Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Intruder

"Haha... Finally, something interesting. It's evolved from a gladiator arena to a game of tag."

Accelerator watched the Misaka Sister escape with a murderous smile. It felt like finding a hidden Easter egg in a boring video game.

However, this joy was fleeting. It was quickly overshadowed by annoyance.

Misaka 9982, clutching her bleeding arm where the reflected shrapnel had sliced her, stumbled toward the abandoned chemical factory.

"Based on 9,981 previous experiments... Misaka concludes that firearms and explosives have no effect on Accelerator. Do, Misaka is attempting to find a new tactical solution."

Accelerator strolled after her, hands in his pockets, uttering cruel words with nonchalant ease.

"But you run too slow."

He stomped his foot gently.

CRACK.

The weak kinetic energy of the stomp was instantly amplified by his Vector Manipulation. The concrete ground shattered into countless jagged stones.

"Go."

With a thought, he reversed their gravity vectors and launched them forward.

Whoosh!

The stones shot through the air like bullets, catching up to the fleeing clone instantly.

A rock the size of a basketball slammed into her back.

"Gah!"

Misaka 9982 was sent flying into a cluster of rusted chemical pipes.

CLANG!

The pipes bent under the impact. The barrage of stones followed, slamming into the walls, the ground, and the pipes, creating a deafening explosion of dust and debris.

Smoke enveloped the factory floor, making the scene look like a war zone.

In the haze, Misaka 9982 fell to the ground. She coughed up a mouthful of blood. Her legs refused to move.

Her pupils trembled as she watched the slender figure walking through the smoke.

Step... Step...

"Tch. I thought there would be a twist. But it's still the same ending. So boring."

Accelerator looked at the broken girl with zero interest. He picked his ear with his pinky finger and grinned.

"Can killing 20,000 puppets really make me a Level 6?"

"Misaka... failed to accurately grasp the opponent's abilities... failed to assess the environment... Do..."

She struggled to push herself up, but her arms gave out, and she collapsed again.

Accelerator stood over her.

"So, what should we do with you now? The usual method? Or do you want a new menu option?"

He tilted his head, his red eyes filled with madness.

"Blood flow reversal? That makes you explode like a balloon. Or maybe... bio-electricity manipulation?"

"Although this experiment is boring, you dolls have taught me that there are infinite ways to break a human body."

For him, battles weren't about winning. They were one-sided slaughters.

His ability, Vector Manipulation, allowed him to control the magnitude and direction of any energy that touched his skin—kinetic, thermal, electrical, nuclear.

With a flick of a finger, a pebble became a railgun. He didn't need martial arts. He just needed to touch you.

"Now... I'll set you free. Hehehe..."

Accelerator squatted down. He reached out a pale finger toward Misaka 9982.

"Let's try bio-electricity. If I reverse the current in your nerves and amplify the vector... will you cook from the inside out?"

Misaka 9982 stared at the finger inching closer. She coughed up more blood and closed her eyes, awaiting death.

"Misaka..."

"You guys really need to upgrade your durability. I'm dying of boredom here—"

Step... Step...

Footsteps echoed in the silent chemical plant.

Accelerator's finger stopped inches from the clone's face.

"Oh my, oh my! Look what I've found!"

A teasing, mischievous voice cut through the tension.

Accelerator stood up slowly, his expression blank. He put his hands back in his pockets and turned to look at the intruder standing under the streetlight.

A boy in a standard high school uniform. White shirt. Messy black hair. Unremarkable.

"...Tsk. Hey. In this situation, does the experiment continue?"

Accelerator muttered to himself, genuinely confused.

"Usually, in this kind of scenario, the intruder is supposed to be eliminated to cover up the evidence, right?"

This was a first. He had killed 9,981 clones, but no civilian had ever wandered into the kill zone before.

According to the Level 6 Shift secrecy protocols, witnesses had to be silenced.

Misaka 9982 opened her eyes. She struggled to lift her head.

"Do... Unrelated civilian... Run..."

Accelerator ignored her. He looked at Yuuya with annoyance.

"Looks like you brought a spectator, doll. Are you expecting me to perform the standard 'Secret Discovered' script?"

He spoke loudly, his voice dripping with malice. Usually, normal people would scream and run away upon seeing a blood-soaked monster standing over a girl.

But this boy didn't run.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

"Oh my! Tsk tsk. This scene is so familiar!"

Yuuya applauded slowly, walking closer. His face wore a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"Is this the legendary 'Academy City Bullying'? This is a real eye-opener for me."

He stopped ten meters away. His gaze flickered to the broken form of Misaka 9982. For a split second, his eyes turned cold as ice.

'I made it just in time. Ten seconds later, and she would be dead.'

He quickly masked his anger with a twisted grin.

"This looks like such an interesting game. Can I participate too?"

"Huh?"

Accelerator tilted his head, genuinely baffled.

"You want to join?"

In this situation, instead of running from the murderer, this guy walked towards him with a smile?

'Is he insane? Or just stupid?'

"What are you laughing at?" Yuuya asked, his voice dripping with excitement. "I've encountered something so fun! I'm practically an expert in bullying girls. How about we team up?"

He stepped into the light, his smirk mirroring Accelerator's own madness.

"I've been looking for a punching bag all day."
