"Damn it!"
Haru's angry shout echoed through the corridors near the infirmary, a voice charged with fury and frustration. If not for that, any zombie in the area would have undoubtedly been drawn to it, but the room was completely empty of them at that moment.
However…
The shout was not without effect at all. It attracted the attention of other nearby humans. More specifically, a girl who was walking through the corridors, holding a bokken in her hand, suddenly stopped upon hearing the sound. Her gaze was sharp and alert, as if expecting a confrontation, while her body was tensed, ready for any emergency.
The girl was beautiful, with straight, shiny thigh-length purple hair that had a triangular fringe at the front barely touching the ridge of her nose, blue eyes, and lips that had a shiny pink appearance.
She was Busujima Saeko, one of the most beautiful students in the school, known to everyone not just for her beauty, but also for her status as the president of the Kendo Club. Her body was toned, her movements confident, as if accustomed to handling difficult situations with speed and calm.
She quickly realized the source of the shout was the infirmary. Without any hesitation, she lifted her leg and rushed towards the place with quick, decisive steps.
Upon reaching the infirmary door, she froze for a moment, her eyes widening as she stared at the horrifying chaos before her.
The dismembered corpses of zombies were scattered everywhere, overturned and torn apart in a brutal manner, as if a tremendous force had swept through the place. The blood and signs of destruction on the floor and walls were no less horrifying, spread with terrifying force—a sight that would likely make any ordinary person feel nauseous and perhaps even vomit immediately.
But Saeko was no ordinary person. On the contrary, she found the sight… interesting. She even found a kind of appeal and excitement in it, something that stirred her passion rather than binding her with horror. Tension and fear surrounded her, but her eyes shone with an appreciation for the violent energy that dominated the place.
After finishing her examination of the horrific yet intriguing scene, Saeko focused her gaze on the closed infirmary door. She could hear faint voices coming from inside, words not clearly understood but confirming that there were people alive behind the door. Driven by curiosity, she approached with confident steps and tried to open the door gently.
But it was clear the door was firmly locked. Her attempt to open it failed, and it seemed her attempt had disturbed those inside, as the faint voices suddenly ceased, as if they had stopped moving or speaking immediately.
"Who's there?"
A man's voice rang out, different from the earlier angry shout she had heard. It was clear the other party realized she was a living human; the sounds couldn't have come from zombies, who lack the ability to think or attempt to open doors consciously.
Saeko took a deep breath, then said in a low but clear enough voice to reach those inside:
"I'm Busujima Saeko, third year, and president of the Kendo Club. I came to see if anyone needed help after hearing the shout."
Her words were calm and firm, reflecting her self-confidence and ability to face any situation, while her heart beat with caution and anticipation for what would happen next.
Inside the infirmary, Haru and the others exchanged a brief glance for a moment before he broke the silence and began speaking calmly and firmly:
"Let's open the door… She doesn't seem to be a zombie. Moreover, she's the head of the Kendo Club and possesses enough combat strength to help us get out of the school."
His words were carefully calculated. With his superhuman senses, he was able to confirm that Saeko wasn't infected or anything similar, making her someone they could rely on for the time being.
As for the character of the other party, he didn't know anything about her yet. But that wasn't a major concern for him; after all, she was just an ordinary human, lacking the strength to face someone like him—a Ghoul with abilities no ordinary person could match.
Haru and Kazu cooperated once more. They moved the furniture and all obstacles in front of the infirmary door, then carefully pushed it open for Saeko.
"Come in."
Haru said quietly, making way for her to enter the infirmary, his voice steady as usual despite the tension surrounding the place.
Upon Saeko's entry, everyone couldn't help but notice her striking presence. Shizuka, Sora, and Kazu immediately felt the impact of her powerful and attractive appearance, but their reactions differed noticeably.
For Shizuka, Sora, and even Haru, Saeko's appearance wasn't a great shock. They were accustomed to seeing beautiful women, and her beauty wasn't beyond expectation.
But for Kazu… it was completely different.
He fell silent for a moment, then stared at Saeko, his eyes widening intensely from shock and astonishment. His face suddenly turned as red as a tomato; clearly, Saeko's captivating beauty had thrown him into deep confusion. It seemed as if her charming allure had affected him more than he expected, and despite his attempts to control himself, he couldn't hide his complete bewilderment.
Her appearance was clearly more than an innocent boy like him could handle.
"Are you injured anywhere?"
Haru asked the girl quietly, his eyes moving from her head to her toes, examining her carefully. This question didn't stem from personal concern for Saeko, but was a way to reassure the others in the room. It was clear to everyone that no one wanted to stay near someone who might turn into a zombie at any moment and attack them.
"No, I'm perfectly fine."
Saeko answered honestly, without showing any sign of offense. Then she added confidently:
"If you're worried, you can examine my body to confirm I'm not hiding any injuries."
It was clear she wasn't the type to get easily embarrassed, and her words didn't affect Haru in any way, who remained calm and focused as always.
But her effect on Sora was evident. Suddenly, Sora frowned and stared at the girl before her with sharp eyes, her expression unfriendly, as if silently saying, "Don't try to seduce my handsome brother." It seemed Saeko had sparked a kind of rivalry or jealousy in the little fox, while Haru remained affected only by the realistic situation and the logical assessment of danger.
