Chapter 6 - I don’t know, but I can only hope

Rocky glanced around in excitement.

"Let's go, Bobby."

Just like that, a tiny humanoid beast jumped off his shoulder, enlarging itself into a beast nearly 3 meters tall.

Rocky looked at his beast and summoned the system screen.

Name: Bobby

Race: Ancient Ape

Compatibility: 100%

Species Rank: Calamity

Level: 1

Unique Skill: Basic Swordsmanship, Void Forging

Current Preferred Mana Core: Fire Slime's mana core

Current Mood: Wants to sleep on the tallest tree

Rocky scratched his head in confusion while reading the description in front of him.

Bobby wanted fire slime mana cores. Well, he could say that was hard to come by in this low-quality green dungeon.

Not only were they hard to find, but a level 1 beast didn't have enough strength to fight them either.

Why didn't his beast choose an easier prey than fire slimes?

Well, he should follow Bobby's preferences if he wanted him to level up faster. However, if he did find a fire slime lair, he'd also need to find the tallest tree in the dungeon.

He would let Bobby fight only when he wanted to. If he forced him while he was in a bad mood, the efficiency of leveling up would face a lot of obstacles.

Plus, if Bobby wasn't in the mood to fight, that meant he was in a state of inspiration to develop or create new skills.

(I don't know, but I can only hope.)

3 hours later, after finding the tallest tree in the dungeon, Bobby climbed up and took a nap.

Just like that, another 3 hours passed.

He summoned the system screen again.

Name: Bobby

Race: Ancient Ape

Compatibility: 100%

Species Rank: Calamity

Level: 1

Unique Skill: Basic Swordsmanship, Void Forging

Current Preferred Mana Core: Fire Slime's mana core

Current Mood: wants to swim in a big lake.

Without hesitation, Rocky headed toward a big lake he could see in the dungeon. Ironically, he ran into Alex Stephens again, along with a lot of other students.

Meanwhile, the students' beasts were fighting goblins nearby, while Alex's gilded bull was happily eating grass.

Rocky wasn't too surprised. The gilded bull was one of the beasts his clan had researched a lot in the past.

Sure, with knowledge from the great Clan, Alex could easily know some of the beast's traits, but it was still limited. After all, they couldn't read a beast's thoughts. Just relying on reactions and some old experience from books was not enough.

Of course, there were some genius people who could read beasts at a glance. Unfortunately, he wasn't one of them, even though he was already the first son of the great Clan.

Rocky sat cross-legged on a rock, watching his beast swim.

"Look at that! His beast is swimming?" a student said, looking at Rocky and the fur ape.

Another student answered, "Maybe he knows what his beast is thinking… if so, he must be a genius at raising beasts."

Alex, nearby, just frowned.

"Tch, he's just useless trash at raising beasts. His stupid dog already got beheaded by my young lord… that's proof of his inferior raising ability. And now his beast is a new race from the black zone with calamity rank—there's no way he can read a beast's thoughts."

"He should've chosen a beast with a Feral species rank like his previous dog. At least then his beast could grow a bit," Alex mocked.

For sure, if Rocky didn't have the system, a beast with a low species rank would've been a good choice. Even without powerful skills and with limits on future leveling, at least such a beast could still reach an average level in the world.

Choosing a calamity-rank beast without any knowledge about it—trash raising ability—was basically shooting himself in the foot.

Atlas, even with a Feral species rank, had refused him. He had no choice but to tame Bobby.

He could tell it was fate.

 —

"Yes! That's it." Rocky smirked as he gazed at the system screen. He didn't expect his beast could create such an awesome skill.

From what he knew, normally a beast needed at least six months to create a skill, and that was only if the beast tamer was a genius.

Yet now, it had only taken half a day to achieve that.

Then he glanced toward the hunting zone where none of the students were left. It seemed they had already moved to another place to continue killing monsters.

"Guess their beast has already surpassed mine on some level, but it's just temporary."

He smirked while looking at the system screen.

"Royal slime?"

That choice of Bobby's was even more dangerous than before. Royal slimes stood at the top of the food chain, making them some of the toughest enemies for Bobby. Moreover, the number of royal slimes in the dungeon was quite low.

After all, if there were too many of them, the rest of the monsters would've already been wiped out.

"Tch. Bobby, you're really a different beast… but I guess that's a unique trait every calamity-rank species must have."

Rocky ordered Bobby to shrink down into a tiny form and perch on his shoulder. Then, the next moment, he headed straight toward the middle of the dungeon, where the royal slime horde lived.

"What the fuck is that guy doing? Why doesn't he let his beast fight monsters? We've almost cleared the dungeon, but his beast hasn't fought anything yet?" a student mocked.

Alex smirked.

"Let him be. He's a disgrace to the Stephen Clan. A trash beast tamer doesn't deserve a place in a great Clan."
