Chapter 17 - Also Enjoying Internet Dividends

Early in the morning, Tsushima Kagami was shouted awake by Yukinoshita Shizuku.

"Why are you getting up so early?"

Tsushima Kagami asked Yukinoshita Shizuku, who was beside him, while yawning.

"Have you forgotten? Today Shincho goes on sale."

"So what?"

"Of course we have to go buy it now."

"Isn't it the same if we buy it after school?"

"What if it's sold out by then?"

"How is that possible!"

"Enough, hurry up and go wash up."

After speaking, Yukinoshita Shizuku pushed Tsushima Kagami toward the bathroom.

...

Inside Fujiwara Bookstore.

Store Manager Fujiwara, who was reading a newspaper, looked up and exclaimed in surprise, "Tanaka-san, why are you here so early today? Have you completely turned into a piece of trash?"

Tanaka Toneri was not dressed in his usual suit and leather shoes today; instead, he wore casual clothes as he arrived at Store Manager Fujiwara's bookstore.

Tanaka Toneri simply walked up to Store Manager Fujiwara with a smile, bowed deeply, and handed over a document of unknown contents with both hands.

"Please take a look, Fujiwara-san."

"What is this?"

Store Manager Fujiwara asked in confusion as he took the report-like object.

"These are various reports on customer profiles and book sales categories that I have observed during this period."

After hearing this, Store Manager Fujiwara began to flip through it.

The report contained a rough statistical breakdown of the profiles of customers who usually visited the store. It detailed which demographic the majority of customers belonged to, followed by secondary groups, and consequently, which corresponding books the bookstore should stock more of to increase the probability of purchase.

It also included statistics on the types of books purchased by the majority of people observed during these days.

There was even an analysis of where most customers would walk first after entering and where they would first pick up books to browse, suggesting that some popular recommended books and periodicals should be placed there as a recommendation spot.

There were also various suggestions and methods on how to better sell books.

Since this bookstore was Store Manager Fujiwara's private business, it naturally didn't have a complete, standardized, and effective management model like those chain bookstores.

Usually, he was quite casual and didn't pay much attention to these issues, as long as the shop could keep running without going bankrupt.

When he finished reading this entire set of reports, he felt that it could indeed effectively improve the bookstore's turnover.

So, he put down the report and looked at Tanaka Toneri. "So, what do you mean by this, Tanaka-san?"

Tanaka Toneri immediately bowed deeply again. "I hope Fujiwara-san can give me a chance. I will definitely help you manage the bookstore better!"

"Actually, last night while you were reading magazines, my clerk happened to call me to say he plans to quit."

"I originally wanted to ask if you wanted to try this job since I saw you idling around every day, but you just ran off immediately."

"But now, I feel I underestimated you. So, Tanaka-san, are you willing to come and work at my bookstore?"

"Yes, I am willing."

"Then go get changed quickly."

"Yes!"

...

After changing his clothes and receiving some instructions on important matters from the manager, Tanaka Toneri quickly entered his role.

Just then, Tsushima Kagami and Yukinoshita Shizuku walked in.

Seeing the two looking for something as soon as they entered, Tanaka Toneri stepped forward and asked, "May I ask what books you are looking to purchase?"

Yukinoshita Shizuku immediately asked, "Excuse me, do you have the latest issue of Shincho?"

"Ah, Shincho. It's over here."

Once Yukinoshita Shizuku and Tsushima Kagami were led to a row of bookshelves, they saw the latest issue of Shincho displayed there.

She grabbed a copy directly, opened it, and started flipping through it until she finally saw the story Cheesecake. Only then did she shake Tsushima Kagami's shoulder. "Look, look, your Cheesecake really made it into Shincho!"

"Isn't this something we already knew?"

Tsushima Kagami yawned listlessly.

"It was on manuscript paper before, but now it's really in Shincho; it feels different."

Yukinoshita Shizuku was as excited as if her own article had been published in Shincho.

"Um, excuse me, did you just say that this Cheesecake, written under the pen name Master of Tassaiya, was written by this customer?"

Tanaka Toneri looked at the young boy and girl before him in disbelief and asked in surprise.

Yukinoshita Shizuku affirmed, "Yes. I'll take two copies; please wrap them for me."

"O-Okay, please wait a moment."

After Tanaka Toneri settled the bill for Yukinoshita Shizuku, he watched the two about to leave with the books and finally called out to stop them.

"Um, could I ask Master of Tassaiya to sign an autograph for me?"

"Although you might not understand, I happened to read your Cheesecake last night. It could be said that if not for it, the current me would not be standing here."

Tanaka Toneri produced a copy of Shincho from somewhere and bowed to Tsushima Kagami, requesting the autograph.

"Of course." Tsushima Kagami took Tanaka Toneri's Shincho and a marker pen. He signed his name and pen name on the book cover, the title page, and the page of his Cheesecake story, before finally handing it back to Tanaka Toneri, who received it with both hands.

"Thank you. I will definitely treasure this for a lifetime, and I will definitely support your works in the future!"

"Thank you for your future support as well."

Tsushima Kagami returned a bow, then left the bookstore with Yukinoshita Shizuku.

...

After school.

Tsushima Kagami and the people from the Manga Research Club drew until the school was about to close before leaving. Afterwards, Tsushima Kagami went to the place where Yukinoshita Shizuku started her part-time job, waiting until she got off work so they could go back together.

As soon as the two arrived home and opened the door, they heard the telephone ringing in the living room.

Yukinoshita Shizuku trotted over to answer the phone. "Moshi moshi, this is the Yukinoshita household."

"Ah, is that Shizuku-chan? Is Kagami-kun near you? Put him on the phone."

"It's Kobayashi-san. Kagami is right next to me; I'll let him answer."

Tsushima Kagami curiously took the phone. "Hello, this is Yukinoshita Kagami. Is something the matter, Kobayashi-san?"

"Kagami-kun, you still don't know?"

"Know what?"

There was a faintly suppressible excitement in Kobayashi Tomoaki's tone; he didn't even address him as Yukinoshita-sensei, but called him Kagami-kun directly.

"Today's Shincho has already sold out! We are currently rushing an emergency reprint overnight!"

"Does that have anything to do with me?"

"Sorry, I didn't explain clearly. Last night, it seems some bookstore staff member read your Cheesecake in advance and posted an article about your Cheesecake on the internet. It ended up getting super high clicks and replies. It was reposted by Yahoo this morning, and then the major print media followed up. The Shincho copies that were just distributed last night were completely sold out by this afternoon!"

After finishing the call, Tsushima Kagami finally opened the system panel in his mind.

He saw the Pure Love Points column change directly from the previous 2 points to 2000+.

For a monthly magazine like Shincho with sales of hundreds of thousands or even over a million copies, the daily supply is generally around 20,000 to 50,000 copies.

After all, Cheesecake wasn't a story specifically about romance. To be able to convert 2000+ Pure Love Value in a single day was already considered a very high conversion rate. Moreover, he hadn't even thought that Cheesecake could generate Pure Love Points.

Does this count as me cashing in on the internet boom?

Just then, another prompt popped up in his mind.
