The girl's long white hair was like mist, spilling over the pillow in soft silver strands, the morning light skimming across it until each thread seemed to glow.
Even though her eyes were tightly shut, her lashes were wet and heavy, as if she'd just made it through a sweet storm that had been no less than crazed.
Her body was bare, not a single scrap of cloth covering her, and the red bruises on her collarbone, neck, and chest were still fresh, stark against skin as white as snow.
She lay on her side, lips slightly swollen as if she'd been kissed far too many times, hands clutching the blanket as if searching for something to hold onto. The pride was still there, only softened by exhaustion.
