"Kade, you brought the wrong child. This isn't my Cooper. My Cooper doesn't look like this." Her voice became increasingly desperate as she shook her head. "We need to go and find my son. Please, Kade, we need to find him."

"Dakota..."

"I know my son." Her eyes filled with tears as she looked back toward the unconscious child. "I saw him two months ago. He was healthy. He was beautiful and full of life. This can't happen. A child doesn't just change into this."

She tightened her grip around Kade's hands and began pulling him away from the trolley.

"Come on. Let's go find him."

Kade didn't resist her immediately. He had known this moment might come, but knowing it and witnessing it were two entirely different things. The boy lying before them bore little resemblance to the healthy child Dakota remembered, and the effects of the witchcraft, prolonged neglect, and everything Cooper had endured had changed him profoundly.
