Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Spirit of the Wind

Two days passed in the blink of an eye. Gu Xiong Mu no longer led the clansmen back to the forest where the conflict had occurred, instead cautiously exploring new hunting grounds.

As expected, Wu Tian's Wind Listening skill reached full mastery during the hunt.

Ding! System Notification:Your skill Wind Listening has reached full mastery and can awaken into a talent. Please choose one of the following options:

Option One: Child of the WindYou are favored by the wind. Your affinity with wind spirits increases, allowing you to initially borrow the power of wind.

Option Two: Spirit of the WindThe wind becomes your eyes and ears. You can obtain more information through the wind, allowing you to foresee fortune and calamity.

This time, there were only two choices—but both filled Wu Tian with immense excitement.

Child of the Wind instantly made him think of demon spirits. If he chose this talent and continued to upgrade it, becoming a true demon—one who commanded the power of wind—was almost guaranteed.

Yet the second option, Spirit of the Wind, was equally terrifying.

If upgraded further, it might evolve into Foreseeing Fortune and Avoiding Disaster—a legendary ability possessed by great demons and auspicious beasts in myths. It was precisely such a talent that allowed them to survive their weak beginnings and grow powerful.

One option meant wielding the power of wind. The other meant evading calamity.

To be honest, Wu Tian wanted both. He was unwilling to give up either.

But reality was cruel—he could only choose one.

In the end, he made the painful decision and chose Spirit of the Wind.

If Spirit of the Wind truly evolved into Foreseeing Fortune and Avoiding Disaster, there was a reason mythical beasts were revered as auspicious and spared even by cultivators.

On the other hand, demon spirits that breathed clouds and controlled water or fire were often slain without hesitation by demon-slaying immortals.

After weighing everything, Wu Tian chose Spirit of the Wind.

The moment the selection was made, he felt an immediate change.

A cool current surged from within his body, finally gathering at the center of his brow—like a stream washing over his spiritual seal.

Something wondrous happened.

When Wu Tian looked at the world again, it was as if a thin veil had been lifted from his vision. Everything became clearer, more vivid.

When the wind stirred between heaven and earth, he could sense the information carried within it.

Yes—sense.

Not by listening with his ears, but through an indescribable, mystical perception.

Where the wind passed, he could feel the presence of venomous insects and giant serpents, foxes and squirrels. He could even "see" farther by following the flow of the wind.

"So this is the Spirit of the Wind…"

Joy surged through Wu Tian.

At that moment, the wind became his eyes. The wind became his ears.

Through it, he could see farther, hear farther, and detect dangers born at great distances.

"Woof! Woof! Woof!"

Wu Tian suddenly barked loudly, first howling toward Yin Shuang, then roaring at Gu Xiong Mu.

The hunting team had spent the entire morning with little success. Combined with several days of meager harvests, their tempers were already frayed.

Now, as they rested, Wu Tian suddenly began barking—especially when Yin Shuang and the other white dogs showed no reaction. The hunters grew irritated.

"Bai Long'er, what are you barking for?"

"Keep it up and I'll skin you!"

"Lie down already!"

But Yin Shuang quickly understood Wu Tian's calls and barked back twice. Wu Tian responded with another roar.

Gu Xiong Mu soon approached and asked Yin Shuang,"What is it, Yin Shuang? Did Bai Long'er discover something?"

Having worked together for many years, the two shared deep mutual understanding. Yin Shuang barked once, and Gu Xiong Mu's eyes lit up.

"All of you—follow Bai Long'er!"

Seeing that Gu Xiong Mu understood, Wu Tian didn't hesitate. His body flashed like a streak of white light as he darted deep into the forest.

He was no longer the same as before.

With Hunting and Wind Listening both at full mastery, his physique rivaled that of adult white dogs, and his hunting ability was matched only by Yin Shuang.

Combined with the Agility and Spirit of the Wind talents, his speed surpassed every adult white dog. When he went all out, even Yin Shuang struggled to keep up.

Wu Tian sprinted through the forest, the wind howling past him. His fur lay smoothly against his back, carried by the airflow—an entirely new sensation.

The forest felt like home.

He could even close his eyes while running. Fallen branches, hidden venomous snakes—nothing could escape the wind, and thus nothing could escape him.

The faster he ran, the more exhilarated he felt.

What had once been an extremely dangerous wilderness had now become a hunting ground where he could roam freely.

From far away, he detected a herd of Dulong Cattle.

There were more than twenty of them.

Dulong cattle lived near the Dulong River. They were massive beasts with thick bones and uniformly short black fur like polished silk. Their lower legs were white, as if stepping on snow.

Their horns were thick and sturdy, gradually tapering upward, with blunt yet sharp tips—wild and imposing.

With over twenty gathered together, even tigers and bears would hesitate to approach. Once enraged, they were terrifying.

Through the wind, Wu Tian detected the herd from afar.

If this group of Dulong cattle could be captured, the village would be able to survive the entire winter in peace.

More importantly, these cattle often followed rivers—meaning there was likely a stream nearby, perhaps a tributary of the distant Dulong River winding into the forest.

Where there was water, there was life.

There might even be fish and shrimp—an enormous boon for the village.

Wu Tian deliberately controlled his speed, ensuring Yin Shuang and the other white dogs didn't lose his trail.

"Where exactly is Bai Long'er taking us?"

"We've already run this far—and so fast. Isn't he afraid of alerting other fierce beasts?"

"Since when did Bai Long'er become this fast?"

The clansmen were confused and astonished. But they soon realized that the path Wu Tian chose was exceptionally safe.

Aside from a few venomous insects and harmless wild animals, they encountered no dangerous beasts at all.

Gu Xiong Mu's eyes grew brighter by the second.

The clan chief had once said Bai Long'er had the potential to become a Dog King—but how long had it been? To already possess such abilities, he was no weaker than Yin Shuang.

At first, some feared Wu Tian might lead them into the lair of some monstrous beast.

But as time passed, astonishment replaced all doubt.

Wu Tian's route was not a straight line. Instead, it curved and weaved, skillfully avoiding danger. The entire journey was remarkably safe.

After running for over half an hour, Wu Tian finally stopped.

He prevented the other white dogs from approaching further and hid within the trees, peering toward the distance.

Gu Xiong Mu and the others soon arrived.

When they saw the distant cattle herd, joy surged through them—but soon, every gaze turned toward Wu Tian.

Everyone understood what this meant.

To detect prey from such a distance—and carve out a safe path through the forest—this was no mere Dog King candidate.

This was a Divine Dog.

Such divine dogs had appeared in the village's past. The elders spoke of them in stories—legends that many believed were nothing but myths.

Yet now—

The legend stood before them in flesh and blood.

Some even dropped to the ground, prostrating themselves before Wu Tian.
