Chapter 6 - Kindling Hearts

Chapter 6

Kuro said nervously

"Uh… yeah! I wanted to join the Magic Academy," he continued. "Why?"

Felix smiled with a smug look on his face

"You're in luck, because I'm going there too! In fact, I'll be your senior soon."

Kuro laughed awkwardly

"Ahaha… hey there, senior… uh?" Kuro said smiling weirdly while a sweat dropped down the side of his cheek

Felix puffed his chest out

"Felix is my name. Felix Blancant of the Flame House."

He spoke with a smug and proud look.

Kuro tilted his head to the right

"The Flame House? What's that?"

(Kuro had no idea what the famous houses were, nor did he know much about magic. His mother had forbidden it after his father disappeared. The subject always made her nervous, even though most boys his age in the village were allowed to use magic.)

Felix froze, he slowly, he turned his head toward Kuro

"Don't tell me you don't know… and you're going to the academy like this?!"

> Kuro chibi insert.

Felix huffed

"I guess I have no other choice but to teach you!"

Kuro stared at him before replying.

"My brother told me he'll teach me. I'm good!"

Kuro tried to leave, but Felix stepped in front of him, blocking the way

"That won't do," Felix said firmly. "I'll teach you."

Kuro sighed.

"…Alright."

Kuro's inner monologue: How do I explain this to Zen…

Felix climbed back up the stairs he had been going down earlier, heading toward the deck. Kuro followed behind him as Felix occasionally turned around to make sure he was still there

"Before we start," Felix said, "you should formally introduce yourself"

"Yeah… okay. Umm… I'm Kuro. I'm from a village far away in the country of Ernest."

Felix nodded

"That makes a lot more sense. No wonder you haven't heard of my house. I'm from one of the two main noble families that directly support the royal family."

He crossed his arms smugly and huffed

Kuro, although surprised, was also impressed… though Felix's smug expression slightly annoyed him

"Whoa, senior, that's really cool"

Kuro's inner monologue: I gotta try to leave somehow…

"So uh, I reall—"

Felix cut him off. "Let me teach you some magic."

Kuro, who had been trying to sneak away, turned back immediately. His eyes gleamed with excitement

Kuro had always been interested in magic, but he had never gotten the chance to properly learn it

Felix raised his hand

"Ignisphaera."

Small particles in the surrounding air gathered near his palm. They slowly formed into a circular shape. A faint spark appeared

Then the orb burst into flame

A glowing ball of fire floated above his hand.

Kuro's eyes widening

"It's beautiful…"

His black eyes reflected the fiery red and yellow glow. The colors danced across them brilliantly.

Felix smirked and fired the spell toward the endless sea

The fireball shot forward before disappearing into the distance

"Hmph. See that? Now that's what you call a magic spe—" Felix stopped mid-sentence he noticed Kuro eyes glaring at him

Kuro was staring at him with shining eyes

"THAT WAS AMAZING! HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!"

Felix blinked

"What do you mean, how did I do that? It's a magic spell. Do you not know what a magic spell is?"

"I do! But I've only ever used water magic."

Felix froze again "And you're applying to the Magic Academy like this…?"

He leaned closer and inspected Kuro carefully. "Hmm…"

"I only know a few water spells," Kuro said shyly, pressing his fingertips together while pouting slightly.

Felix stared at him blankly "…Heeh."

He suddenly puffed up with pride

"AS YOUR SOON-TO-BE SENIOR, I'LL TEACH YOU!"

He stood proudly with his hands on his hips.

Then he cleared his throat and stepped closer.

Felix grabbed Kuro's hand

Kuro immediately jumped back, blushing bright red

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!"

"Calm down," Felix said. "Stand still. I'm trying to teach you something."

Kuro hesitated, but eventually stood still, he closed his eyes. Felix stepped closer again and gently placed his hand on Kuro's forearm

Kuro's face turned red again

Felix raised Kuro's hand slowly. After a brief moment of silence, Felix began explaining

"This might be harder to learn, but it's much more effective when casting spells. First, empty your mind."

He spoke calmly

"Now slowly feel every part of your body. Feel the mana inside you… flowing like blood through your veins."

Kuro exhaled slowly

The sensation came naturally to him.

