Hagoromo sat quietly to the side, lost in thought, while Princess Tsunade worked tirelessly.
Casualty reports, material losses, plans for the next phase of operations, and preparations for the arrival of the Third Hokage—all of it required review and approval by her, the highest-ranking commander present.
It wasn't until quite some time had passed that Tsunade finally finished the work at hand.
"Hagoromo, how are your injuries? Any problems?"
"Thank you for your concern, Lady Tsunade. I don't feel like there's anything wrong," Hagoromo replied with a smile. As he spoke, he lifted one arm and casually rotated it a few times to show that his mobility was fine.
"Of course you feel fine," Tsunade said coldly. "Your injuries were treated under my personal—direction of the medical-nin."
In other words, if the treatment hadn't been timely and precise, Hagoromo wouldn't be anywhere near this lively.
Her words made Hagoromo's smile stiffen slightly.
So it wasn't that his injuries were light—it was simply that the doctor was good.
Still… personally directing the medical-nin? That didn't quite sound like she had actually gotten her own hands dirty.
Some of Tsunade's quirks clearly lay outside Hagoromo's knowledge base. Back then, he'd been drenched in blood from head to toe. The fact that Tsunade had even spared him a second glance was already a blessing from his ancestors—expecting her to personally treat him was wishful thinking.
"Before Kushina left, she asked me to make sure you were taken care of," Tsunade continued. "However, the Third Hokage will be arriving soon. Once he does, my command authority will be transferred back to him. Given your current condition, you probably won't make it in time for the final engagement against Sunagakure. Otherwise, with your combat strength, you would've been a significant help."
So Kakashi's information had been accurate after all.
The Third Hokage really was coming.
Hagoromo was about to respond, but Tsunade didn't give him the chance.
"You don't need to rush to deny it. I saw everything clearly that night," she said calmly. "If not for your attack rendering Shukaku combat-ineffective, the outcome would've been unimaginable. And then you escorted Kushina off the battlefield. It's no exaggeration to say you were the greatest contributor to that battle."
She paused, then fixed her gaze directly on Hagoromo.
"That jutsu I'd never seen before—I can say with certainty that it was your original creation. After learning that you previously developed Chidori, I honestly wasn't surprised by your ability to invent ninjutsu anymore. So I'll ask you this directly: is that level of jutsu something you can use at will?"
Tsunade's expression was extremely serious.
Naturally, she categorized the electromagnetic cannon Hagoromo had used as a form of ninjutsu. That was only logical—within this world's power system, any overwhelmingly powerful jutsu inevitably fell under the umbrella of ninjutsu.
Faced with her question, Hagoromo remained calm.
He had already thought long ago about what kind of—ahem—reasonable explanation he would need to give in order to convince others.
So he decisively shook his head.
"That's impossible."
Tsunade said nothing, merely adopting an expression that clearly said go on.
"Ever since I started learning ninjutsu, I realized that my affinity for Lightning Release is extremely high," Hagoromo explained. "While I can fully utilize its destructive power, the associated risks are almost negligible for me. And besides that, my body has… a certain trait."
"What kind of trait?" Tsunade asked.
"I can convert the chakra I normally generate into Lightning Release chakra and store it."
Normally speaking, if a shinobi's total chakra capacity was one hundred units, that meant producing a hundred units was the absolute limit.
But what Hagoromo meant was different.
After maintaining his normal hundred units, he could still generate an additional unit—convert it into Lightning Release chakra—and store it away.
As for where or how it was stored, Hagoromo didn't elaborate. He trusted that Tsunade wouldn't press him on that point.
If he'd told this to anyone else, the immediate reaction would've been skepticism—it clearly violated common sense.
But Tsunade was different.
Her instinctive response was to believe him.
Why?
Because this sounded remarkably similar to her own Strength of a Hundred Seal and Creation Rebirth.
And sure enough, Hagoromo's next words aligned perfectly with her expectations.
"To release a jutsu of that magnitude, I basically exhausted all the Lightning Release chakra I've accumulated since becoming a ninja. So yes, I can use that kind of jutsu—but only once every three or four years."
It was a very reasonable explanation.
If Hagoromo had claimed he could casually fire off attacks like that… that would've been terrifying.
And he wasn't worried about contradicting himself. A trump card was a trump card—hidden was hidden. In truth, there were very few enemies in a shinobi's lifetime that actually required such overwhelming firepower.
After all, how many times could one expect to face a tailed beast head-on?
As expected, Tsunade felt both regret and relief upon hearing this.
If someone Hagoromo's age could casually beat a tailed beast, then what did that say about shinobi like her, who had lived and fought for decades?
"And there's something else," Hagoromo continued. "For some reason, Lightning Release chakra that I've stored for a long time becomes undetectable once it's released. I don't really understand what changes occur in the process."
As he spoke, he raised his right hand. A faint arc of electricity crackled between his thumb and middle finger.
If a sensory-type ninja were present, they wouldn't detect any chakra fluctuations at all.
In truth, this wasn't such a big issue.
What Hagoromo didn't know was that even in canon, phenomena like stored electricity were often mistaken for Lightning Release. To the average shinobi, anything that crackled and sparked was simply categorized as Lightning Release.
Hagoromo's explanation was nearly complete—but Tsunade still had one more question.
"I understand all that," she said slowly. "But that night, I also saw you use a jutsu similar to the Third Kazekage's Magnet Release."
Your eyesight was awfully good for the middle of the night…
Hagoromo forcefully suppressed the urge to complain and replied instead, "That wasn't Magnet Release. At its core, it's still another application of Lightning Release. I don't possess Wind Release chakra, nor do I have a kekkei genkai."
"Then we have to talk about the relationship between electricity and magnetism," Hagoromo continued. "I don't know the exact principle behind Magnet Release, but fundamentally speaking, anything Magnet Release can do, sufficiently powerful Lightning Release can also accomplish. There's a phenomenon called electromagnetic induction—"
At this point, Hagoromo had fully slipped into the role of an academic prodigy—or perhaps a physics expert.
He launched straight into an explanation of the relationship between electricity and magnetism, without sparing a thought for whether Tsunade, at her age, could even follow along.
In reality…
She couldn't understand a single word.
Their foundational education was completely different.
If Hagoromo had been explaining a ninjutsu, Tsunade would've grasped it instantly. But when he started talking about cutting magnetic field loops and experimental principles—
Sorry.
Everything coming out of his mouth now might as well have been Martian.
