Chapter 5 - Day Seven: War (Part 1)

You awoke on the seventh day feeling great. "Oh yeah, no more of that glass bones and paper skin shit." You stretch in the kitchen after having moved the table out of the way and you felt ready for whatever the bugs were planning, during your down time you distributed your stats points, not much but two points into your agility and one in strength could make the difference you'll need today.

"System? How long until I have to fight?" You ask now that your warm ups were done, after equipping your cloak and Newspaper you were ready for battle. "Let's get this over with."

[10 Seconds until encounter.]

And so you wait. 5 seconds left.. 2 seconds.. after waiting for longer than anticipated, several additional minutes in fact, and just as you were about to ask the system until you heard it.

"Is that a helicopter?" You look out the kitchen window, expecting to see one of those RC helicopter and probably a kid or two playing. Instead you see nothing. Literally. The neighborhood was empty and there wasn't any other houses out there for miles when you know for a fact there were other houses not too long ago. "Okay not the weirdest thing I've seen recently but if the noise isn't coming from outside.." Turning from the window you see where the noise is coming from.

[Special Event: Pacific Rim.]

Several helicopters, each were roughly the same size, 72mm height and 265mm length and they were carrying a single Jaeger.

"System!? What the hell is this?" You watch as the Jaeger is dropped near the kitchen entrance.

[Each time Sir Ant-drew returns he is stronger. Prepare yourself.]

"Okay.. but he's clearly cheating! He's in a god damn giant robot!" The only comfort is the ant wouldn't know what is under the cloak. Though with him being in a mech it hardly seemed relevant now.

[Telepathic-]

"Yes I know just link it whenever he's within range." The system readily linked your minds for communication.

"We meet again, human.. This victory shall be in the name of-"

My god, if this is how he'll introduce himself each time I'll just rush him. Running forward you were met by his own advance. However, before you could grab the Jaeger, it fucking jumped.

"How the fu-" The fucker dropped kicked you in the face, causing you to stagger backwards and onto your ass.

[Stun locked for four seconds.]

"What the fuck? Since when could it do that?" You glance towards Ant-drew, who has been silent after you rushed him, he tiltled the head of the Jaeger to the side. "I'm going to enjoy ripping you out of that thing." You had planned on having some fun but nope, fuck that. "Come on then, come and kill me." It was at this moment you realized two things.

The first one being your lack of a proper weapon and the second-

"Flash Step."

"He can still use his skills?!" You panicked mentally. Now, in your defense, how were you supposed to know he could use it alongside the use of his mech? Anyway you digress. You have a bigger problem at the current moment.

With his flash step he built up quite the amount of speed, an impressive feat since he was only a few feet away from you at the time. The second major point being, Newton's first law of motion, I'm sure you know where I'm going with this. For an object in motion will stay in motion and all that and I can say with certainty it is not fun being said object.

Your eyes roll back into your head as you were kicked through the kitchen ceiling, up through the ceiling of the guest bedroom and finally outside where you fortunately had lost enough speed to fall at just the right angle to crash into the tree in your yard and fall through the branches and onto the ground. Upon hitting the ground is when you woke up.

"What.. oh fuck me.." You roll onto your knees just as Ant-drew lands, having jumped through the same hole you so gracefully made your first flight through. "Oh.. now I remember." You say bitterly, however you don't stand just yet. "System shop." You thought, hopeful it would work.

[System Shop Opened. Beginner items available: Sword and Shield. Would you like to purchase them? It will cost your current battle rewards.]

"YES! Purchase Sword and shield!" You see another notification pop up, your items were sent to your inventory. During this moment of silence Ant-drew had approached and started talking.

"-nd for that you shall you face the Queen. However, she will require your unconditional surrender. Will you come peacefully?"

You glance towards your health bar, it dropped by 80% and Ant-drew was still at full health.

You scoffed. "No." You see Ant-drew's fist clench and the mechs right foot shift ever so slightly. "I don't negotiate with territorist." You hold up your hand and flip him the bird. "And tell your Queen to kill-"

"Flash Step!"

You grin this time and with a thought you summon the shield, lowering your stance to be mostly behind the shield, in your right hand appeared your sword. It shined brightly in the light of the morning sun. "So I noticed you only moved forward during your Flash step.." Ant-drew found himself unable to stop himself and watched in horror as the sword pierced the core of the Jaeger.

"Eject!"

From the head of the Jaeger Ant-drew shot out in a drop pod and landed several feet away from the now unstable Jaeger that was about to go nuclear. Ant-drew closed his eyes just as the pod's additional shields protected him, the following explosion violently shook the pod and he could only pray it held up to the punishment. When the light re-entered the pod he could see the mushroom cloud starting to be blown away and no sign of the human, not even the shield. He was relieved.

"It is done.." Ant-drew lowered his head in respect but also relief, the human was a worthy opponent, one to be remembered. The pod opened and he stepped out to see the scorched tree and a large crater where the human had once stood. "I'm glad he is dead." He said, turning away from where the final battle had taken place.

"Hey, don't tell me your giving up already? I was just getting warmed up."

Ant-drew turned sharply, eyes wide in disbelief. Stepping out from behind the tree was none other than the human, throwing aside an empty glass bottle, possibly a potion. He watched the human lower the hood on his head and summoning the sword again but the shield, he noticed, was absent.

"A nuke in the Jaeger.. had the Jaeger been any bigger I'm sure it would have killed me."

Ant-drew watched the human spin his blade, and he had that annoying grin on his face.. Ant-drew decided to break his silence now,

"You will die this time, human. Your death will be a mere footnote in my journey to greatness." His anger was palpable, and rightfully so.

You couldn't blame him, not really, he was following orders but this was your house and you'd be damned if you gave it up to some ants. You noticed the "Enraged" Status effect that was added to Ant-drew's health bar.

You stopped messing about with the sword as you held it in an unfamiliar manner, the lack of technique was obvious as you stared at the ant, any amusement or playfulness was gone now. This has become more than a simple back and forth between a lowly ant.

The tension between the two could be cut with even the dullest knife, their fight was inevitable now.

Ant-drew pulled his sword out of the sheath just as the wind picked up, his antennas swaying from with it. Just as the human's cloak followed in the same direction.

When the breeze settled down a charred leaf fell from the tree and slowly drifted down between them, during it's free fall it slowly disintegrated, revealing that the two had moved in that brief moment. They spoke at the same time, their voices overlapping one another.

"Show me what you're made of, Ant/Human!"
