Chapter 8 - Part Of You

Mina didn't know what to feel. She'd come home to her parents watching the news, it was just like any other normal day, until she saw her friend decimate a villain on live television, before he proceeded to threaten a pro hero and dipping afterwards.

The Windows error sound was literally what her brain did the instant she recognized his face. Maya glanced at her daughter, as the television showed the news commentators discussing about Sukuna, in a way that made both mother and daughter uncomfortable.

Her daughter had a blank stare, something she hadn't seen in ages. "Mina? You alright?" She called out, patting her pink daughter's shoulder.

"I'm peachy mom... Just... Wow..." Mina whispered. This was literally the universe just confirming what she always suspected, that he's built different, morally and metaphysically. She felt a little pride welling up in her chest, he did what everyone else froze up on.

But now, he had turned into a controversy, a debate topic for adults who've never met him. She felt bad for him, he only did the right thing, why does it have to turn into a debate on law? But it wasn't that big of a problem, it'll die down like all cases do.

"He didn't tell me about this..." She vividly remembered the black markings across his face and the second pair of eyes. He told her his Quirk was just a simple power boosting Quirk, not whatever this was.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang, startling both mother and daughter. Maya looked at Mina, raising an eyebrow, already having a guess on who the visitor was. "Really Mina? You told him to come here?"

"W-well someone has to scold him for being reckless!" Mina defended. Maya laughed, shaking her head as she went upstairs.

"I'll leave you two to it. Don't go too far now, lioness." Maya winked as Mina huffed, walking towards the door and opening it.

And there he was, her best friend, with his signature unreadable expression and the hands in the pockets. She immediately grabbed his arm, dragging him in without saying a word.

'Someone's eager to talk.' Sukuna thought as he quickly took off his shoes, being dragged into the living room. It was a nice house, but there was just too much pink for his liking. Mina pressed on his shoulders, forcing him to sit on the couch before sitting with him, before she slapped his arm.

"What's that for?" Sukuna raised an eyebrow at her. Mina crossed her arms, pouting at him.

"Wanna explain why you turned into a comic book vigilante on live TV?"

"Just a spur of the moment thing..." Sukuna replied, rubbing the back of his neck. Mina pouted harder. This clearly wasn't the time for him to be nonchalant.

"And why didn't you tell me?"

"About what?"

"About your Quirk!" She pointed at him. "Don't you think it'd be sus when you gave me a half ass reply that day when I asked about it? It stings you know... finding out through television... you trusted the world with this before you trusted me..." She whispered, hurt in her voice. Sukuna's mouth was open, not knowing what to reply.

Sukuna, ever the antisocial boy, did not understand why it was such a big deal, people do keep secrets sometimes.

"And you know how I am, you know that I won't freak out. I thought we were in this together. I know you didn't hide it to be edgy or distant or anything, it's just I want to tell you that I'd like to be in your life more, and that you're not alone." She stated seriously before cracking a smile.

"Now that I realize. You're kinda bad at this, ya know? The whole… letting people be close thing." She commented, as Sukuna tilted his head. Was he really? In his mind he is letting her be close. He talks to her, trusts her and he doesn't lie.

"I don't mean secrets, but like when big stuff, like your Quirk, happens. I don't wanna find out from a TV commentator with bad hair. I wanna be in your life more. Not just the normal and silly parts." She muttered, her hand found its way on his shoulder. Sukuna's eyes were wide. This confession, it sounded like Mina wanted something more with him.

He closed his eyes, shutting the thought away, Mina definitely didn't mean it like that. She just doesn't want him to drift into solitude with people who see him as a tool, a symbol, or a threat. She wants to stay with him, through thick and thin.

"I see.... I'm sorry for not considering your feelings before. I didn't think about how it would affect you. I'll try my best for you."

