Freda Pov
I screamed when Kyran fell. The sound came out of me before I could stop it. Loud and sharp and filled with terror. Kyran hit the ground hard, and I saw his arm. The black marks spread across his skin like poison.
"Kyran," I shouted and ran to him.
I dropped to my knees beside him and grabbed his burned arm without thinking. The skin was hot under my fingers. The black marks looked like they were moving. Swirling and spreading slowly toward his shoulder.
"I am okay," Kyran gasped. "Just hurts. Do not worry about me."
"You are not okay," I said. Tears streamed down my face. "Look at your arm. Look what she did to you."
"It was worth it," Kyran said. He tried to sit up but fell back down. "I protected Urdon. That is all that matters."
Yolande's smoke form turned toward me. I felt her attention shift like a weight pressing down on my chest. Her yellow eyes glowed brighter as she looked at me.
