Chapter 20 - Meeting With Susan

(Damien's POV)

"Damien, I know this must be boring drivel to you." Susan Storm said as we walked behind her, "But you cannot understand how relieved I am that you and Emma are here."

We were in a building where Emma was told to meet up with Susan, a member of the Fantastic Four. She was wearing a formal dress, her beautiful blonde hair combed straight and draping over her shoulders.

"Hm...." I said as I walked

Emma chuckled as we watched, "Do not be rude, my love." She said, "Susan is grateful that you are here."

"For the longest time, we have had an issue here in the city and well....around the world." Susan stopped and looked at us, "Regarding the rights of super-powered individuals."

"The same thing could be said for the Mutants." Emma said, "I have avidly spoken for the rights of Mutants, trying to get them to be in a good light for non-mutants."

Susan nodded, "Yes." She said, "It is all complex when it comes to the specifics, but to me, people are people regardless if they're mutants or not."

I leaned against the wall, "And why must I be involved with this?"

Susan looked at me, "We'll get to that." She said, "I've simply wanted to speak to Emma and discuss a friendly dinner party with some powerful leaders and individuals."

"Politicians, huh?" I said with a sigh, "What would be the point?"

"Some of them are trying to make the world a better place for individuals like us." She said with a slight smile, "Damien, things are changing. There will be a time where everyone could coexist, no matter what they are."

"That would be nice." I said, "But it is quite far-fetched."

"Darling." Emma looked at me, "We could at least try."

"And let me guess, Susan." I said, "I am here to put your superpowered friends at ease. Don't tell me they are still on edge with me."

She sighed, "Damien." She said, "I would be lying if I said that many powerful....friends...of mine are wary of your power. I mean, you have the power to alter reality, for crying out loud. You are a Living God and not many seem to understand that. Those that do are simply afraid."

"I know that." I said, tilting my head, "So I ask again, what is my presence helping you with? Besides putting them at ease."

"You have been silent for a while now." She said, "You haven't made any moves, aside from helping out here and there. That worries people, you know? If they don't know what you're doing, they will be rather uneasy."

"I'm married, Susan." I said, gesturing at Emma, "What do you think I am doing? I'm spending time with my wife, trying to have a good life? What is there to be concerned about?"

Emma didn't say anything, simply crossed her arms while looking at me.

Susan gave me a slight frown, "I am aware of that." She said, "I know your married and believe me when I say this; I am happy for the two of you. I am glad that my old friend has finally found someone to spend her life with. And you, Damien, you are a good soul. I know that. But not many do. Most don't like you, I have to be blunt with you. They don't trust you and they will rather keep you in their sights at all times."

"And you're going to hand me to them without issue?" I raised an eyebrow

"Damien!" Emma scowled, "Do not suggest that Susan would do that! She knows better than to betray our trust. We have been through a lot, you know that."

"She's right, Damien." She said, "I would never do that."

"I know that." I said, "But if your philanthropy work will involve me and potentially put me in a conflict with others, I don't know what to think of it."

Emma looked at me, "She asked us nicely to do her a favor." She said, "This is a good thing she's doing; to better the relationship between regular humans and superpowered individuals, including Mutants. That is what I have been doing for a long time, as long as Charles."

"I don't trust this at all." I said, crossing my arms, "I really don't. Susan, I'm sorry, but I think there is something else at play."

She let out a sigh, "I'm sorry how this looks." She said, looking at me with a worried smile, "To make it up to you, let's have dinner at my place tonight then. I'll try to explain everything, okay?"

I nodded slowly, "Sure, sure....."

Emma looked at me with a serious frown, "Do not be so rude." She told me, "We came with good intentions, remember."

I still couldn't shake up the feeling that something was up. I know Susan would never try to do something sinister to us, but I still don't know about this.

"Hm...." I said

Susan walked up to me, "Loosen up, okay?" She tapped my chest, "It'll be fine. I would never do anything to endanger you or Emma. Well, not like you could be in any danger, with the power you possess."

"Maybe it's not you, Susan." I said, "But someone out there might want to not harm this power, but wield it against someone else. It had always been this way."

She nodded, "I understand.' She said, "But again, I offer dinner, okay? I'll cook."

"That sounds lovely." Emma walked over to me, hugging my arm, "I'll ensure this boy behaves tonight. At what time, Susan?"

"Does 7 sound good?" Susan asked, a smile on her face

I shrugged, "Sure."

"Yes, we'll be there." Emma said, "In the meantime, allow me to take this boy back to our room and correct his behavior."

Susan covered her mouth and chuckled, "Oh my." She said, blushing slightly, "Are you going to do what I think you'll do?"

"Maybe." Emma gave her a wink

"We're here for appropriate business." she turned around and chuckled, "Let's not get carried away."

"Fufu~" Emma said as she grabbed my ass, "Let me do that for you, getting carried away, that is."

"I'll fix this one's attitude."
