Chapter 9 - Blood of the Monarch

Tenno's breath hitched.

The void around him flickered like a dying star, unable to remain stable under the weight of Veylar's revelation. The images floating in the darkness — the throne, the war, the child — pulsed with a truth he wasn't ready to face.

"I'm… his descendant?" Tenno whispered.

Veylar's expression didn't change, but the void trembled as if acknowledging the gravity of the moment.

"You carry more than the Monarch's spark," the Warden said. "You carry his bloodline. His legacy. His unfinished will."

Tenno staggered back. His heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst through his chest.

"That's impossible. I'm just—"

"A mortal?" Veylar interrupted. "A coincidence? A mistake?"

The Warden stepped closer, and the galaxies swirling behind him dimmed.

"Nothing about you is accidental."

---

The Monarch's Shadow

The void shifted again, revealing a towering silhouette seated upon a throne forged from collapsing stars. The Monarch's presence radiated a pressure so immense Tenno felt his knees weaken just looking at the image.

"You were born," Veylar said, "because the Monarch foresaw his own fall."

The silhouette raised a hand, and the universe bent around it.

"He created a contingency. A successor who would not be bound by the same cosmic laws. Someone who could inherit his authority without inheriting his fate."

Tenno's voice cracked. "Why me?"

Veylar's eyes glowed brighter.

"Because you are the only being in existence capable of stabilizing the Rift Protocol."

---

The Protocol Reacts

Tenno's system erupted with notifications.

[GENETIC SIGNATURE VERIFIED]

[SUCCESSOR STATUS: AUTHENTIC]

[RIFT PROTOCOL—PHASE 3 UNLOCKING]

[WARNING: HOST CAPACITY INSUFFICIENT]

A surge of energy tore through Tenno's body. He gasped, clutching his chest as the Monarch's dormant power inside him awakened like a sleeping beast.

Veylar watched calmly.

"This is the burden of your lineage. The Protocol recognizes you now. It will no longer remain dormant."

Tenno fell to one knee as arcs of destructive energy crackled around him, distorting the void.

"Stop… it's too much…"

"It must be," Veylar said. "The Monarch's power cannot be inherited by the weak."

---

The Monarch's Memory

The void darkened.

A new image appeared — not a throne, not a battlefield, but a quiet moment.

A man cloaked in cosmic darkness holding an infant wrapped in starlight.

Tenno's breath caught.

"That's…"

"Your origin," Veylar said. "Before the Monarch vanished, he hid you in a lower reality. A world untouched by cosmic conflict. A world where you would grow without interference."

Tenno's mind raced.

His childhood.

His strange dreams.

The feeling that he never truly belonged.

It all made sense now.

"You were meant to awaken when the seal weakened," Veylar continued. "And today… it has."

The Final Trial Begins

The void shattered like glass.

Tenno found himself standing on a colossal platform suspended above an endless abyss of swirling destruction. Veylar floated above him, arms spread wide.

"This is the final trial," he declared. "The Trial of Identity."

Tenno rose slowly, the Monarch's power flickering around him like unstable flames.

"What do I have to do?"

Veylar's voice echoed across the abyss.

"Prove that you are not merely the Monarch's descendant…"

The abyss roared.

"…but that you are worthy of surpassing him."

Tenno's system chimed one last time.

[FINAL TRIAL: ASCENSION]

[OBJECTIVE: SURPASS THE MONARCH'S LIMITS]

The platform trembled.

A second figure materialized across from Tenno — a perfect mirror of himself, but older, stronger, radiating the Monarch's full destructive authority.

Tenno stared in shock.

"That's—"

"Your potential," Veylar said. "Your future. Your destiny."

The mirrored Tenno opened his eyes.

And smiled.
