Lyra's POV
Nyx's voice echoed desperately in my mind. The chains! she screamed. They have to be magical! They're preventing you from shifting!
I yanked against the restraints again, a sharp hiss escaping my lips as the silver burned deeper into my raw skin. Below me, Malakai's laughter rang out like broken glass scraping against stone.
"Nice attempt, little wolf," he taunted, his voice dripping with cruel amusement. "Those chains are soaked in wolfsbane. You're completely screwed if you think you can shift out of this."
"Foolish creature," the standing vampire sneered, his pale lips curling into a grotesque smile. "It will be exquisite watching the life drain from your eyes as we bleed you dry."
The vampire Malakai had knocked down earlier finally managed to pull himself upright. His gaze locked onto me, and he slowly dragged his tongue across his lower lip. The raw hunger blazing in his crimson eyes awakened a primal terror that clawed at my very core.
