Chapter 69: Damn, Instant Death

After eliminating the Ame shinobi in the bamboo forest, Yoru didn't immediately help Tsunade nor observe whether the earlier explosions had attracted the tower's attention.

Instead, he retrieved a palm-sized storage scroll from his large-capacity pocket, sealing the corpses' heads while searching bodies for antidote.

Perhaps Hanzo of the Salamander felt extremely confident about the salamander's poison, never imagining anyone besides himself—who'd signed a blood contract with the salamander—could develop a formula to cure it.

Moreover, since the salamander's poison smoke couldn't be completely blocked even by gas masks, and to avoid subordinates dying to his own hands, all seven flak vest-wearing Ame shinobi carried antidote on their persons.

Yoru's luck proved decent today. His earlier dismemberment hadn't destroyed these antidotes.

"Hm?"

After sealing all the heads and collecting all antidote, Yoru continued recovering the Flying Thunder God kunai and stones he'd used with Earth Body Flicker and intangibility to set bamboo forest traps.

Suddenly, the ground beneath his feet trembled slightly.

Though the tremor proved weak, lasting only an instant, Yoru's expression still turned serious.

Mysterious earthquakes definitely wouldn't occur without reason.

Assuming the earlier commotion had been detected and massive Ame shinobi forces or giant creatures were now rushing here, Yoru formed seals, closed his eyes, and used sensory techniques.

The next second, Yoru's expression changed drastically.

Unable to recover those Flying Thunder God kunai and stones now, Yoru first used intangibility, then teleported away.

Time rewinds to when Yoru pursued the sensory ninja.

Tsunade entered the underground base entrance. Without needing to create shadow clones for advance scouting, she ran through the corridor.

Because someone had already invaded this place.

The corridor wasn't pitch-black darkness—lights lined both walls.

However, the stairs proved uneven. Many areas showed explosion and jutsu traces, plus over a dozen unprocessed corpses and heavy bloody stench.

Clearly, Ame shinobi dared not casually handle these corpses. Instead, they'd sealed the entrance, guarding this location while awaiting Hanzo of the Salamander's return.

If not for Amegakure suffering attack with Ame shinobi needed elsewhere, guards here would definitely exceed seven.

Smoothly reaching the corridor's end, blocking Tsunade's path stood a heavy iron door.

The ground showed no Earth Release jutsu traces—only scorched marks and congealed blood. Recalling Katsuyu mentioning the damaged barrier, Tsunade's expression immediately brightened: "Excellent! This place hasn't been looted. Iwagakure actually helped tremendously!"

However, surrounding traces made Tsunade calm down.

She didn't rashly force the door open violently but instead retreated into the corridor, created a shadow clone, then held her breath waiting.

BOOM—

The shadow clone punched the iron door. Terrifying chakra eruption dented the gate inward.

The next second, an even larger explosion sounded.

The iron door suddenly bulged, then opened countless small holes, shooting fire pillars formed from countless fire serpents that instantly engulfed the shadow clone, slamming into corridor walls.

The terrifying heat made Tsunade retreat while feeling relieved internally.

She finally understood why corridor corpses remained unprocessed while corpses here had vanished.

They'd been burned away!

Fortunately it wasn't poison gas attack. Tsunade stopped holding her breath.

Once fire pillars vanished, Tsunade created another shadow clone. Another punch finally knocked down the iron door.

This time the iron door didn't retaliate. Tsunade quickly entered.

A chamber resembling a forbidden jutsu vault immediately appeared before her eyes.

Unlike forbidden jutsu vaults filled with bookshelves, here stood entirely medicinal herb cabinets plus large quantities of medicines and some instruments.

"Shadow Clone Technique!"

Time pressed urgently. Tsunade had no time for amazement, forming seals again to execute Shadow Clone Technique.

Over a dozen Tsunades immediately began ransacking this chamber.

The original body used Summoning Technique, summoning a giant slug.

"Katsuyu-sama, I'm counting on you." Tsunade spoke respectfully.

"Tsunade-sama needn't be so polite. A small matter."

Katsuyu again divided into numerous segments. With assistance from the main body in Shikkotsu Forest, they began emptying the chamber.

At this time, Tsunade remained extremely cautious.

Worried these cabinets' undersides or backs might contain explosive tags or traps, she absolutely didn't let shadow clones move cabinets. Instead, she first transferred everything visible and touchable to Shikkotsu Forest, then slowly dismantled locked cabinets violently, ransacking their contents.

"Original! Found the formula section!"

At this moment, a shadow clone suddenly shouted.

Tsunade immediately used Body Flicker over, seeing those scrolls all bearing seals. She quickly said: "Katsuyu-sama, transfer items here to Shikkotsu Forest first."

"I understand."

Slugs climbed over one after another, carrying scrolls, transforming into white smoke and vanishing.

Surrounded by dense smoke, Tsunade suddenly felt the ground beneath her feet trembling slightly.

Just as she thought she'd accidentally triggered some trap, Katsuyu's warning voice reached her ears: "Tsunade-sama, flee quickly!"

Katsuyu's warning came timely enough. Unfortunately, surrounding smoke and cramped space restricted Tsunade.

Before Tsunade could recall the entrance direction, the ground's cracking sounds already resounded.

"ROAR..."

A hoarse giant beast roar generated powerful airflow, dispersing white smoke.

But the next second, purple smoke immediately engulfed Tsunade's figure again.

Damn it!

Before purple smoke engulfed her, Tsunade saw clearly that giant beast's appearance. She also accidentally inhaled purple smoke, only one thought in her mind.

Shadow clones and slug divisions all inhaled poison smoke, then simultaneously transformed into dispersing smoke.

SWISH—

Body already weakening, consciousness growing heavy, vision gradually blurring—Tsunade vaguely saw cold light piercing through purple smoke, shooting violently toward her.

Tsunade used her last strength, instinctively leaping backward.

Even so, the cold light still struck her body.

A blade wound extending from left shoulder to right waist—the jonin vest tore like paper, blood spurting forth.

The blade swing's airflow dispersed some purple smoke, revealing Hanzo of the Salamander's figure hidden in poison smoke.

One slash failing to behead her, Hanzo pressed his advantage, gripping the hilt with both hands, thrusting toward Tsunade's heart.

The attack—decisive and vicious—provided assassination technique's best interpretation.

Tsunade's consciousness gradually consumed by darkness happened to witness this scene. Her heart held no fear of death, only faint regret.

Sorry, Nawaki... Sister probably cannot see the day you become Hokage.

CLANG!

Just as Tsunade was about to lose consciousness, metallic collision sounds suddenly rang in her ears.

Her body fell into a warm embrace. Tsunade gazed at Yoru—one hand holding her, the other gripping the Sword of the Thunder God, blocking Hanzo's thrust. Her lips moved slightly, ultimately only managing two words: "You... idiot..."

Hanzo's pupils contracted, staring intently at the white-haired youth appearing from nowhere before him, memorizing his appearance at maximum speed, then preparing to retreat and create distance, planning to attack again once poison took effect.

Before he could act, the white-haired youth carrying that unconscious blonde woman vanished without movement trajectory.

Once poison smoke dispersed, the nearly emptied chamber contained only Hanzo of the Salamander and that giant salamander.

Seconds later, a muffled voice from within the gas mask broke the silence.

"Tsunade-hime... and the Flying Thunder God Technique."
