Chapter 547 - Chapter 547: The Book of Truth

Chapter 547: The Book of Truth

The man and the daemon sat down across from each other. Kian looked at the Blue Horror, and the Blue Horror kept its head down, picking at its fingers.

Kian clicked his tongue and raised his hand as if to hit it.

The Blue Horror yelped "Eek!" and covered its head.

Kian scoffed and asked:

"So who do you work for?"

The Blue Horror said quietly, "The B... Blue Parrot God..."

SMACK!

Kian slapped the Blue Horror so hard it spun in a full circle like a top.

"I know that! I'm asking what you actually do!"

The Blue Horror whimpered.

"I'm a servant of the Scribes. I guard the Book of Truth here."

Kian's eyes lit up. Now he knew what this Blue Horror was.

Tzeentch was a Chaos God of minds and psychic power. Every psychic spell in the universe had at least a little to do with him.

In a sense, every psyker in the universe was a student of Tzeentch.

Because psychic power was so ridiculously OP, Tzeentch had once been stronger than the other three Chaos Gods put together.

So the other three, Khorne, Nurgle, and Slaanesh, ganged up and stomped Tzeentch.

They beat Tzeentch black and blue until his eyes rolled back. He couldn't take it anymore. If they kept stomping him, he was going to die for real, so he started castrating himself.

He scattered the source of his own power, the all-powerful psychic arts, across the entire universe!

That's right. That's why some psykers instinctively know psychic spells the moment they awaken.

Tzeentch flung his own power across the whole galaxy. His power normalized, he was back on par with the other three Chaos Gods, and their alliance against him fell apart.

But even after being beaten until he was shitting himself, Tzeentch still wouldn't admit it. He insisted it was all just as planned.

Yep. Remember that line. It's the catchphrase of every Tzeentchian daemon. You can beat one of them so hard it craps itself, and it'll still tell you it's all just as planned.

And although Tzeentch had openly split his power into countless pieces and scattered them across the galaxy, he was quietly sending agents to collect it back. The main collectors were called the Scribes.

Tzeentch's Scribes were a pair of Blue Horrors standing on a magic disc. Their disc could travel between realspace and the Warp, crossing time and space in an instant.

These two Blue Horrors would often dive into war-torn battlefields, searching for power that might belong to the Changer of Ways.

When they found it, Tzeentch's Scribes would find a way to record it and store it.

The Blue Horror in front of Kian was a servant of the Scribes, assigned to guard a Book of Truth they had left here.

Kian narrowed his eyes and asked:

"What's going on with this planet? Why is it surrounded by Warp fog? Is it all just to keep this so-called Book of Truth?"

The Blue Horror nodded weakly.

"Yes. This planet is the Scribes' library world. The nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine spells they copied are recorded in the Book of Truth.

"To keep the Book of Truth safe, the great Lord of Truth used his mighty power to create a Warp fog and hide this planet.

"The whole planet became a library, and I'm the librarian."

It all clicked for Kian. That explained why Tzeentch had gone to the trouble of making a human planet disappear. It was to store a book!

Kian asked, "So you hid this planet in Warp fog so the Imperium couldn't find it.

"And you caused the Great Forgetting, wiped the memories of everyone on the planet, and steered the world into this feudal age, wrapping everyone in ignorance.

"Using ignorance as the walls of a library to protect knowledge. You daemons, really...

"Where's the book? Take me to it. And how do I get rid of the Warp fog over this planet?"

The Blue Horror reluctantly led Kian to the very centre of the castle keep's library.

There stood a stone pedestal, and on it lay a very old book of parchment. It was very thick, like a dictionary.

The Blue Horror pointed at the book and said:

"This is the Book of Truth the two Scribes spent centuries of toil recording. It contains nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine spells in all.

"The book itself is an artefact. If you take it off the pedestal, the Warp storm shrouding this planet will disappear."

Kian kicked the Blue Horror in the butt.

"You get up there and take that book down!"

The Blue Horror dropped to its knees with a thud.

"Th-th-that's impossible! I'm the librarian! I'm not allowed to touch the Book of Truth! If I do, my soul will be torn apart by the backlash!!"

Golden light gathered in Kian's big hand. He was about to finish it off with an Imperishable Grip.

"H-hai!"

The Blue Horror flinched in terror and hurried over to the Book of Truth.

It gulped, its eyes full of fear.

It glanced back at Kian, who was already shadowboxing where he stood. Terrified, it quickly put all three of its hands on the Book of Truth at once, meaning to lift it off the pedestal.

But the moment its hands touched the Book of Truth, a torrent of Warp energy surged out of the book and into the Blue Horror's body.

The Blue Horror let out a cry, and its body burst into pieces.

Kian clicked his tongue. He had a feeling this Blue Horror was finished. That flood of pure, overwhelming psychic power had probably shattered its soul into pieces, the kind that could never be put back together!

His scout was dead, and now Kian was the only one left in the library.

He still had to move the book, or this world would stay shrouded in Warp fog forever.

He rubbed his chin and circled the Book of Truth three times, a little wary of going up and moving it.

Warp artefacts like this, especially ones tied to a Chaos God, were extremely dangerous!

But if he didn't move the book, the Warp fog over this planet would never lift, and that wasn't acceptable either!

Kian had looked at it with his Warp-sight. The so-called Book of Truth was attached to countless threads of pure Warp energy.

Those threads led off into the world around it, pulling on a vast expanse of Warp fog.

If the book wasn't moved, the Warp fog would never disperse.

Kian raised both hands, gathered a golden psychic lightning blade, and blasted the Book of Truth.

After a crackle of explosions, the Book of Truth didn't so much as twitch.

He stood far back and threw other books at the Book of Truth. Nothing.

He found a bamboo pole and poked at the Book of Truth, trying to push it off the pedestal. Still nothing. It was as if the thing had been welded to the pedestal.

After fiddling with it for a long time, Kian was out of ideas. He'd have to take the book with his own hands.

First he sat down cross-legged and meditated until his whole body was charged with golden psychic power and the holy-scripture tattoos on his muscles glowed gold. Only then did he stand up and reach for the book.

"I don't care what scheme you're running, you Blue Parrot God. If you've got the guts, come at me, and we'll let the Emperor go a round with you and see who's tougher!"
