Silco, usually the personification of cold, calculating composure, felt his mask slip the moment he saw Chen.

"Jax?" Silco's voice was a jagged rasp. "How did you break through a literal battalion of Shimmer Warriors?"

Chen let out a short, sharp chuckle. "Heh. They're just a bunch of addicts with a bad habit, Silco. Not worth the mana."

Beside Silco, Sevika didn't waste words. Her mechanical left arm hissed, the internal pressure gauges spiking into the red as a razor-sharp, purple-glowing Shimmer blade extended with a lethal clack.

Chen's eyes narrowed. He knew Sevika was the real deal—a brawler who could trade blows with Vi's Hextech Gauntlets. That blade didn't just cut; it tore through reinforced steel like paper.

He glanced at his HUD. Janna's Eye of the Storm was flickering.

Shield Remaining: 1,042 HP Duration: 10s

I need to end this before the timer hits zero, Chen thought. He lunged, swinging the iron lamppost in a crushing overhead strike.

Sevika didn't block. She dropped into a lightning-fast slide tackle, her Shimmer blade thrusting upward toward Chen's kidney.

"COUNTER STRIKE!"

The air around Chen hummed. The blade hissed through empty air as Chen's spin parried the blow perfectly. He countered with a brutal left hook, catching Sevika mid-slide. The impact sent her skidding several meters back, her mechanical arm sparking as she dug her heels into the dirt to steady herself.

"Damn it," she spat, wiping grease from her lip. "How is he this strong?"

Between Janna's AD buff and a fully stacked Conqueror, Chen's attack power was sitting at a terrifying 315. He didn't give her a second to breathe, rushing in to follow up with the stun proc from his E.

But Sevika was a veteran of a thousand street wars. She knew his "miraculous dodge" always ended in a concussive strike. The moment the lamppost swung, she executed a flawless backflip, putting just enough distance between them to make him whiff.

Chen didn't stop. He slammed his Turbo Chemtank active, the canisters on his back hissing as he surged forward with a burst of speed. He swung upward, aiming for her jaw.

It was a trap. Sevika sidestepped, her eyes cold and focused. She let him commit to the swing, then delivered a massive mechanical punch to his chest. Chen stepped back to dodge, but her punch was a feint—the real attack was a vicious leg sweep that sent him crashing to the ground.

The Shimmer blade extended. Sevika plunged it down with everything she had.

In that millisecond, Chen realized the gap. He had the stats, the items, and the system techniques—but Sevika had decades of cold-blooded killing experience. He was playing a game; she was surviving a war.

"Not today!" Chen roared. "UNBREAKABLE WILL!"

The golden rune shields flared around him just as the blade connected.

-450 (Shield Broken! Critical Hit!)

Even with 55% damage reduction, the impact was devastating. The blade tore through his shoulder, grating against bone.

Status Effect: Hemorrhage (10 true damage per second)

"Now!" Chen screamed, looking up toward the canopy of the great tree. "Goddess Janna! MONSOON!"

From the heart of the tree, an ethereal, deafening roar filled the cavern. "The storm is coming!"

Centered on the great tree, a massive shockwave of pure, blue wind surged outward. It hit the tunnels like a physical wall. Shimmer Warriors were tossed around like autumn leaves. Sevika was blasted off of Chen, sent tumbling backward into the darkness of the exit pipe.

The wind didn't just push; it pushed everyone hostile. Silco, Sevika, and the remnants of the Shimmer army were swept nearly a mile away from the Sanctuary's center in a single, divine gust.

Meanwhile, back in the center of the storm, the green light of the Monsoon washed over Chen. His deep shoulder wound knitted together at a visible rate. His health bar shot back up toward the green.

"If you've got the guts, come back for round three!" Chen shouted toward the empty tunnels.

Silco scrambled to his feet a mile away, his clothes torn, his wine glass shattered. He glared back at the glowing tree, the silhouette of the Wind Goddess hovering in the mist. He knew when the "Meta" had shifted.

"Retreat," Silco hissed. Sevika looked like she wanted to argue, but she saw the same thing he did: Janna, the legendary protector of Zaun, had picked a side.

Chen flew back into the Sanctuary on his board, still panting. He cleared the final barricade and froze. "J-Jinx! What are you doing?!"

Jinx was standing in the middle of the plaza, her Gatling gun, Pow-Pow, still smoking. Every single Firelight, including a very dizzy Ekko, was face-down on the ground with their hands over their heads.

Jinx looked at Chen and giggled manically. "How was it? Did you get 'em all? I didn't hear enough screaming~"

"What is wrong with you?" Chen groaned, rubbing his temples. "They're on our team! Why are you holding them at gunpoint?"

Jinx blew a strand of blue hair out of her face. "I knew you had it handled, stat-stick. You went out there all 'Alpha,' so I figured you were confident. But these guys?" She looked disappointedly at the group on the ground. "They kept yelling about 'helping' you. If they'd gone out there, they would've been squashed like bugs. I figured a stun grenade and a little suppressive fire was better than a funeral."

Ekko groaned from the floor, his head spinning. "Again... really? I was stunned yesterday... and now today..."

Chen ignored Ekko and looked at the small blue bird that had landed on his shoulder. She looked exhausted, her feathers slightly ruffled.

"Reformer," the bird chirped, her voice a soft bell. "Are you their leader?"

Chen shook his head and pointed at the half-conscious Ekko. "He is."

The blue bird tilted her head, looking at the groaning boy on the floor, then back at Chen. "...Then why do they all listen to you? Including the leader?"

Chen gave a helpless shrug. "I'm the Political Commissar. It's a long story involving a lot of theory and a few very specific item builds."

He reached out to pat Janna's head, but a sharp gust of wind slapped his hand away. The bird glared at him with ancient, celestial dignity. "What do you think you're doing?"

"N-nothing," Chen stammered, pulling his hand back. "Just checking for... wind resistance."
