Chapter 5 - A Devil's Rage

"He's coming! What are you waiting for? Hold him back."

The calm sound of footsteps echoed across the chaotic hall.

The walls appeared to be recently dyed red, blood still dripping to the ground. Body organs and all were freely lying around in a bloody mess.

A figure with messy red hair calmly walked through the mess with a nonchalant expression. Eyes fixed on the couple of figures blocking the exit.

"You guys don't learn, huh?"

Red said... rather, the devil possessing his body said, wiping a bit of blood from his chin.

The greatsword materialised from thin air, and without much effort, he swung it down, releasing a blast of red energy that sliced off the Walkers blocking the exit.

"Those damn gods... to think... to think that they could just hand over my sword to a pesky human."

"Heh. This body is mine now."

Meanwhile, Red sat within the dark space of his consciousness, eyes filled with dread.

"Hey! This is my body. You can't just take control of my body!"

"Hehe. How do you puny humans say it? Finders, keepers, huh?"

"Just sit back like a good boy and watch me tear this place apart. Let them feel the rage of a devil."

Running forward, he spun the greatsword effortlessly. The remaining set of Walkers didn't stand a chance. They were cut apart in an instant, their blood splashing against the walls.

"This is just the beginning. I'm goin–"

Red's body stopped in its tracks, eyes wide as his left hand slowly moved against the devil's will and latched around his neck.

"Give me my damn body!" Red yelled.

"Huh? Seems you've got quite a strong head." The devil muttered casually, removing the hand from the neck and then continuing forward.

They soon passed through a flight of stairs, which led them to a dark hall lined with doors on both sides.

The guards stationed didn't have the time to raise an alarm before they erupted into pieces of flesh, their blood raining down on the doors.

Red watched with a helpless gaze. How the devil controlling his body tore through each door and killed whoever was inside in one go.

Right now, he was a walking calamity. Worse, he didn't know if he was going to get his body back.

They finally appeared before the last door at the end of the hall.

The devil tore through the enchanted reinforced steel doors like cotton, eyes landing on the lady kneeling weakly on the ground.

Just as he walked inside, she raised her face at the same time, causing Red to involuntarily pause in his tracks.

"Maya? A name escaped his lips in confusion."

"Len? Is... that you... Len? Thank goodness, I thought... I thought you were dead." She muttered weakly, tears dripping down her face.

For some reason, Red's body was unable to move. The devil tried but failed to even move a single finger.

Meanwhile, Red let out a confused look.

"Len? Is that my name in this world?" He muttered with a strange glint in his eyes.

"And why does it feel like I know her... like someone close to me. My body is telling me to protect her no matter the cost."

"Heh. You're truly a strange one boy. I'll help you just this once, at least, as a reward for taking over your body."

The devil's voice echoed within the dark space.

"How about that, huh? You taking control means your death right now. Or do you think you can defeat these damn creatures on your own?"

"Now she's negotiating." Red muttered. Though she sounded like she was still in control of the whole situation, Red could tell there was a slight change in her tone.

He wasn't going to let this chance go away. Having finally gained a semblance of control of his body, he would be damned if he gave it away.

"Len," the lady's voice, cut through their mental discussion as she struggled to stand, causing Red to glance at her.

Then he saw it. The red patch in her dress, her pale face and shivering lean body.

"Seven hells! What happened to you?" He rushed towards her, catching her before she fell to the ground.

"Dammit! She's lost a lot of blood."

"What do I do now? Should I... should I accept the deal?" He muttered, eyes filled with conflict. Even now, he was still fighting desperately to hold the damn devil or whatever it was back from taking control over his body again.

"You can sense them, right? The group waiting outside the door. I wonder how you're going to pass through them without my powers." The devil's voice echoed softly in his head.

"How am I supposed to trust you? What's to stop you from ripping her head off once you gain control?" Red fired back, veins popping at the side of his head.

"Hmphhh! What do you think of me? I don't easily go back on my word!" The devil voiced out with a snort.

Pondering for some minutes, Red let out a sigh.

"Fine! Get us out of here." He muttered with a frown.

"I really need to assimilate with the memories," he muttered, feeling a bit bothered by his strange behaviour.

This wasn't quite him.

With that, he slowly allowed the devil to take control once again.

The devil easily broke the chains holding Maya and then carefully carried her in one swoop and placed her on his back.

"Hang on tight. Things are about to get nasty."

During their on and off bout, the hall had been surrounded by a large group of Walkers waiting for them to come out.

Without much talk, Red blasted through the door, sword already in hand as he struck down with enough force to clear a path.

"Dammit! They're getting away. Stop them!" One of the Walkers yelled.

This one was a bit different from the rest. His frame hovered over the others, and his skin was a shade of darker blue with two red cores pulsating across his exposed chest.

"We just need to hold them back until the Lord gets back." He announced charging forward.

"This is gonna be a tough one."The devil muttered as Red charged forward.

Both clashed at the centre, causing a wave of energy to erupt, pushing back the rest away.

The Walker's fist glowed with a strange blue light as he struck down with force.

The devil retaliated by swinging his fist.

Bammmm!

"What... I'm getting pushed back. The Walker thought, his feet sliding through the ground before slamming his feet down to stop himself.

"I'm so going to paint the walls with your entrails after I'm done with you!"

Red charged forward, eyes glowing crimson as he swung the sword down. The skin around the Walker's arms thickened, forming a large shield that blocked the incoming strike.

The force sent him staggering backwards, though, with his shield breaking into bits.

The devil didn't give him much time as he charged forward once again, releasing countless red energy slashes before striking him.

Boooom!

A body broke through the walls and into a bright hallway.

"Dammit!"

"He's strong!" The Walker groaned, blood leaking from a cut beneath his ear. "How can that little human body contain such strength?"

"I've already formed my second core. Not to add to the fact that we are naturally stronger than humans in terms of physique!"

Spitting out a blob of blood, he was about charging forward only to see a large sword spinning towards him in a deadly arc.

"Arghhhhh!"

Too slow to create a shield, he decided to block the attack with his bare hands.

A huge mistake...

The sword sliced through his hands without much resistance, carving a deep gash on his chest.

"You think your puny body can block my blade. You have no idea what that sword is capable of."

Stretching forth his hands, the sword rumbled before dislodging from the Walker's chest and flying back into the possessed Red's hand.

"I promised to paint the walls with your entrails, right?" The devil said calmly, taking a step forward.

"I'd better hurry up then."

...

Two men stood before a shimmering veil with sharp gazes.

The younger one, an orange-haired youth with molten golden eyes, was a man with great influence. A man revered and feared by all at the same time.

He was Rowan. One of the pillars of humanity.

The older man beside him had a shock of pure white hair with deep dark eyes, which glowed with wrath.

Strapped on his back was a dark, long terrifying sword.

He was Von Everhart. The Sky General. Another major pillar of humanity.

"To think they had the guts to abduct my granddaughter." His voice was low, yet filled with unbridled wrath.

"Let's move," Rowan said, staring at the older man with a strange glint. He walked forward and entered the glowing veil without much resistance. His body sank through and appeared before a desert land.

Soon after, the white-haired man appeared before him, eyes scanning the environment before staring forward.

Both men had their gaze fixed ahead, their eyes easily staring through thousands of meters.

Both gazes were fixed on the domineering castle made from bones of humans and other creatures alike.

Their supposed destination.

"I'll hold back the brute. You get them out of here." The white-haired man said before disappearing from his spot.
