Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"Mother, I cannot just go terrorize a doctor, just because you feel unease about him" I sigh for the eighth time in five minutes. My eyes hold my mother's fuming gaze. Honestly, I don't even care about some human shrink who my mother deems disrespectful just because he held his gaze against her superiority complex.

I love my mother, really, I do, but truth be told the woman can be too much. I understand how the older generation expect respect like an entitlement meal but Mann the world isn't the same anymore.

"Matthew, you have to be reasonable. There's something odd about him. Humans despite not knowing about us will always have that instinct to cower from us. It's a natural born instinct to protect themselves. They will try to make themselves seem smaller, look at the few humans that we have in the pack and this guy, something is wrong with him." She throws her purse in anger on my desk, and I try not to let it piss me off.

Honestly, she might be right, something might be wrong with this doctor but really. What do I care about it. I have enough problems to die with already and am not allowing an insolence act to my mother become my problem. Let her husband deal with it.

"Mother why don't you go talk to father about it. Am swamped with all this pack business and am just tired. You have my full permission to do whatever just don't kill him. My mother who was radiating a killing intent suddenly smiles that horrible smile of hers, and I already know that she is up to no good.

"Thank you dear, you know my intuition is never wrong" She moves to kiss me on my forehead and graciously walks out of my office in satisfaction. I turn and shake my head, signaling that no I don't want to talk about it and I don't care about the topic.

"Am still going to say it. Luna can be a bit much, I don't think you should have given her leeway to do what she wants in this case. He's human remember"

Austine, my very calm beta gives his unwelcomed two cents. I ignore him and his advice as I have ignored him during my mother's sudden visit. It's true my mother will probably make the human's life a living hell while he stays in this town but... better him than me.

And am talking from experience.

I alpha Mathhew Anderson of the Blood Moon pack accept that I just sacrificed a human for my own peace of mind. My mother is a nuisance. I love her, yes but damn I need her out of my space for my own mental wellbeing. I had enough to deal with. With all the deaths surrounding the pack and animals around, I didn't need any more on my plate.

Let her do what she wanted, provided she didn't kill him of course. Mom could be vindictive and sadistic, but she wasn't all that bad. Well not that much.

"You know, Tracy did mention something odd about the human. You know how she works for him and all. Yesterday she attempted to stop him from going into the office and accidentally touched him or something and apparently, he is stronger than her which shouldn't be the case since he is human and all".

To this he catches my attention. It's true that some humans could be stronger than werewolves, but the odds were one to ten. Human strength was futile and weakened with age. The doctor I had read through his file since I had to do it for every person who came into pack grounds was thirty. And am quite sure thirty is a good age for human strength. I hadn't seen his picture, but I presumed he must be above average height, because anything below six feet wasn't going to be stronger than us. Werewolves had supernatural strength and just one female omega was stronger than an average human male.

"Now that's interesting" I mutter and bend down to open the drawer to my right where we keep outsiders who venture into our little town's profiles. I retrieve the most recent which just so happens to be at the top. My eyes open the documents and there's not much information really. Ekron Erkhart, sure his name is unusual. It's not every day you find someone named Ekron let alone surnamed Erkhart.

"It says he is thirty, born and raised in the capital and moves a lot due to his job. No criminal record, no traffic tickets and definitely no known offenses. His records are as clean as ever. If I didn't know Reese runs a thorough swipe on all people coming in and out of pack grounds, I would think this was fake."

"Wouldn't hurt to just meet with him, at least for the sake of the pack. You never know who or what walks in here" Austine chimes and I can't say he is wrong. My father once let in hunters and that didn't end too well.

"Okay, how about you give your lovely mate a drive to work tomorrow and see what else you can learn about our shrink" I order and Austine seems to sigh with relief and he nods firmly.

"He does have an unusual name, doesn't he? "

Ekron

Truthfully, I don't feel a threat yet so am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Usually, I can feel a shift when someone or something peculiar arrives, but I have yet to feel him as a threat.

I taste the name in my mind a few times and my very uninterested wolf perks up at this. Storm is the most frustrating wolf ever. He doesn't help, doesn't seem interested in anything anymore. It's been twelve years and we still haven't found our mate. And Storm blames me for it. Every day he tries to remind me of just how much of a terrible host I am for not going out there and finding our destined mate.
