Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 — Resolving past grudges I

Midday

It had been hours since Qin Feng set off from the cave. So far, he had successfully slipped past three enemy units, gradually working his way out of the encirclement.

At the moment, he was hidden high in a tree, completely concealed by dense branches.

The reason?

The fourth unit he had encountered today.

Unlike the patrols he had avoided the previous night and earlier that day, this group was different. There were roughly five hundred soldiers, and from their formation and equipment alone, it was clear they were elite troops. More importantly, at the centre of the formation were three high-ranking officers—likely generals or deputies—and an unknown individual seated within a guarded sedan.

Even from a distance, it was obvious that this was no ordinary unit.

Naturally, he could have avoided them.

But he chose not to.

Whoever sat inside that sedan was no small figure—possibly even royalty. Capturing or killing such a person would deal a devastating blow to the enemy's campaign.

One might wonder how Qin Feng had detected them from so far away.

The answer lay in the new physique he had purchased from the system shop:

[Innate True Sight (3,500 SP): Grants superhuman perception and insight. Enables detection of lies and micro-movements, extreme long-distance vision, night vision, and enhanced overall perception.]

After nearly being discovered by the first patrol he encountered—forcing him remain in place for over an hour, seriously delaying him—Qin Feng realised he needed a proper reconnaissance ability. Among the available options, Innate True Sight was the best he could afford. There were cheaper alternatives, but none suited his needs.

His status now read:

[DIVINE CHECK-IN SYSTEM]

[Host]: Qin Feng

[Shop Points (SP)]: 800

[Special Physiques]:

— Innate Dragon Elephant Physique

— Innate True Sight (NEW)

[Skills]:

Blademanship (Elite), Horsemanship (Master)

[Inventory]: Restoration Pills (x9),

Fasting Pills (x1,000),

Marrow Cleansing Pills (x100)

...

Spending 3,500 SP had been painful.

But after experiencing True Sight, he had no regrets.

The "extreme long-distance vision" described by the system was better described as far-sight. It wasn't just that he could zoom in on distant targets as he had thought—no, it was more than that.

As long as he focused on a direction, anything within the range of one kilometre could be viewed from any angle. Meaning, even with his view obstructed by trees—or even when blind folded—he could still see. He could literally get a bird's-eye view of anything in the direction he's facing, if he so pleases.

Thanks to this, he had been able to map enemy patrols and move freely without detection.

He refocused as the unit entered his hearing range.

"…Once we capture that little upstart, the Commander will finally secure his position," one general—based on his armor and bearing—said.

"When that happens, we can advance without waiting for reinforcements," another added.

The third general hesitated. "But is it truly wise to attack with only one hundred and fifty thousand troops? Their fortress is known to house at least that many battle-ready soldiers—and they'll be fighting from within their walls."

The first general scoffed. "One hundred and fifty thousand? Nonsense. They barely have thirty thousand now. Our insider confirmed that a hundred thousand troops were redeployed elsewhere."

"And with the defeat of that terrifying God of War and his twenty thousand men," the second general added, his voice steady, "they won't be able to muster more than thirty thousand—fifty thousand at most. What's there to fear?"

The first general snorted.

"If not for those detestable old men constantly testing the Commander's patience, we would already be feasting inside that fortress."

By then, the unit had nearly passed beneath Qin Feng's tree.

Then he heard a voice that made his blood run cold.

"Those detestable father and son," the voice roared from within the sedan. "The father blinded my eye and killed my predecessor. The son survived my ambush and evaded capture for so long—making this Commander look incompetent."

"When I get my hands on him, I'll tear out his innards and feed them to my dogs."

Qin Feng recognised that voice instantly.

It belonged to the enemy general who had nearly killed him with a single punch—the man responsible for the crushing pain he'd felt upon transmigrating into this body.

Emotions surged within him.

Rage—both as the modern man forced to endure that agony, and as the Duke of Qin who had suffered a humiliating and treacherous defeat.

Bitterness—knowing the same man who had once been crushed by his father had almost ended his own life, quite easily at that.

And finally…

Joy.

They had crossed paths again.

And this time, the man was a commander, not just a general.

Killing him—and the generals accompanying him—would delay the enemy's advance and deliver a devastating blow to their morale. Losing their commander twice before even reaching their fortress would be nothing short of catastrophic.

Using True Sight, Qin Feng swept the surrounding area for enemy reinforcements.

The nearest unit was at least forty minutes away.

That gave him a window of thirty minutes—if he wanted to disengage cleanly, without anyone tracing his route.

No more.

He waited until the group fully passed beneath him.

Then, silently, he drew his bow.

Three arrows.

Three high profile targets.

With no obstructions and a clear road below, a triple shot was effortless for a Divine archer.

Through gaps in the foliage—and guided by True Sight—Qin Feng released.

The arrows tore through the air, straight and unforgiving.

Two struck almost simultaneously—piercing cleanly through the necks of the second and third generals.

The first general barely reacted at the last moment, twisting aside as the arrow grazed him.

"ENEMY ATTACK!" he roared.
