bed of furs.

"It's better than the mud."

But as she took a step toward the center of the room, the world tilted. The adrenaline that had carried her through the Ogre massacre and the Spider hive finally evaporated. Her vision swam with colorful blotches, and her knees buckled.

She caught herself on the edge of the Ogre's bed. Sephiran crawled onto the furs, patting her cheek with worry.

[Warning: Physical and Mental Exhaustion Detected.]

"I'm fine, Lucy. I just... I have to start the first birth. I have to see them..."

[Response: Maddy, look at yourself. You are shaking. Do you want your first child's first memory of their mother to be her face planting into the dirt from exhaustion? A Chimera Mother must be a pillar of strength, not a wilted leaf. Rest. The 'Mobile Womb' requires a steady heart.]

Maddy felt her eyelids growing heavier than lead. She pulled Sephiran into her lap, sinking into the soft, thick furs of the Ogre King's bed.

"Fine... you win, Lucy. You're acting more like a… friend than a computer now. I like it... you sound... real. Like a human friend."

[Response: Rest well, Maddy. I will keep watch.]

As Maddy drifted into the first dreamless sleep she had enjoyed in years, she felt the warm pulse of her new body and the steady breathing of the boy beside her. She wasn't a victim anymore. She wasn't a 'failure.' She was a Mother, and tomorrow, her family would grow.
