Chapter 2 - Its all about family

"Harlan. Oh my god, are you ok? We were so worried," I could see Martha was out of breath, she was worried sick. I was apparently unconscious for 2 weeks. Does that count as a coma? Clark was sitting in a chair on the side of the bed, smiling slightly, but I could see his shoulders were still tense. He looked a little forlorn

"I'm glad you're alright, Harlan. Who else would miss every shot when we one v one in basketball?" Clark said with fake snark in his voice. He snorted in disbelief." I recall you losing plenty of times and having to resort to.....cheating," He grinned over at Clark, and he grinned back, shoulders loosening,

"Cheating," Clark replied, gasping and holding his hand over his heart," I'm only using my natural talents." Yeah, being from Krypton does give you heaps of natural talent. "Still cheating in my book," he answered grumpily, standing up and stretching, with his arm locked over his head. He let out a big grunt and sighed happily. Clark laughed and stood up with him. Clark put his hand on my shoulder and shook me a bit. He shoved Clarks hand and tried to kick him in the butt when he passed. He sped out of reach before it landed and walked over to Mom.

"I'm gonna go check on dad," Clark told her, and then left the room. Mom smiled up at him and nodded. Once he left the room, she slowly walked toward Harlan. She put her hand on his face and looked at him with tears in her eyes. She pulled him into a tight hug.

" I really am glad you're ok, sweetie. We all are. You should've seen your dad and Clark. I had to hide the keys from them so they could get some work done around the house," she laughed, but I could still hear sadness in her voice, and I could feel her body shaking slightly. He hugged her back tightly. Tears started to fall from my eyes. " I thought I lost my baby boy. I sat there holding your hand, singing that song you used to like when you were younger. I was so scared you wouldn't wake up."

At this point, we were both crying pretty badly. Her for the son she almost lost. He was crying because he had never really known a mother's love. It made him realize what he had been missing his whole life, and he never wanted to let go.

"It's alright, I'm here, I'm still here. I'm Sorry for worrying you guys. I love you and Dad. Oh, and I guess Clark, too," he added jokingly, trying to lighten the mood. She lightly jabbed his ribs and stepped back, still holding his arm. Her blue eyes were still moist, but she seemed better.

" Doc said you're good to go, son." Dad declared as he stepped through the door. His eyes landed on us, and he gave Mom and me a big hug." Glad you're safe, son that's all that matters." Dad gripped my shoulders and smiled at me. He only just noticed that they were almost the same height. He had maybe an inch or two on his dad. That would make his new body around 6'4. Damn, the farmer life ain't no joke. In his last life, he was only 5'8.

As Clark came back into the room, we gathered everything in the room and left. As we were walking down the hallway, it seemed we were stopped every two seconds by someone or another congratulating him on his recovery. He leaned over and whispered to Clark. "So what's been going on while I was otherwise occupied?" Clark whispered back in the same tone." A lot of people from school came up here a few times, just to check how you were doing. They had a whole assembly with the elementary schoolers just to make you a big get-well card. Almost everyone in the school signed it. We lost our football game. Oh, yeah, also, we kinda forgot about that plant you had, so it's probably dead. Sorry." Clark said sheepishly. Harlan stared at him unimpressed, then just shook his head. He had all of the original Harlan memories, and even he didn't really care about it. There was no difference between them, except for the fact that the original was smart. Like stupid smart. He was a genius in mechanical engineering. All that knowledge was now his, and it was a lot.

They finally managed to escape the hospital and made their way toward the truck. He and Clark hopped in the back, and Mom and Dad got in front. It was now around 7 o'clock and getting dark. On the way back to the farm, he and Clark talked about everything and nothing. Clark just seemed glad to have his brother back, and I was just glad to have one.

They got to the house and went inside." I'll finish up dinner. I've had some ham cooking, and it should be done in about an hour. Harlan, go get cleaned up, and then you can set the table. Clark, I think your dad needs you in the barn." Mom was like a commander when she entered the house and immediately started working. He and Clark just looked at each other and hurried to comply. Scary, he thought, though he smiled as I made my way upstairs. Having a mother felt nice.

He walked into his room and stopped. It was....chaotic. There were books along the left stacked half as high as the ceiling. There was a desk in the corner covered in spare mechanical parts, electrical wiring, and all sorts of things. His floor was deep brown wood, and his wallpaper was a light green. There was another desk by the bed, and this one held a computer. He remembers that he tweaked it a little and upgraded its processing unit to make it faster. He had more planned, but the avalanche of critters put a damper on his plans.

He grabbed clothes and headed into the shower. After he took off his clothes, he looked in the mirror and whistled. He stood at a whopping 6'4. His skin was the color of bronze, and he was built. His body looked like he had been modeling for a living. He has a sharp jawline and a sturdy chin. His hair was short, falling just below his eyes when wet. It was a dark color and seemed to absorb the light. He had bright green eyes that oozed curiosity. He had to admit. He was pretty good-looking. He looked below the belt and grinned. Looks like I got more than just brains. He stepped into the shower and let the hot water cascade down his body.

He was so comfortable that he almost didn't hear Mom yelling at him to come down. He hurriedly shut the water off, dried, and got dressed. He vaulted down the stairs and saw Mom looking at him with a smile on her face. " You don't have to be so eager to set the table. No one is going to take it from you.: she teased lightly, turning back to the oven and pulling out a glazed ham. He just stood there with his mouth open, drooling slightly when she turned back around. He hurriedly set the table just as Dad and Clark came in.

" Dad needed me to pick up the tractor so he could fix something underneath." Clark remarked," And he did a fine job. When you get out of school Tomorrow, I'll need that brain of yours, Harlan. There's something wrong with the swather. I was gonna have someone come take a look at it, but if you're up to it, we can tackle it tomorrow." I nodded as I watched Mom place ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and bread in front of me. " Sounds good dad, thanks mom.." I wasted no time as I dug in. All three looked at me." What I haven't really eaten in weeks. They chuckled and dug in themselves. After we all finished, we talked for about an hour. Then I retired to my room. On the way up clark grabbed my arm," You wanna go to the talon with me after everything's done tomorrow," Clark said tiredly. I stifled a yawn of my own and nodded my agreement.

In his room, as he lay on my bed, he thought about tomorrow. School. Meeting so many people from the show. Lana, Chloe, Pete, Whitney, and so many more. It's also where a lot of the weird stuff happened. He wondered how he would survive. So many things happened in Smallville. Guys shooting electricity, sucking the fat out of someone, freezing them to death. Prophecies body swapping, vampires, aliens, and more. He was pretty nervous about it all. But you know what they say, 'Take no Thought for the morrow, for sufficient unto the day is the trouble thereof'. Which, in layman's terms, means I'm going to sleep, and I'll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. And with that, he shut his eyes and let the darkness drive away the light.

( I know my writing isn't the best. I'm just starting. If you give me time, I'll get better.)

(So ends another chapter. For those wondering. Yes, he gets powers. The next chapter will explain them. Yes, there is romance. He is reincarnated, but he was 17 when he died, and he's 16 here, so no underage girl. See you guys next time.)
