Chapter 21 - Democratic Vote

(Man y'all really are scared of Kaori. Relax it's not like I'm gonna turn her into a Nomu or something.)

...

Mina and Sukuna shared a silent walk home. Sometimes, nothing needs to be spoken as the company of one another was enough for the both of them.

Mina noticed Izuku sitting on a bench, his eyes staring emptily into the distance. He winced, rubbing the giant bruise on his face from Sukuna's backhanded fist. while having a cast on his arm that was used to almost pulverize Mina. The green haired boy them noticed the pair, before quickly looking away, silently panicking.

"Don't mind him..." Sukuna began when Mina was about to say something. The two walked past Izuku, ignoring him.

"I know you're expecting me to give him a helping hand, but not this time. His Quirk is his responsibility, not ours." At his words, Mina took another glance back at Izuku, the kind girl can't help but be a little worried.

"Guess so..."

...

"Bro, guess what happened when I was on my way to school!" Kirishima started as he sat down n his seat. Sukuna grunted, focusing on his textbook.

"I got interviewed by the press. Seems that All Might entering UA is a pretty big deal for Japan." The red head explained before continuing.

"Even Mina got interviewed too. There was like a horde of reporters though, so we had to run away before they all surrounded us!"

"Good thing I used my Quirk then." Sukuna muttered, having disappeared the moment he noticed the crowd of reporters near the gates of the campus.

"Ugh! There you are! You know how many there was outside?!" Mina groaned, her body slumping down on the desk as she sat down. Momo hid her laugh behind her hand.

"Sounds like they gave you a hard time, Mina." She stated. Mina groaned louder.

"Oh it's more than that! You wouldn't believe how many of them asked me stupidly unrelated questions! Ugh! Interviews are so tiring! I never wanna do them again!" She declared. Aizawa walked in at the perfect moment, hearing Mina's declaration on time.

"Complain all you want, but unfortunately it's an essential part of being a pro hero no matter how much you want to escape it." He began briefly before placing a stack of paper on the front desk, standing before his students.

"I hope you all are well rested from yesterday. I took the liberty to look at the evaluations All Might gave for you all." He explained, holding up the stack of paper, containing detailed reviews from the number one Hero himself.

"Now I am not going to pull my punches here, so don't expect me to coddle you with my words. Bakugo, Midoriya, I am very dissatisfied with your performance. You two are the very examples of what not to do during team missions. I'll start with you first..." Aizawa stared at Bakugo who gritted his teeth a little.

"Stop acting like you're still 7 years old. If you like being one so much, guess I can expell you and enroll you into a kindergarten instead. You're wasting your own potential, plain and simple. Your Quirk is impressive. Your attitude is not. I'm not allowing you to be an impulsive brat who can't control their emotions and becoming a walking natural disaster. Fix it, or get left behind. It's that simple."

"Tch..." Bakugo looked down silently, fists clenched tightly. Without a second glance, Aizawa turned his attention towards Izuku who gulped, not looking forward to the scolding at all.

"And you, Midoriya. How many times do I have to explain it to you before you understand? You'll never get far in this department if you keep treating your Quirk like some martyrdom aesthetic." He narrowed his eyes further.

"Work on it or leave the Department of Heroes. It's that simple. Heroes who can't regulate themselves are liabilities, and I'm not having safety hazards as my students." He sent a small apologetic glance at Mina who smiled a little in return, showing that she took zero offense to what Izuku did.

"Am I clear?"

"Yes sir..." Izuku sighed out. He was honestly expecting to be expelled on the spot for that stunt of his. But he was given another chance to redeem himself, and he certainly won't take it for granted.

"Now that that's out of the way, you all did fairly well. But that's not enough, there's plenty of room for improvement, and I expect you all to keep pushing yourselves. When it comes to quirks, there is always room for improvement." Aizawa continued as he handed out the evaluation papers to them.

"We have another agenda on ours hands today. And that is..." Aizawa wrote the word 'vote' on the whiteboard before turning to class 1-A.

"Voting for a class president." He declared in his monotonous voice. The class cheered.

"Finally, something school like!" Sero grinned, already having some worthy candidates in mind. Aizawa sighed, not really understanding why they were so hyped about student government. To him, this was just a harmless ritual to teach children social structure.

The truth is, being a class president in the department of heroes doesn't make one powerful. One is just a glorified task manager who gets blamed when anything goes wrong.

"I suggest we decide by voting!" Ida raised his hand. "The true leader will emerge from a democratic choice reflecting the will of the people!" He declared.

"Of course Ida'd be the one who takes it seriously." Jiro snorted a little, shaking her head a little. Tsuyu raised her hand a little.

"We've only known each other for about two weeks, how do we know who we can trust to take up the mantle? And besides, everyone's going to vote for themselves." She countered. Ida smirked and nodded.

"No worries, Asui—"

"Thought I told you to call me Tsu."

"Ahem. Apologies, Tsu..." Ida rubbed his neck, face red in embarrassment from the blunder.

"But your argument actually supports my point, does it not? The person who gets the most votes would mean that they are a trustworthy figure in class by most of us and an appropriate class president."

"Hmm, I guess so... Should we start voting now?" Tsuyu turned to Aizawa for permission. Their teacher shrugged, pulling out his yellow sleeping bag, old reliable.

"Knock yourselves out. Just be done by the end of this period."

And with that, the voting session started.

...

"Oi... Is this some kind of sick joke?" Sukuna muttered, staring at the class who has their hands raised up.

His name had came up in the voting session. And almost immediately everyone had raised their hands, even Bakugo who didn't vote for a single person the whole time. The quiet kids, Tokoyami, Todoroki, Shoji and Koda, had their hands confidently raised up high too, voting for the pink haired boy.

"Why the hell are you guys voting for me? Shouldn't it be someone like Ida?" Sukuna questioned them, Momo being the one who answered him after a short pause.

"Because you are predictable in the ways that matter." He blinked at that.

She continued, hands folding, her demeanor calm. "You don't act for popularity. You don't escalate conflicts for attention. When you decide something is necessary, you do it, and you accept responsibility for it. That makes people feel safe in a way, even if the way you go about it is unsettling at times."

Then she added. "You are also a great listener even though you don't look like the type. You actually change your behavior when presented with better information. Most leaders don't do that, even most adults don't do that."

Then her tone became soft. " And I think people sensed that you would never use this position for yourself. You don't care about status, which in turn would make status safer in your hands."

" You don't know that." Sukuna narrowed his eyes, she in turn raised an eyebrow at him.

"We didn't choose you because you're the strongest. We chose you because when something goes wrong, you are the person who will willingly step up and accept being blamed."

"Again... You don't know that." Sukuna sighed. Momo smiled a little.

"Really now? You really think Mina wouldn't spill some things about you to us girls?"

Sukuna blinked, before he deadpanned at Mina who grinned at him, giving him the peace sign while sticking out her tongue.

"Oops~ Hehe!~"

"What I'm saying is that you look like someone who will hold the system together without pretending it's perfect, and I think honesty is what the class needs, not pretty white lies." Momo stated, as some of the students nodded in agreement.

"Well.... Since you're so trusting of me." He grinned evilly at her. The instant he grinned, Momo could tell something was wrong.

"All in favor of having Momo as the vice president?"

"Wait wha—"

Immediately after, all of Class 1-A raised their hands up high. Momo widened her eyes in disbelief, stunned at his announcement.

"Well, that settles it. You're my second in command now."

"Eh... ehhhhhhhhh!!!!!!"
