Chapter 4 - Overestimating Oneself is a Common Human Flaw

Hikigaya gave his work a flashy title that fit the industry's stereotype.

[ About Me Becoming a God-Slaying Hero in Another World. ]

Although it borrowed some elements from a few otherworld anime he had watched, the content was basically his original work.

It wouldn't get feedback right away, and gaining attention would take time. He originally planned to check the situation after a day.

But after lying down for half an hour.

"I can't sleep at all."

Hikigaya suddenly opened his eyes and stared blankly at the familiar ceiling.

After a few more minutes, he couldn't resist. He turned on the light, sat upright, and checked the situation on his phone.

There were a few more clicks, but no comments yet.

"Perhaps they're reading it now?" He mused to himself.

With an anxious and eager heart, he lay down to sleep again.

"Go to sleep quickly, go to sleep quickly." He forcibly suppressed the urge in his heart and hypnotized himself, so as not to delay going to school tomorrow.

As a result, he suffered from insomnia.

He didn't know when he fell asleep, but in any case, Komachi was the one who woke him up when he got up.

"Onii-chan, you have dark circles under your eyes. Did you stay up late?" Komachi pointed this out.

"I had insomnia."

Hikigaya paused for a bit before coming out honestly, "I was too excited after publishing the book yesterday, and I ended up overthinking it without realizing, so I couldn't sleep for a long time."

"Hehe, a muddled Onii-chan, that's rare." Komachi giggled.

"Let's walk to school today."

To avoid any accidents, he decided against riding his bicycle to school today.

In the classroom.

"Ha…"

Hikigaya yawned and took out his phone.

He didn't have time earlier, but now that he had some free time, he checked on his light novels.

To his surprise, the backend finally showed comments.

For creators, especially new creators like Hikigaya, even one more interactive comment is good, and it's best to get recognition.

The worst thing, of course, is to be ignored.

But when he opened the comments and saw what these readers were saying, his face instantly darkened.

These guys are a bit too arrogant!

"I don't understand, what is the author trying to express? It's written in a muddled way, are they showing off their writing or something?"

"It feels like reading a textbook; there are too many didactic lines."

"I thought it was some kind of satisfying story, but it didn't meet my expectations at all. Bad review."

"The author must be a newcomer, right? Some plot handling could be so simple, but it's made so complicated."

"Stop dreaming, you're not suitable for writing light novels."

"I suggest you look at how others write; I recommend..."

"Such an ugly article, too much personal stuff. The author must be living a very difficult life, right?"

"What the hell are you writing? It's nonsense. Go back to the countryside and raise pigs...!"

Hikigaya finished reading all the comments and immediately felt enraged.

He felt his entire life was negated, felt utterly worthless, and had a sense of falling into an abyss.

"But even if I write badly, you don't have to bash me like this!"

He felt his heart shatter; it was too frustrating, he wanted to vent, to get revenge.

"NMSL, WSND."

This line appeared in the reply chat box.

"Forget it."

But after enduring for a while, he still silently deleted it.

If he started arguing with these people, he would completely become talentless and immoral, and being outnumbered, he couldn't win against them.

And so, Hikigaya went to class with a depressed mood.

He was in a bad mood and hadn't slept well last night. As a result, he accidentally fell asleep during the homeroom teacher's class, and the most terrifying thing was being caught and punished by standing, truly a case of misfortunes never coming singly.

This incident increased the presence of the individual named 'Hikigaya' by at least 10 percentage points. Even a few classmates he knew in class used this incident to mock him.

"Sure enough, I'm just a good-for-nothing. I lived a failed life in my previous life, and this time I specifically chose an easier path, but it's still not working? Even the first hurdle is so difficult..."

Hikigaya lay on his desk, feeling extremely down.

Moreover, it was truly foolish to be able to use the precious memories in his mind but refrain from doing so out of pride.

He could perfectly describe himself as 'a mediocre person, yet with a stubborn pride.'

After a period of self-reproach.

"No! I can't think like that! I haven't even had my 13th birthday in this life, so how can I start talking about success or failure?" He propped himself up with both hands, suddenly invigorated.

Believe in himself, he can become a future warrior!

One day, he would prove to those haters with facts: don't bully a young man for being poor!

At noon, after eating his bento.

He logged into the Fujikawa Bunko Newcomer Award page again, not to check his own information, but to look at other people's submissions to see if there was anything worth learning from.

It proved that he had previously committed the sin of arrogance, believing himself talented before even starting to write, but after sobering up, he began to be down-to-earth.

With a swipe of the page, he saw a work with good data. The title was [ Reincarnated Elf King ] and the author's name was...

"Hmm? Elf Yamada?"

Hikigaya rubbed his eyes, thinking he had misread, and confirmed it again.

Could it be the one from his memories?

With a hint of curiosity, he clicked into the work's page. Because of the limited lunch break, he decided to first glance at the status of the comment section.

As a result, he found that the comment section below this book was almost identical to his own, with various derogatory remarks appearing one after another, except the authors of the two books handled them differently.
