Chapter 27 - The Performance, The Ink, and The Snapped Quill

The Lavender Pact was officially enacted at ten o'clock the following morning in the Sun Parlor.

Before entering, Kaia and Beckett stood in the hallway, treating the doorway like the beachhead of a military invasion.

"Alright," Kaia whispered, adjusting the lace cuffs of her rose-colored morning gown. "Remember the strategy. Lots of eye contact. Mild giggling. If you feel yourself starting to panic because we are too close, just think about Captain Thorne's broad shoulders."

Beckett swallowed hard, adjusting his cravat. "Broad shoulders. Right. And if you feel like you are going to be sick because I am not my brother, just think about... well, whatever it is you think about."

"Whiskey," Kaia said firmly. "I will think about whiskey. Ready?"

"Ready."

Beckett offered his arm. Kaia looped hers through it, pressing closer than was strictly necessary, and they walked into the Sun Parlor.
