Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Still Saying It's Not Your Fault

Even though I don't understand Kushida Kikyo's point, there are plenty of people who do their own thing. Horikita Suzune isn't the first one Kamio Tatsuya has met.

So Kamio Tatsuya doesn't think there's anything particularly wrong with what Horikita Suzune is doing now. After all, choosing to be alone is her own business.

"It's her freedom, and she hasn't done anything to cause trouble for others, right?"

"Of course, I understand. But many people are worried about her."

Kushida Kikyo's face is full of worry, whether it's real or not.

But whether it's real or fake, this girl is pretty amazing, in a way.

"I'm not very familiar with her. You've come to the wrong person." Kamio Tatsuya refused directly. "Even though I'm her desk mate, I basically don't talk to her when I'm in class. It's her other desk mate, Ayanokouji, who chats with her often. And I'm suspended from school this week, so I probably can't help you much."

I don't want to take on this kind of trouble, so Ayanokouji, I'm leaving it to you. We're even.

"But I just saw Horikita come here."

Damn it, you're following her?!

That's not a good habit!

"Oh, that's because I asked her to help me explain what teacher said was important in class. After all, I'm going to be out of school for a week, and she looks like a smart, high-achieving student."

Kamio Tatsuya made up the story easily, without any hesitation.

"I see." Kushida Kikyo nodded. "So it seems Horikita is a kind person after all. Even though she looks cold, she's willing to help classmates who are having trouble."

Uh, I didn't say she was kind. That's just your guess, it's got nothing to do with me.

Kamio Tatsuya picked up his teacup and silently took a sip.

But this also kind of screwed over Horikita Suzune.

Oh well, too bad.

It's not the first time I've screwed her over.

"In that case, I'll be going."

After learning that Horikita Suzune is cold on the outside but warm on the inside, Kushida Kikyo said goodbye with a smile on her face.

"Okay, take care. I won't see you out."

After Kushida Kikyo left, Kamio Tatsuya finally had some peace and quiet. But he waited until bedtime, and Hirata Yosuke still didn't show up.

It seems like because Kushida Kikyo came, he didn't come.

The next day, after school in the afternoon.

"Kikyo, do you want to go to the cafe on the way back?"

"Yeah, I want to, I want to! Oh, but wait a second. Let me go ask someone else."

After saying that to her female friend, Kushida Kikyo ran straight over to Horikita Suzune.

"Horikita, I'm going to the cafe with my friend. If you're free, would you like to come with us?"

"No thanks."

Horikita Suzune refused without hesitation.

Because she's not only not interested, she also doesn't have any money.

"Okay, then I'll invite you next time."

Kushida Kikyo didn't look discouraged at all, her smile was still bright.

"There's no need. I find it annoying when you do that."

"I'll invite you again. Because I think someone who helps classmates they hardly talk to must be a good person."

Kushida Kikyo was still smiling.

But Horikita Suzune didn't quite understand what she was saying.

Helping classmates they hardly talk to?

What are you talking about?

I don't know anything about doing that.

Horikita Suzune was confused, but her face was still cold.

"Oh, right, are you going to see Kamio-kun later?"

Now Horikita Suzune was even more confused.

"Why would I go see him?"

"Huh? Kamio-kun said he asked you to help him explain what teacher said was important in class, so I thought you would go see him after school."

Kushida Kikyo looked surprised.

"Did I get it wrong?"

Hearing this, Horikita Suzune's expression changed a little, and then she packed up her things without saying a word.

"Then I'll be going."

Some time later, outside room 404 on the fourth floor of the first-year dorms, Horikita Suzune stood there and knocked on the door.

"What is it now?" Kamio Tatsuya looked at Horikita Suzune, who was giving off a cold vibe, with a sleepy, but fake annoyed expression. "You're not here to say the same nonsense from yesterday, are you?"

"Didn't you ask me to help you explain what teacher said was important in class?"

Horikita Suzune's tone was full of coldness, and a little bit of annoyance.

Kamio Tatsuya looked a little awkward.

"Come on in."

After pouring Horikita Suzune a cup of tea, Kamio Tatsuya started to explain what happened yesterday.

"So, you lied to her because you didn't want her bothering you?"

"Because I think it's a hassle to get involved with you guys." Kamio Tatsuya glanced at her and said calmly.

"Are you saying I'm a hassle?"

That's not what I meant at first, but since you put it that way…

"Isn't it? If you hadn't come to see me yesterday, or if you had come without her finding out, none of this would have happened.

She came to me yesterday because of you."

"Speaking of which, aren't you spreading rumors about me by making things up? How come you make it sound like it's my fault?"

"But in the end, if you hadn't come to see me, Kushida wouldn't have come to see me, and she wouldn't have asked why you came here.

If she didn't ask why you came here, I wouldn't have had to make up a lie about you coming to help me with the key points. Can you say that this all started with you or not?"

Horikita Suzune was speechless. It seemed like, maybe, that was true?

After a long silence.

Horikita Suzune looked at Kamio Tatsuya and asked hesitantly, "What do you think? Do you think I should try to get along with her?"

As soon as she asked the question, Horikita Suzune realized she had asked a stupid question.

Kamio Tatsuya's rude, "are you an idiot" look had already answered her question.

"What's it to me? Whether you become friends with her is your business. Don't drag me into it. I'm not your parent. Do you need me to decide whether you make friends or not?"

Your brother Horikita Manabu must be so "honored" to have you as his sister!

Damn, what an idiot!

Speaking of which, did Horikita Manabu choose this closed-off school because of you perhaps?

"That may be true, but you're awfully rude."

Horikita Suzune's tone was full of annoyance.

"What do you want me to do? Sing you a song? Or add a melody to my words when I speak?"

"No need. I hope you can always be this clever, and I won't get a chance to catch you."

Wow, you're holding a grudge.

"Good luck with that."

Looking at Kamio Tatsuya, who didn't seem to care at all, Horikita Suzune was a little frustrated.

What is this guy?

Just pray. Pray you don't fall into my hands.

"I'm going back!"

"Take care. I won't see you out." Kamio Tatsuya yawned. "Oh, and if there's nothing important, don't come tomorrow."

"Do you think I like coming here?"

"That's for the best. Thank you."

Horikita Suzune stood up angrily, grabbed her bag and quickly left Kamio Tatsuya's dorm.

Heh, just a teenage girl. I can handle you.