Mina smiled, shaking her head as she patted his shoulder. " It's alright, what's done is done. And I'm glad that you care. It's okay if you're bad at people stuff, I don't care. I accept this version of you, I'd accept any version of you, because no one is perfect." She smiled sweetly at him. Sukuna found himself staring at her smile.

"Just... tell me next time before the world does, okay?" Sukuna nodded silently, as they stared at each other silently. It was then Mina broke out in a laugh, playfully slapping his arm.

"Wow! That was very heavy wasn't it? I didn't know I could be serious like that! It's like we're in a K-drama!" Mina laughed. Sukuna found himself smiling as he stared at her, her laugh made him feel good inside.

"H-hey... Do I got something on my face or something? You've been staring for a while..." Sukuna blinked, as he regained his senses, staring at an embarrassed Mina, shyly looking up at him.

"Sorry..." Sukuna muttered as Mina smirked, regaining composure and not wanting him to feel bad.

"Were you mesmerized at the sight of me?~ Hmm?~ Were you?~" Mina teased, her face getting a little closer to him. Sukuna glanced away, knowing full well she was smiling like a cheshire cat.

"Something like that I guess..." He muttered back. Now Mina was surprised. Her pink cheeks having a small red tint to them at his compliment.

"Y-you're getting too good at this..." She muttered, not matching his gaze. Sukuna raised an eyebrow.

" Too good at what? You told me to be truthful with you, so I'm doing just that."

"W-well..." Mina wanted to correct him, that what she meant a few minutes ago was supposed to be used in a different context, not the one he thought, but stopped herself. Why does she need to repair something that's already fixed?

"Ahem! Anyways, care to tell me what your quirk's all about?" She requested. Sukuna hummed, thinking of a way to explain it in layman terms to her. Mina wasn't a fan of long explanations after all.

"For starters, my Quirk's name is called Demon King." He began. Mina whistled at the name. She understood why he'd hide information containing his quirk, with a name like that, he's bound to attract the wrong kind of attention.

"If I were to simplify it, it would be quirks within a singular Quirk."

"Hold up what? Dude that's so overpowered!" Mina stared at him in disbelief, her mouth agape. She then questioned him.

"So I take it that super strength is one of them?" Sukuna nodded before the intrigued Mina continued asking, her curiosity about her friend rising.

"What else is there?"

"Currently I do have one more... And no Mina I won't be demonstrating it here." Sukuna immediately shut the pink girl down, knowing what she was going to ask. Mina huffed, pouting.

"Spoilsport..." She grumbled. He only smirked in return.

"So how do you unlock more of them? You said you currently only have one when there's more." Mina continued. Sukuna sighed, patting his pockets before reaching in one of them. Mina immediately backed up as she saw him take out a disgusting rotting finger.

" Ew! What is that! Did you cut off someone's finger?!"

"Calm down, Mina. This is the catalyst that makes me able to unlock more of my powers. It appears randomly throughout my life, specifically after major events. This one appeared after I caused a scene with that slime villain."

"O-oh... I see..." Mina slowly returned to where she sat, eyeing the finger warily.

"Still disgusting though..."

"Well you're not the one eating it so relax." Sukuna shook his head, placing the finger back into his pocket. He was definitely not trying to get kicked out of her house by eating it in front of her.

Mina made a mock barfing expression. "Eugh, so glad I'm not you." She stared back at him before giggling a little.

"See? Telling me about it wasn't that bad right?" Sukuna shrugged.

"I do feel a little lighter." He admitted. She smiled at him, reaching out to him and patting his shoulder.

"From now on, you can tell me anything okay? I'm always here for you, even if... even if you don't want me to. That's what friends are for." She vowed. Sukuna stared before he smiled softly, nodding in return.

"Thank you, Mina. I truly am glad I got to know you."

"So like when's the wedding?" Both teens looked at Maya smirking at them with a knowing look. Sukuna glanced, notice Mina's face becoming pure red.

"M-MOM! LEAVE US ALONE!!"

"Ehe!~"

Yeah, Sukuna definitely doesn't regret anything...