Felix quietly removed his hand, though Kuro didn't even notice

"Now gather that mana from your core to your palm," Felix continued. "Imagine shaping the air around you into a ball."

"The air makes it easier to imagine!" Kuro said with his eyes still closed

Felix smiled

"Right?!"

"Now for the final step. Imagine a spark… and send it into the ball."

A faint crackling sound appeared. A small flame ignited in Kuro's palm. Curious, Kuro opened his eyes

A small fireball floated above his hand.

It wasn't as big as Felix's, but it was still beautiful. Kuro stared at it in awe like a child seeing magic for the first time

Felix, who normally carried himself with pride and nobility, softened when he saw Kuro's reaction

He made a relaxed, almost gentle expression.

Kuro turned back to Felix excitedly

"Senior, can you teach me mo—"

He suddenly stopped, Felix was staring at him with his gleaming red eyes.

"Um… what's wrong?"

"Nothing," Felix replied quickly. "As your senior, I will take responsibility for teaching you!"

Kuro smiled brightly

The rest of the day passed with them practicing spell after spell. Felix teaches Kuro more flame spells, along with a few basic earth and wind spells.

They practiced so much that they completely skipped both lunch and dinner. By the time night fell, Kuro collapsed onto the deck, exhausted

Felix dropped beside him, equally drained.

Both of them were smiling

For that moment, there was no pride, no status, and no worries about the future.

Just two kids laughing together.

They laid on the ship's deck staring up at the night sky, joking and laughing endlessly.

From afar, Zen watched them.

A faint smile appeared on his face, a smile barely visible..

Felix's voice and his magic… It reminded him of someone.

A memory long sealed away within Zen stirred something distant, from another time

He turned away quietly and disappeared into the darkness

Back on the deck, Felix and Kuro were still lying on the floor

Kuro's stomach suddenly growled loudly, They burst into laughter

Felix wiped tears from his eyes

"Wanna go grab food?"

Kuro nodded quickly

"Yeah! Let's go!"

**Cut**

A few hours later…

A small figure quietly crept down the hallway.

The figure stopped in front of Room 19. The door unlocked softly

The figure tried to sneak inside then the lights suddenly turned on.

Zen was sitting on his bed.

"Welcome back."

Kuro froze. A sweat drop ran down his face.

"Ha! Yeah! I am! I'm here!"

He quickly walked into the room

"Well… I'm kind of sleepy, so I'll just go right to bed!"

He walked stiffly like a robot toward the bed, removed his boots, and immediately wrapped himself in the blanket

Zen turned off the lights

Kuro's thoughts:Holy shit… does he not sleep?!

A few seconds of silence passed then Zen spoke.

"So… did you have fun learning magic?"

Kuro immediately jumped up on his bed.

"Yeah! It was great! I learned so many spells and Felix taught me a bu—"

Kuro froze.

He slowly covered his mouth, then he quietly dropped back into bed and peeked at Zen.

Zen was already lying down

"You're allowed to make friends," Zen said calmly

"And learning magic with him will make it easier for me to teach you as well."

He paused

"If you can handle training with both of us, that would be best."

Another pause

"Just don't tell him too much about me… or the things we discussed earlier."

Kuro's eyes widened "Wait really?!"

Zen didn't respond, he nodded

"I won't tell him anything! I promise!" Kuro smiled happily

"Thank you…"

He quickly fell asleep, The next morning, Zen stood beside Kuro's bed

Kuro was still sleeping much past his usual time

Zen created a small water ball, preparing to dump it on him

But then he paused.

A memory flashed in his mind

A girl…. Sleeping quietly and peacefully on a bed.

[Extras :D]

Ignisphaera is a spell which brings to life a ball of fire. Creating an image and focusing the flow of your core mana into palm along with the imagery helps you cast spells in a much more refined way

Magic is all around us, blended with the air we breathe. The mana particles around us are stored in our core helping us cast spells, most of the people having big enough cores to use up to intermediate magic and some to high level magic!

After using the mana stored in your core, resting helps you recover it. Gathering it from the Atmosphere nearby, it's usually a quick process. Mana dense area can be helpful and not helpful depending on the thickness & toxicity of the mana

Core cannot size cannot change after birth it remains the same although there are very very rare exceptions to this case, the better the use of mana the less mana you'll need causing you to have more efficient mana usage
