Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Shanks's Teaching

"Hurry up, Luffy, Ace, you two idiots! Today is the first day of special training. A pirate with a bounty in the hundreds of millions is coming to help you train. If you dare to screw up, you can forget about eating meat for a whole month."

Luffy talked back, "Seriously, why are you nagging like a Tigress? I didn't see you this excited when Vice Admiral Garp came."

Hera said, "Garp is strong, but can he raise children? All he knows is throwing people into the sky or sending them into the forest. Does he even have a brain for raising kids?"

Ace asked curiously, "Then how can you be sure Shanks can teach us? It's one thing to drag Luffy along, but why bring me too? Dadan clearly told me not to associate with these pirates."

Hera said, "Hmph, since you asked, I'll tell you a secret. Shanks grew up on Pirate King Roger's ship when he was a kid. Teaching us will definitely be no problem."

Hera added, "This is a secret, so don't go spreading it around." She thought to herself, 'Now these two should take their training a bit more seriously.'"

Luffy's eyes lit up upon hearing this, and he dragged Ace as they ran toward the pirate ship by the shore.

When the three arrived at the spot, they saw Shanks already waiting for them. Along with Shanks, Beckman had also come along.

Seeing Shanks, Luffy shouted excitedly, "Shanks! I heard you were in the Roger Pirates. Have you seen the Pirate King? Tell us about Roger!"

Hera said angrily, "Luffy, you idiot! Didn't I tell you not to say anything?"

Shanks felt a bit helpless. "As expected of Garp's grandson. Little girl, you don't need to be nervous. Quite a few people know about this. Nowadays, the truly strong people on the sea have all dealt with Roger."

Beckman looked at the reckless Luffy. "This must be Luffy, then the other one must be Ace."

Shanks looked at Ace. "I heard from Hera that you awakened Conqueror's Haki a few days ago. Can you release it now?"

Ace was a bit confused. "I've heard people mention Haki, but what is Conqueror's Haki?"

Shanks slapped his forehead, feeling somewhat helpless. "No wonder the little girl was shouting for me to teach you even though Garp comes by often. What on earth has Garp been teaching you?"

Luffy said, "When Grandpa Garp comes, he just throws us up, and sometimes he puts us in the mountains and forests for wilderness survival."

Beckman also felt a bit helpless hearing this. "Is this the hero of the marines? He's like a child. What kind of education is this?"

Shanks chimed in, "Since that old man Garp didn't tell you anything, I'll teach you some basic knowledge. Today, at the very least, you need to know what the truly strong require."

Luffy felt a bit bored hearing that there would be a lesson. "Can't we just train directly? I don't want to listen to this, it's so boring."

Hearing Luffy say this, a vein popped on Hera's forehead, and she prepared to give Luffy another punch.

Shanks spoke first, "Don't be in a hurry to train. You must first know the goals of training and the direction for becoming stronger. Only then will the training be more effective. After I finish speaking, you can show me your current fighting styles, and I will adjust the training content based on that."

He then added, "Luffy, if you listen carefully, I can tell you some stories about Roger after we finish training."

Only then did Luffy become serious and start listening to the lesson properly.

Shanks continued, "On this sea, there are several ways to become stronger. The most important among them are Devil Fruits and the Three Types of Haki."

"Devil Fruits depend on luck. A top-tier fruit can make you stronger, but you need to constantly train your fruit abilities and develop the powers the devil fruit brings."

"If you don't have a devil fruit, what you can train to become stronger is the Three Types of Haki. This refers to Armament Haki, which strengthens oneself; Observation Haki, which enhances perception; and the legendary Conqueror's Haki, which only a very few people can awaken."

"Haki cultivation is the foundation of everything. Even if you have a good fruit, neglecting Haki cultivation will eventually come at a price."

At this moment, Ace finally remembered that Dragon seemed to have mentioned that he had awakened Conqueror's Haki at such a young age, but at that time, he only noticed that Dragon called him 'that man's child'."

Shanks continued, "In addition to Haki and fruits, there are also practices in skills like Taijutsu, Swordsmanship, and sniping. A truly strong person has no weaknesses. Haki is the foundation, while fruits and skills are means of attack. Only by building a solid foundation while mastering stronger means of attack can one become a powerhouse capable of entering the New World."

Then Shanks said, "One by one, attack me with your strongest means. Let me see your strength."
