Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Mike's Cruelty

There were a few pack members sitting around the living room watching television and eating popcorn and other snacks.

They had thrown garbage in every spot one could see and others you would have to search with a light to find. Yet you couldn't not find them.

I immediately got to work.

I went to the utility room and took out a broom, a scrubbing brush, a bucket, and other cleaning tools.

I had to start in the living room before moving to other rooms.

I swept and mopped from the corners towards the door, avoiding the places where the people watching TV were seated.

But I eventually had to clean there too.

So I walked over politely and began gathering the snacks strewn all over the place.

My intention was to collect them in one place, wipe the table, and arrange them on the table for them.

Yet the act of touching a bag of chips got me into trouble.

"Why did you touch my chips with those cheap hands? Are you trying to steal my snacks?" Anita went into rage as soon as I touched the chips. Anyone could tell that she had been waiting for this moment.

I knew who this was. She was a close friend of Innocent and without a doubt, she must have been put up to this by Innocent.

Since Innocent was afraid of angering Mike, she had enlisted the help of her little followers to help her vent her anger.

"I am just trying to clean up." I replied softly.

"Clean up? More like cleaning everything into your stomach. You must never have seen such expensive snacks, right? You want to taste such expensive snacks yet can't afford them. If you wanted a taste all you had to do was ask. No need to steal." Anita continued to slander me without a care.

The others in the living room knew what was going on, but they all kept quiet as if they weren't there.

Anita was Innocent's friend and everyone knew that Innocent was going to be Luna, so it was better not to cross the friend of the future Luna for a nobody.

"Like I said, I was just cleaning. I had no intention of taking your snacks." I emphasized my innocence, even though I knew that in this pack, it didn't matter that much.

"Are you calling me a liar?" Anita asked, raising her voice.

"That's not what I meant." I defended myself.

"Then what did you mean? Did you try to steal my chips or not?" Anita was forcing me to admit that I stole the snacks, because if I said I didn't, that would mean I was calling her a liar.

But if I admitted, then I would have another derogatory title on my head, a thief.

I took a deep breath and finally raised my head, looked straight into Anita's eyes and replied, "I didn't steal. I was moving your snacks from the table so that I could wipe it.

I don't care if you don't believe me."

This was the first time in eight years that I had straightened my back in front of someone.

It was the first time I had raised my head and spoke straight to someone's face.

Even though I knew what would come after that, I was done being their doormat.

If they had the ability they could kill me. Anyway, if I died, it was their future alpha who would suffer.

Since the mate bond was still there, if I died, he would not only suffer physical and emotional pain, but he would also lose part of his strength.

I wasn't going to let such a good opportunity pass me.

After I had answered Anita, who at that moment had her mouth wide open in shock, same as everyone else, I bent down and kept cleaning as if I was the only one there.

Anita's POV

I stood there in shock, my mouth wide open so much a duck egg could fit inside.

This was the first time I had even see Valerie's face clearly. She was always v

bent, always had her head lowered.

Even when we ganged up on her and beat her, she never raised her head to defend herself or fight back.

Today was the first time I had seen her clear but cold eyes. Her gaze was so biting it made my heart tremble.

What surprised me even more was the shock that one look gave my wolf. My wolf couldn't be said to be the biggest and fiercest in the pack, however, when facing a wolfless trash like Valerie, it was no problem scaring her into insanity.

Yet, today was the complete opposite. It was my wolf that had been scared into a dead faint by one look from Valerie .

How was that even possible?

I turned my head around to observe the others and found that some were shaking and others looking away.

I couldn't judge whether it was from the same terrifying feeling I had gotten from Valerie, or because they were afraid of offending me.

But what I felt was the kind of instinctive fear that even the alpha didn't give me and I was almost certain that the others had experienced the same.

However, after Valerie bent down and continued to clean, that feeling disappeared as if it had been an illusion and everyone just assumed they were hallucinating.

However, I wasn't fooled. That feeling had been too real. My still unconscious wolf was the best proof of that.

Too bad no one talked about it because they were all afraid of being seen as weaklings if they said they were afraid of the pack slave.

If they had talked about that feeling, then they would have known that it was not a hallucination. It had been real.

But I wasn't going to be the bearer of bad news. Moreover, from that brief encounter, I knew better than to mess with Valerie again.

It took me a full five minutes to come back to my senses.
