Another morning. Another day of darkness stretching ahead-that's what I'd always expected. So why am I covered in blood, gasping for air as I run from the Vitale mansion, flames licking at its walls like hungry tongues?

- FLASHBACK -

I fell asleep alone, as I always did. Before bed, the maids had tended to me-helping me bathe, dress, eat. Things Lucian used to do, back when he'd been home. Things I'd grown so used to, their absence felt like a weight on the mattress beside me.

I found myself wondering again: When will he come home? When will I get to ask him-really ask him-why he married me? When will he finally come back to kill me?

Questions piled up in my chest like stones, heavy and unanswerable.
