Chapter 1 - V1CH1- A Bland Start?

'You know you'd expect the beginning of a novel or really any story to tell you a miraculous start about how the great main character got reincarnated with, as the Chinese say, 'a golden finger.' I'd love to say I'm the main character, but no I'm just a normal ordinary guy who fell asleep at the library trying to cram for a College Chemistry exam. Next thing I knew I was butt booty naked in the middle of the woods. I have to say… not the greatest experience… at least let me have my clothes for God's sake! Oh well… then there was the arduous process of trying to figure out how to survive… and you know surviving in the wild is nothing like those TV shows or what the anime's, manhwa, or even webnovels portray. It's absolutely terrifying! Like imagine ending up somewhere you had no idea about, the fauna, animals, and even sky looks completely different than what your used to… on top of that you have no wilderness survival skills other than those videos from that one survival guy with the glasses and the little kid and boom you get a one way ticket to speed running death. Ok, ok it wasn't that bad, truthfully wherever I landed doesn't seem to be an extreme danger zone. How can I tell? Well there's this thing called the Genesis System that opened when I was trying the usual reincarnator nonsense of shouting, 'open sesame', 'open system', and of course 'status.' Like usual or rather like any novel I've seen, status was the one that did the trick… Now you might be wondering why I'm not particularly excited about having a system… well this sentence that popped up when I opened the system is exactly why…'

[Detected foreign intrusion… calculating… Reincarnation likely. Detected Foreign power… Adventurer's Guide… calculating potential for harm… calculated possibility: 0.001%. Intrusion allowed…. Detecting source… non-magical world #.....091, Earth… calculating… calculating… determined that the intruder was unwillingly sent from the home world… calculating the cost to return to the world of origin… distance too great… nigh-omniversal distance… energy requirement too high… compensation… naturalizing human… name detected: Nico. Naturalizing foreign systems. Integrating with the world system, Genesis System.]

[New human #8,905,678,453 registered to the Akashic Records. Genesis System Opened. Generic System Language Granted: Common Sapient.]

[Compensation awarded. Accept? Y/N]

'Yes…'

[Compensation: Information about Theia (the world you are currently in).

Theia, the world of magic, aura, and the beyond. Anything is possible in theia, gods can die, and news can arise. Just as there are Gods there are also a multitude of sapient and generally peaceful races as well as a myriad of hostile ones. User: Nico, has been reincarnated into Theia against their own will. The Akashic Record's compensation is a simple warning… Survive. If user Nico manages to survive, the Akashic Record may grant a special reward. In other words, you, at current, are not worthy of the system's attention. As unfortunate as your circumstance is, there is no free lunch in the world. Nor is there a great being who will offer you benevolence. Your prior world seems to have glorified this. It is not what you imagine. You are not unique, in the last 10 years alone you are reincarnator number 15,671 and of those only 1 is still alive (You). So survive invader, show the system your uniqueness and perhaps you may be granted something greater.

Clarifications: Please note, after reviewing your world's information about systems, the Akashic Records and Genesis System have issued a statement- Both Systems are things that all sapient races can access and not unique to one user.

Regards.

Compensation complete.]

'Fast forward five days of wiping my ass with leaves and shitting in holes I dug by hand and boom… nothing… not even a lick of surprise. The only good thing is that foreign system that's attached to me… it's called the Adventurer's Guide. Nothing crazy, it just logs monster kills and shows me what plants are edible and poisonous. Which is how I've stayed alive these last few days… I'm still slightly grateful that I got thrown somewhere relatively safe, but I know it's all to cope. No fire, bugs crawling around my skin, I smell nasty, I feel gross, only upside is that I've noticed how much more I have to work with in this life. If I had my old body I'd have died trying to climb up a tree to sleep in. Like seriously what is this body made of? I even look better when I'm this nasty. Golden eyes, black hair, sharp jawline, and… yeah I wasn't that size last I remember… actually it's more of a pain now, like how do I hide this? What if something bites it… oh well pray for the best. Still I really hope I don't run into anything I can't deal with…'

'Man it's so boring and so damn hot… damn flees!... There's nothing else to do, might as well take a quick peek at 'that'.'

'Man this is so cool, yet such a terrible scenario. Though I have to admit I still can't get over how I became 5 years younger… Not to mention how-'

Nico's eyes snapped up as the crunch of a leaf rang out, then a muffled thud landed. Nico's eyes narrowed as a tall figure covered in steel armor came into view, at the being's sides were a large mace and a tall tower shield.

'What the hell… how did I run into the final boss already?!? I swear I didn't raise a death flag! Damn you Akashic Records!'

The being paused for a moment before instantly locking onto Nico's location sending a chill down his spine.

Nico unknowingly muttered, "Please don't eat me…"

Which to his surprise instead of the being going into a combat ready stance, the being dropped their shield and mace and then took off their helmet, revealing a well shaped face, with long dark purple, almost black hair and light pink eyes.

'Damn she's tall, what do they feed the people of this world?'

The armored lady's slightly deep, yet husky voice rang out and she said, "Get down from there! I mean you no harm."

She then proceeded to kick her mace and shield forward as a gesture. Nico's eyes widened a bit and he bit his lip before hugging the tree and slowly climbing down before revealing his muddied, slightly scratched, and absolutely naked form, covered only by a leaf that was held in front of him.

Her eyes narrowed and she muttered, "What's a Tier Zero doing out here in the outer rims…?"

