Kade stood perfectly still, watching her destroy his boardroom piece by piece, making no move to stop her.
Dakota grabbed a crystal pitcher, water sloshing over her hands.
"I treated Maya like she was everything to me!" The pitcher flew, exploded, and soaked the carpet. "I loved her! I *protected* her! When we were kids and she had nightmares, I was the one who stayed up with her! When she was scared of the dark, I was the one who kept the light on! When other pack kids bullied her for being too perfect, too pretty, too smart, I was the one who fought them!"
Her voice was breaking apart now, fragmenting like the dishes.
"I was her *sister*!" Dakota screamed, and the sound echoed off the walls, bouncing back at her and mocking her. "Her best friend! The person she told everything to! And today, today she looked at me like I was a stranger! Like I was the enemy! Like I was nothing!"
