Chapter 11 - Echoes of the Past and a Shattered Identity

A single photograph, a hidden locket, and a past that refuses to stay buried. Just as Elina begins to uncover the dark history between her grandfather and the Smiths, a stunning confession at a wedding function threatens to tear the sisters apart forever. Will the truth set them free, or will it burn everything Elina has worked for to the ground?

Seeing the faint smile playing on David's lips, the government prosecutor asked, "What is it, David? Why do you smile at every turn?"David looked at the prosecutor with a strange, haunting gaze. No matter how much his lips smiled, if anyone were to look deep into his eyes, the sheer depth of his pain was undeniable. David closed his eyes once more and began to continue Elina's story...Upon learning of Elina's success, Lara was overjoyed. However, it was difficult to tell if her happiness stemmed from her daughter's achievements or if the greed for money was once again taking root in her heart.Lara turned to Elina and said, "Daughter, do not worry. You are the one who will marry David. Since the two of you love each other, this marriage is only right. I will handle Sharlin."But Elina looked at her mother and shook her head. "No, Mother. David can only belong to Sharlin. She has loved him since childhood. I will never come between them." With those words, Elina walked away with her grandfather. After Elina left, Lara immediately headed back to the hospital to be with Sharlin. The moment Elina reached home, David confronted her. "So, you're back from meeting your old lover?"His words sparked such a fury in Elina that she slapped him across the face. "If you ever say another disgusting word about that man, I will break your jaw," she hissed. "Get that through your head."She stormed off to her room. Jack, who had been watching everything from the shadows, followed her. Finding her in tears, he asked softly, "What happened, Elina? Why are you crying?"He sat beside her. "I know you love David, Elina. If you want, I'll go tell everyone right now that there is nothing between us but friendship. We don't have to get married; this whole thing is just an act. Should I go tell David the truth?"Overwhelmed, Elina threw her arms around Jack and sobbed. Being a good friend, Jack held her and tried to offer comfort. Just then, David appeared at the doorway, clapping his hands mockingly."What a scene!" he sneered, stepping into the room. "Laila and Majnu... truly a perfect pair. Elina, you are a brilliant actress; you deserve an award. On one hand, you've trapped an old man with your beauty, and on the other, you've got my brother fooled with your innocent 'love' talk. There isn't a woman more fallen than you in this world."Jack, incensed by David's words, moved toward him aggressively, but the tension was broken by David's grandmother. She entered the room and spoke in a grave voice."Elina, I need to speak with you. Come to my room this instant."Once in the room, the grandmother looked at her sternly. "Is what David said true? I saw you at the hospital that day, hugging Louis. What exactly is your relationship with him?"

Elina didn't offer an answer. She simply turned and left the room, the weight of the accusations heavy on her shoulders.Remembering everything her grandfather had told her, Elina called him. When he picked up, she asked, "Grandfather, that day at the hospital, why was there so much anger in your eyes when you saw that elderly person? I didn't have the courage to ask then, and I thought I'd ask later, but finding my mother made me overlook it. If you don't want to tell me, I won't force you."Her grandfather sighed. "Elina, that person is the grandmother of your sister Salina's husband. They are the ones who set fire to our company. It's because of that family that Suzi is no longer in this world. If I had known you were marrying into that same family, I would have never allowed it. But the marriage happened... and since you are already divorcing David, I didn't think it was necessary to tell you. Just get the divorce and come back to me. All the tension will be gone."Elina's heart hammered in her chest. "Grandfather, Suzi was married into this house... what was her husband's name?""Jack Smith," her grandfather replied."I'll talk to you later, Grandfather," Elina said and hung up. She walked straight to Jack. "Jack, can I ask you how your wife died?"Jack looked startled, and tears quickly welled in his eyes. "My wife had a condition. The doctors said if she ever got pregnant, her life would be in danger. We decided we would never have children and would spend our lives just as we were. But the news was a shock to her. In her grief, she jumped into the river and took her own life. Ours was a love marriage, and neither of our families ever accepted it. That's why we lived in a house far away from them."Hearing this, Elina began to cry. She stepped closer to him. "I'm sorry... I can still see the love you have for her in your eyes."She retreated to her room. Days later, after Sharlin had recovered, a function was organized at the house for David and Sharlin's wedding. The entire Smith house was adorned with flowers, the lights making the mansion glow brilliantly.Elina sat quietly in a corner, hiding her love for David deep within her heart. Lara approached her and hugged her, offering words of consolation and repeatedly begging for forgiveness. From a distance, Sharlin saw her mother and Elina together. She walked toward them, catching only fragments of their conversation. Confused and suspicious, she asked her mother, "What is going on here? And what lies are you feeding my mother, Elina?"Lara turned to Sharlin, her voice firm. "Enough, Sharlin! You cannot speak to Elina like that. Elina is your sister. Your own flesh and blood. And I... I am Elina's mother."Sharlin recoiled as if struck. "What? Elina... my sister?"
