Chapter 1 - A poor farmer

Once there was a poor farmer named Ramu who lived in a small village at the edge of a dry field.

Ramu owned only a tiny piece of land and an old cow that gave very little milk. Every morning before sunrise, he walked to his field with a wooden plough, hoping the soil would be kind to him. Some years the rain came, but most years it did not. Still, Ramu never complained. He believed that honest work always had value, even when rewards were small.

One evening, while digging near a tree, Ramu found a small clay pot buried in the ground. Inside were a few old gold coins. His heart raced. With that money, he could finally live comfortably. But Ramu thought of the land and the village. He worried that the coins might belong to someone who had hidden them long ago.

The next day, Ramu went to the village head and told him everything. After asking the elders, they learned the land once belonged to a wealthy merchant who had no living family. The elders decided the treasure should belong to the farmer who found it honestly.

Ramu used the gold wisely. He repaired his house, bought better seeds, and helped other poor farmers during hard seasons. He remained simple and kind, just as before.

In time, Ramu's fields became green, and his life improved. The villagers respected him not for his wealth, but for his honesty.

Moral: True wealth comes from honesty and hard work, not from riches alone.
