Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Accident

Nilla stormed down the street, her fists clenched, anger and confusion clouding her mind. She barely noticed the cars rushing past her, her thoughts consumed by Will and the fight earlier. Eleven ran after her, struggling to keep up.

"Nilla! Slow down!" Eleven shouted, panic rising in her chest. "You have to watch where you're going!"

"I don't care!" Nilla snapped over her shoulder, not realizing how loud she had become. "I just… I can't deal with him right now!"

They reached the crosswalk near the corner, and Nilla stepped forward without looking. A car screeched to a halt, horns blaring. Eleven screamed as she dove forward, catching Nilla just enough to prevent a full impact, though the force threw them both slightly to the sidewalk.

"Call an ambulance!" Eleven shouted, fumbling for her phone with trembling hands. Her fingers shook as she dialed 911, describing the situation as clearly as she could while keeping a protective arm around her sister.

Within minutes, the wail of sirens echoed down the street. Paramedics arrived quickly, checking Nilla over and carefully lifting her onto a stretcher. Eleven held her hand tightly as they loaded her into the ambulance.

On the way to the hospital, Eleven's hands wouldn't stop shaking. "You're going to be okay, Nilla," she said softly. "Just stay still, alright? Just stay with me."

Once they arrived at the hospital, the paramedics reassured them that Nilla was fine. Her injuries were minor—just some scrapes, bruises, and small cuts, nothing serious or broken. Eleven exhaled shakily, relief mingling with her lingering fear.

Still holding Nilla's hand, Eleven pulled out her phone and called their mom. "Mom! Mom, Nilla's been in an accident!" Her voice trembled as she explained what had happened, recounting the street and the car.

Their mom's voice cracked over the phone. "What?! Is she okay? I'm coming right now!"

"She's fine," Eleven quickly added, trying to calm her. "Just some cuts and bruises. Nothing serious."

Still panicked, their mom immediately called Will. "Will… she's been in an accident!" Her voice was sharp with worry, making him flinch as he rushed to the hospital.

Nilla sat on the hospital bed, her hair falling across her face, trying to shake off the shock. Eleven stayed beside her, brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead. Their mom arrived minutes later, running into the room and hugging Nilla tightly. "Oh my baby… thank God you're okay," she whispered, holding her close.

Nilla let herself relax slightly into their mom's arms, the tension of the day slowly draining away. Though the events had been terrifying, she was surrounded by her family, safe, and for the first time in hours, she could finally breathe.
