Chapter 30 - Friend or Foe

[Pick one Grimoire]

Four books started in front of him again, just like back in the forest.

They looked interesting to say the least. The first one was a pretty thin book. Its cover had a perfectly illustrated pale grey stone that seemed to be cracked down the middle. Silver cracks ran across the spine of the book like it had its own veins pulsating like a heartbeat.

'Pretty creepy,' Klaus felt a chill creep down his spine as he watched the pulsating cracks. 'Could this be stone-related…?'

But he still remembered: the covers don't always portray what the book hides.

'Right,' he facepalmed and turned towards the second one.

This book had a bound on it, made from deep, dark leather.

'Interesting,' Klaus looked closer and saw beads of water constantly forming and disappearing on the book's cover.

There seemed to be a title, however, it was constantly floating around and blurry, like Klaus wasn't allowed to read it.

'This actually could be good,' he smiled, then turned his eyes.

The third book wasn't made of paper.

'The fuck is this,' Klaus looked at the iron 'book' in front of him. His face had an expression that couldn't exactly be described using words.

It had orange veins running across it like it was molten lava, and it radiated an overwhelming heat.

'Right,' Klaus wiped a bead of sweat off his forehead and looked at the final one.

It wasn't made of paper again. It was a marble book, however, the book looked broken.

'Uh,' it looked like it shattered and was glued together by a kid in an arts class.

'Honestly, that looks the most interesting,' Klaus kept looking at the last book. Weirdly enough, he felt a connection to it.

Probably because in his past life, he was just as much of a broken failure as the book in front of him.

'Let's do this one,' he took a deep breath and touched the fourth book.

[Starting abilities unlocked:]

[- Fracture Spike]

[- Weight Crush]

All the books instantly disappeared from in front of them.

'Silent Fracture?' Klaus mentioned the name, and the shattered book appeared in his hand.

It opened on the first page again, which was shattered as well.

However, just then, he heard a step in the corner of the room. "What was that?" Both he and Jen turned, however, there was nothing there.

"Probably the wind outside, master," Jen turned the topic away and looked back at the book, so Klaus didn't bother and did the same.

The spells that the system displayed earlier on the red panels now seemed to be etched into the books, like they were carved into the first page.

He tried turning the pages again, but they refused to move.

'I'd say let's test them, but…' he looked around, seeing his room, and it was like price tags everywhere.

'Would be expensive to fix it,' he threw the book up, and it dispersed into nothingness.

'Anyways, we still have something to do,' Jen looked at him as soon as she read his thoughts and turned her head.

Klaus didn't say anything, just walked out of the room into the hall. It was empty, the lights didn't flicker at all, no movements could be heard from any of the rooms.

He stood still and focused on a spell, after all, he had a reason behind the searching spell.

'All Seeing Eye,' as soon as he thought of the spell, thousands of mana threads started floating around him in a golden yellow colour.

'Find me, Cassian Ignisvane,' all of the threads instantly shot out towards the end of the hallway, up the staircase.

'Follow,' Klaus looked at Jen and started taking slow steps, following the threads up the stairs. The threads floated inside a room at the end of the second floor.

'He's in there, huh,' Klaus walked forward, trying to lighten his steps as much as possible.

Once he arrived in front of the door, he wasn't sure what exactly to do.

'Let's just see where this gets us,' he grabbed onto Jen, then focused.

'Mirror Movement,' his frame disappeared from in front of the door and appeared inside, the room had the exact same layout and everything as his, except it was more messy.

'This easy?' In front of him lay the snoring Cassian without a care in the world for anything, completely unaware of what was happening.

'Let's get started.'

Fifteen minutes ago, Razael stood in the shadows of Klaus's room, watching him stare at absolute nothingness without saying anything.

'Has Sir Klaus gotten crazy?' He kept staring at the blond boy who was looking at the wall in front of himself.

'Should I report this?' Just then a book appeared in his hands out of nowhere, 'what?!' Razael nearly made a sound as he stepped on the ground, however, he quickly used the shadows to move to the other corner of the room.

"What was that?"

"Probably just the wind outside, master," Razael stood still like a statue watching the two look in his old spot before turning back towards the book.

'Close, I can't get discovered. It would be an embarrassment,' He sighed, he tried his best to look at the contents of the book, however, it was empty.

'What?' Just then he watched as Klaus threw the book up, and it disappeared, then, without saying anything, he walked outside.

So Razael followed in his shadows, never dispersing his spell.

He stood still, outside on the hallway, then suddenly, as if he was enlightened, he walked upstairs, he just followed after him yet again.

'What is Sir Klaus doing…' On the second floor, he stood in front of a door, then grabbed the fairy and disappeared inside the room.

'!!!' Razael didn't know whether to laugh or cry, even he knew that intruding into another person's room in the academy was strictly forbidden.

He instantly felt a surge of mana rushing towards them from the outside.

'Fuck,' He rushed to the end of the hallway, which had a ginormous window, the moonlight reflecting from the glass as he looked outside.

'Fuck fuck fuck,' From the gigantic walls, a long, white-haired man started rushing towards their location, his ruby eyes shining under the moonlight, he was followed by a ginormous man with long black hair and a martial artist's attire.

'I have to take care of his mess,' he looked back to the room then outside again.

"Shadow Transfer."

He instantly appeared outside in the shadow of the moonlight, and the two men instantly stopped, right before him.

"Are you the intruder?" The white-haired man asked a question politely, his hands already spread out to ready a spell, however, the gigantic guy didn't hesitate, and a spear appeared in his hands.

"And if I am?" Razael's answer didn't surprise them in the slightest, instead, they both took a battle stance.

"Then whatever mission you are on," a golden aura started enveloping the spear of the man, "ends here, fucker."
