Chapter 3 - The Boy

Kohana and I managed to break away from the group in the woods and began making our way back to my brother. He wouldn't be in the sedan chair. I had a sneaky feeling my friend of mine had already found him by now. A metallic scent filled the air. Must be blood pooling from the deceased recently. I peeked down the trees as I leaped from branch to branch. I looked ahead as something shiny caught my eye. Ahead, just beside a Ming Guan temple, was my brother with my friend, clad in red and silver trinkets. The man in red and silver was about to lift my brother's veil. Before he could, Xie Lian stepped away in quick strides, and sent Rouye towards the man I would approve as his one day partner.the man in red vanished into silver butterflies.

I dropped down from the trees, and stood beside my brother as he pulled off the veil. Kohana stayed out of sight incase of an attack, no doubt we will be facing an attack at some point. I thought back to those men. They are looking for the missing brides for money. It makes me worry for Xie Lian. I waves my left hand over my shoulder to signal Kohana to stay out of sight and to keep an eye out. I noticed my brother was still out of it. I tapped his shoulder to bring him back out of it. He looked to me, then back to the place the friend in red disappeared to. He looked like he was in a dream, silly brother of mine. I heard something, a small thing skitter across the gravel in the temple near us. I looked over my shoulder, and there was a little shadow.

It was for a split moment, but it looked like the shadow from the villahe. The shadow was about the size of a small child. It looked like a young boy.
