Chapter 23 - Ranking Tournament (5)

"Perchance," Klaus chuckled as he moved his hands around like he knew what he was doing. In reality, he was trying to control the flames with his hands, but it was pretty imperfect, looking like a homeless man trying to dance for a couple of pennies.

'This is degrading,' he sighed. However, he kept the flames circling. Matthias stood still, his black hair wobbling around due to the breeze around them.

"May the better mage win," Matthias smiled proudly as he held his…sword.

'Not really a mage, like, is it?'

They both disappeared. However, the flames went wild and started rapidly rotating around the desert as they moved around using teleportation.

It was like the sun itself had descended and started dancing. However, still, no hits were landed at all.

Jen was treating the laid-down Evaline, who had now regained almost ninety percent of her mana pool. "I'm fine now," she pushed herself up slowly. Her colour had returned now, and her limbs no longer shook. She was stable on her feet again as she watched the fight unfold.

"We need to help," they both said at the exact same time. However, they didn't know how. Currently, the two boys were basically untraceable.

"So fast," Evaline couldn't follow them at all. All she saw was the sand getting launched around like two ghosts were playing tag.

"We need to predict them," Jen grabbed her cheeks and looked into her eyes directly. "I know a way, but it's dangerous."

"Let's do it!" She screamed out enthusiastically without any hesitation whatsoever, like she didn't even hear the word danger.

Jen grabbed her hand and started channeling her mana into Evaline. "I will overload you with mana…" Jen's body slowly started heating up like a furnace getting ready to blow. "Use the flame circle thingy and trap both, then try and release Master Klaus…"

Evaline nodded. However, she didn't know if it would be possible or not. In the worst case, she eliminates both. In the best case, she eliminates Matthias.

"Blazing ring," however she cast the spell, she knew Klaus wouldn't want him to hesitate, and then, a ginormous circle started spiralling around them.

The heat had risen so much that the sand felt like lava.

'Fuck,' Klaus's feet started burning as he took tiny steps between each teleportation, he was spamming it, without any care in the world.

But he could tell Matthias was getting tired now, he had slowed down drastically to the point that he was getting sluggish and he was somewhat slower now.

'He has to be low on mana,' then he saw the flaming circle appear and he had a plan.

'Fuck it,' instead of trying to outrun Matthias he turned, facing towards him.

"IDIOT!" Matthias screamed as he swung his sword, his face was already getting pale, however, Klaus wasn't going to dodge fully.

He barely ducked, the sword scraping his shoulder, leaving a bloody scar, it felt warm as the blood was oozing out of the scar, however, the duck was why he would win in his mind.

He grabbed Matthias in a bear hug and started spamming the teleportation spell.

"WHAT ARE YOU—" Matthias dropped the sword as their pace increased, not even visible to the spectators anymore at all.

The heat rose and rose as they neared the end of the circle.

'JEN, MAKE IT EVEN HOTTER,' Jen obeyed and channeled more mana as soon as she heard Klaus's thoughts.

The heat rose so much, the sand itself seemed to be smoking.

For Klaus, however, this was the best outcome, "See you after we win," he laughed in the face of Matthias who tried to get him off, however, Klaus wasn't letting go, he dove into the flames directly, trying to burn Matthias into ashes.

'Flame Dominion!' The flames instantly stopped hurting him, instead, they enveloped his scar, trying to force his shoulder back together.

"It's over—" It wasn't, Matthias disappeared, and so did the entire flame circle, Klaus fell on the sand face first and inhaled a mouthful accidentally.

"Where is he?!" Both Evaline and Jen rushed towards him as he lay on the ground, his shoulder still bleeding a tiny amount, however, the circle and Matthias were nowhere to be seen.

"He probably has more spells than one," Klaus chuckled as he coughed up the sand from his throat, his shoulder was burning as he smelt a soft scent of iron in the air, his own blood.

Jen instantly flew over to his shoulder and started mending his scar together, like a surgeon at work.

"At least we lived–"

"NO," Evaline screamed as she shook, "This was our chance to win, if we had been able to kill him…"

"Would yeah, but we didn't and couldn't," Klaus chuckled, he wasn't going to give up winning just because of one thing, "this is a draw, not a loss, we can beat him,"

"Why didn't you start using your teleportation spell sooner?!" Evaline grabbed him by the shoulder, which sent an immediate jolt of pain through his body, making Klaus slap her hands off him.

"Uh…" He didn't know what to say, he had to copy it first, but he couldn't just say that.

"AND YOU USE MULTIPLE AFFINITIES?!" She kept screaming in his face, asking the obvious questions.

"Uh…" He was still lost for words, not knowing how to answer, so he just raised his hands like a clown and turned his head, "Surprise?"

She wanted to knock him out but couldn't, even if she wanted to, her veins were burning due to the overload of mana she received to enlarge the spell.

"Well, it's not important—"

"It is! That's an insane talent! And you are a silent caster as well!" Her eyes were shining as if she saw Klaus was a potential rival for her now.

'Is this really important now…' He looked around at the half-blown-away desert with craters everywhere.

"And done," Jen flew up as she managed to force the scar together using her flames.

It felt warm, but the bleeding stopped completely, so he was safe for now.

"Well, we need to win still," He rubbed the back of his head as he looked at the two in front of him.

"Have you seen Nyra?" His question made Evaline turn her head slightly, despite that, she instantly nodded a no.
