Bai Xinyue stared at Huang Shi, feeling the tightening of his grip and his strong, even somewhat possessive gaze, and she finally couldn't control herself and started to blush, her face looking like a red tomato.
Despite her heart beating faster and faster, starting to make her feel like she was having some sort of heart disease, she kept her eyes on his face, staring into his deep golden eyes.
This is seriously embarrassing...
After a few moments of thought, Bai Xinyue broke free from his grasp, her eyes never leaving his gaze, and for a few seconds they just stayed that way—silently looking at each other, awkwardly leaving the food untouched. Once again, it was Bai Xinyue who broke the silence first as she spoke up.
"Let's finish our meal first. I'm hungry."
Huang Shi gave another smile as he once again reached out and squeezed her hand, nodding his head.
"Sure, let's eat, Xinyue."
Once again, another deep red blush covered Bai Xinyue's face, and yet she chose not to say anything and started eating the food together with him. As Huang Shi observed her eating the food—slowly and gracefully, and yet surprisingly quickly—he realized that this girl was a foodie.
Guess that's also something to take note of.
After eating in a comfortable and warm silence for a bit, they finally finished their meal. Huang Shi stood up from his seat and started to clean up the empty plates and dishes.
"I'll clean up here. Why don't you get ready for bed?"
For some reason, he felt like Bai Xinyue was a bit nervous despite her calm demeanor, like she was trying her best to hide something or was currently struggling to make a decision.
I wonder what she's thinking about.
Despite this, Huang Shi chose not to think about it as he started to clean the place up, while Bai Xinyue stared at his back for a few seconds before standing up and going straight for the bath; clearly, she wanted to wash up before going to sleep.
After a bit of time had passed, she was finally finished with her nightly routine and had already disappeared into her room, probably choosing which clothes to wear for the night.
However, for some reason during this entire time, Bai Xinyue had chosen not to speak to him, opting instead to remain silent as she moved with grace, as if she was actively trying to avoid being seen by him.
Although he thought it was a bit strange, he justified her behavior with the thought that she was just being a bit shy and embarrassed around him.
Heh... even queens can feel shy and giddy, huh?
With this thought in mind, he started to stare at their surroundings, marveling at the place they were staying in despite being in the middle of the woods. During their stay in this log cabin, they made two separate rooms for the both of them, with one shared bath, a simple living room, and a kitchen.
How they made something like this in a matter of minutes was all thanks to Bai Xinyue's efforts. This is because, for some reason, her silvery-white spiritual energy could actually shape itself into this log cabin, customizing it with incredible efficiency; in fact, the help that he did was basically adding modern touches to the aesthetics of the house.
However, this also meant that for as long as they stayed in this house, he felt like his every move was being watched, like he was being vetted, which, although it wasn't a good feeling, he could tolerate as long as he and she were able to share the same roof together.
However, I guess she doesn't stare at me in the bath since I don't feel the gaze. I also don't feel it when I'm changing. Guess she knows when it is and is not appropriate to stare... although that still needs some verification.
Of course, despite their apparent close proximity, Huang Shi had never once had any impure thoughts about her, and even if he did, he forcefully purged them out of his mind.
This was because, even though it was normal for girls her age to be married off at this time because of cultural reasons, for him as a person from modern Earth, unless she was above eighteen, she was basically a kid. After soaking in the warm water of the makeshift sauna they had created with the courtesy of his golden flames, he finally finished his own nightly routine and entered his room to change. For some reason, despite the room being empty, the omniscient gaze that was always absent when he was changing seemed to still be there, albeit a lot weaker.
Huh... that's weird. Why do I still feel the goosebumps?
Despite these thoughts, he continued to change into the clothes he would wear for sleep, aiming to slump into his bed and think about today's events.
Aie... we never really got to finish our conversation... we just ate after that.
Although he felt a bit regretful at this, he was still happy because of the massive amount of progress that was made in the relationship between him and Bai Xinyue.
It's fine. There will be more opportunities in the future; I just have to be patient.
Huang Shi gave a slight smile as he inwardly shook his head. Before long, he started to approach his bed, preparing himself for another goodnight's sleep. After all, despite them being quite deep into the greenwood forest, with Bai Xinyue's unique method, they had never been attacked by any spiritual beasts whenever they were inside of the cabin.
However, the moment he was right in the vicinity of his bed, he saw something rustle under the covers and he saw a hint of pale white skin and...
