The Investigation Begins*
Detective Jenkins stepped out of his car and onto the crumbling asphalt of the abandoned asylum's parking lot. The building loomed before him, its tall spires and broken windows like skeletal fingers reaching for the sky. He had been investigating the disappearance of Dr. Emma Taylor for weeks, and this was the last lead he had.
As he entered the asylum, Jenkins couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. He shone his flashlight down the dark corridors, but saw nothing but shadows. He began to search the rooms, his footsteps echoing off the walls.
