Lyra's POV
The librarian guided me toward a shadowy corner of the library where the air hung thick with the scent of aged leather and forgotten secrets.
Every tome surrounding me appeared centuries old, their weathered spines holding mysteries I could barely imagine.
"I rarely escort students to this section," the librarian explained, her voice hushed with reverence. "However, I recently discovered a misplaced volume and returned it to its proper place. It should provide exactly what you need."
"I appreciate this," I whispered, my gaze sweeping across the countless ancient volumes. How many contained stories of my bloodline? My ancestors? I would return here someday for leisurely exploration. Today, however, I had urgent business.