Nico pretended not to hear her, but mentally logged it. The woman then did something absolutely unexpected, she basically teleported in Nico's eyes, grabbed his chin, looked into his eyes and then did a quick scan of him.

She then walked back to her shield and mace and said, "What's your name?"

Nico, still a little flabbergasted, slowly shook his head before saying, "Nico… I'm sorry if I smell a bit."

She just waved her hands and said, "It's fine I'm guessing you managed to escape a goblin camp… pretty impressive for a Tier Zero. Come I'll take you back with me. I'm guessing those grubbers didn't leave you with much…" She sighed and then a glint passed in her eyes causing Nico's eyes to narrow a bit and she said, "If it's not too much trouble I'll take care of you for a bit, while you get back on your feet."

Nico then put on his best acting face and said, "What's your name miss? And you know the Goblins they…"

The woman's eyes widened and she interrupted him shaking her head before saying, "It's ok no need to think about that any more. I'm Riona" She then reached down and opened a sack taking out a bar of what seemed to be soap and a pair of clothes that looked way too oversized and a pair of boots that similarly looked way too big for Nico's 5 '11'' proportionate build.

She took the items in her hand and looked around for a bit before pointing at the visible stream saying let's go over there so you can freshen up before we go into town.

Nico thought to himself, 'There's two ways this goes… either the lady poisons me and turns me into some sort of a slave or she's genuinely kind. I'm leaning towards the former… that glint in her eyes… something's up.'

As they were walking with Riona in the front and Nico trailing behind her they came across the stream that Nico had been drinking from the past few days. It was visibly clear, with the stones at the bottom beautifully rounded, while the water softly flowed downwards. Riona then motioned for him to do his business and placed the clothes and the bar of soap on the ground while facing away from the stream. Nico quickly hopped into the water and crouched down into the cold water and took the soap and began scrubbing away at the scratches, mud, and grim that had built up after days. All the while in his mind Nico began calculating…

'If this is an adventurer's world I'm guessing that the silver badge on her chestplate with the stars is her adventurer's ID. Second she said something about Tiers… which should be this world's power system… Third, she said we're on the outer rims, which either means we're far out from civilization or on the edge of approaching it. That's all fine and dandy, the real problem is I know for a fact that she's way out of my league in terms of power. That glint in her eyes and her 'kindness' tell me something's up… It's not like I have a choice at this point. The only factor that's calming that edge is that she's alone, not in a group, but that also means she's strong enough to roam around by herself… Not the ideal situation… If push comes to shove and she tries to turn me into a slave… then I guess I'll try to seduce her and if that doesn't work then I act as a servant and help her with the rudimentary stuff for a while and then poison her. Worst case she sells me off and I get branded… well I doubt I could run from her seeing that speed that she showed at the beginning. Plus she noticed me right away even when I stopped breathing and didn't move in the tree line. All in all not a great situation.'

Finally as Nico wrapped up his thoughts he came out clean and fresh, taking a moment to look down at his reflection. Short black hair, hazlet nut golden eyes, seemingly well built body with a marvelous six pack and everything else just seemed to fit in place. If Nico had to put words to it, it would be well sculpted and notably handsome, yet nothing too unbelievable. What he didn't notice was that Riona at some point had turned around and was staring at him before turning around before he could see that she had taken a glance. Nico then put on the oversized clothes that seemed meant for the 6'6" monster of a woman standing not so far away. Rolling up all the sleeves and slipping on the boots that actually fit better than they looked they would, Nico now looked like a normal medieval town's citizen.

Riona then looked up once Nico took a few steps toward her and she then said, "Finally ready princess? Though I have to say, now that you're all cleaned up, aren't you a work of art. Just how high is your Charisma Stat? Three or hell even four? As a tier zero that's just absurd. I get why those goblins took you."

Nico internally noted that before putting on an innocent face and sheepishly rubbing the back of his face saying, "O-oh it's not that high, just a three."

'It's better to reveal it, and even better if she decides to keep me for herself instead of turning me into a slave.'

Just as Nico said that a small green creature popped up out of nowhere with a club in hand wearing a small loincloth. Without even batting an eye Riona just casually swung her mace causing the goblin to turn into a puddle of purple blood.

Nico's eyes went wide and he said, "J-just what tier are you Miss Riona?"

'Playing the innocent boy is such a drag, but I know what this kind of woman likes, so I'll play along.'

As if on cue Riona's eyes glinted and her lip turned slightly up before going back to neutral and she said, "Oh I'm just a higher end tier 4."

Nico made a note of that before showing an awe struck face and buttering her up.

Riona said nothing, but it wasn't hard to tell that she liked that sort of talk from the small up turn of her lips. She then did something Nico didn't expect: she hung her shield and mace on her back and yanked him into her arms in a princess carry.

'Maybe I played it a little too thick? I forgot this is probably a medieval society… I don't want to play the wife! Damn it The Women Here Are Even Scarier Than Monsters!'

***Author's Note: Hope you liked CH1, a bit of an info dump + world building… The first 30-40 chapters will still be world building with the first fights and kills coming up. Expect a slow start and slow growth. Also all chapters will be around 2000 words (200 give or take, like this chapter which was 2200…). No there won't be romance early on in fact there won't be any major romance until like volume 3. All in all I hope you enjoy and happy reading (critiques are welcome please leave comments and reviews, I'll sincerely try to adjust as we go)!
