Chapter 59 - Chapter 59: The Mastermind Behind the Scenes

After entering the room, little Flandre Scarlet looked directly at the target.

The man was lying on the autopsy table. An autopsy had not yet been performed, but the Forensic Doctor had determined the cause of death based on several characteristics observed after the man died. After observing carefully for a while, Flandre asked, "What did he eat yesterday, and who did he have contact with before he went to sleep? Or who had contact with him after he fell asleep?"

"What's wrong?" Char Siu Cat asked.

"It is indeed ruptured internal organs, but this kind of death isn't internal bleeding caused by a fall. His heart and spleen are shattered into several pieces, and there are obvious abnormalities in his liver... plus, the smell of his blood is wrong. It should have been two groups of people. The first group poisoned him... that's why the liver and blood abnormalities appeared. As for the second group, they directly crushed his heart and spleen. There are indeed similar moves in spells, but they aren't this crude, so it wasn't magic."

Flandre's words startled the two of them. Pink Sausage Dragon stayed behind to accompany Flandre, while Char Siu Cat rushed to the surveillance room.

Upon arriving at the surveillance room, Char Siu Cat inquired about yesterday's surveillance footage. The person in charge pulled it up after hearing her request.

"There's no problem?" Char Siu Cat watched it on fast-forward for a while, then pointed at the monitor and said, "This is what you call 'no problem'? According to Guard Department regulations, there should be a patrol at least every fifteen minutes to confirm that the suspect is still in the cell. But look at this—for over an entire hour, let alone making a sound, this person hasn't moved an inch! This isn't surveillance; it's a photo. Do you understand? It's a photo!"

Char Siu Cat's fury turned the face of the person in charge deathly pale.

"This is Chen Huijie. Notify the colleagues in the Information Department to send someone to the surveillance room immediately. I suspect our internal surveillance has been tampered with," Char Siu Cat said, picking up the walkie-talkie nearby.

People from the Information Department arrived quickly and began troubleshooting the equipment. High-ranking officials from the Guard Department also arrived at the scene. After all, if someone could tamper with the internal surveillance of the Guard Department, it was simply terrifying.

The results of the investigation came out quickly. The surveillance for that area had indeed been replaced with a static photo. The time of replacement was 11:00 PM, which was when the Guard Department's night shift handover occurred. When faced with numerous monitors, the person taking over the shift didn't notice the abnormality in this particular camera's feed. By the time they discovered something had happened to the person in the morning, it was already after the morning shift handover.

"Who was in charge of the surveillance room last night?" Knowing the matter was serious, the person in charge asked hurriedly.

"It was Officer Wang..." someone nearby said.

"Call him back immediately! Brothers from the Information Department, sorry to trouble you, but please check the entire surveillance network." The person in charge first had someone call back the officer who was on duty last night, and then spoke to the Information Department staff.

"We would have done that even if you didn't ask. However, we need to go to this surveillance point first to see exactly what happened, and what means the other party used to intrude and change the surveillance," the Information Department staff member replied, then took the equipment and went to the place where the prisoner had been held.

Char Siu Cat looked at the monitor with a grim expression; this surveillance lead had also been cut off. She told the person in charge about the trouble. The person in charge frowned as he looked at the surveillance equipment.

"The other party should have only blocked this one camera, so it's possible the others might have captured him. If we check the nearby surveillance, we'll know if there were any issues last night."

Char Siu Cat nodded; currently, she could only hope it was as he said.

Another half hour passed, and after several rounds of screening, they finally locked onto three suspects.

The first one was around nine o'clock, bringing a cup of water to the suspect, but at that time, the suspect hadn't asked for water due to thirst. So why would he suddenly hand the other person a cup of water? And it seemed like the two of them were communicating.

The second one was around 10:40, walking around the station several times. Since he was also wearing Guard Department clothing, no one paid much attention. But those present stated they had no impression of him.

The third one entered the Guard Department following the former around 11:30, also wearing Guard Department clothing, and because he was with the former, no one paid them much attention. Then, ten minutes later, the two of them returned the way they came and left the Guard Department, disappearing into the night.

"Investigate! Investigate all three of them!" At this moment, the person in charge of the surveillance department was practically boiling over with rage. These guys had committed a crime right under their noses, and inside the Guard Department no less, which made his blood boil with anger.

The facial recognition results came out quickly; the three of them were not Operators of the Guard Department. Furthermore, one of them had already left Lungmen this morning. The last one to appear was a fugitive from Gouwu named Cheng Kun, whose crime was the murder of thirteen members of the Qi Family, including his master. It could be said his crimes were numerous. They just hadn't expected the other party to suddenly appear in Lungmen and murder the suspect from the car accident.

At this moment, Char Siu Cat was somewhat confused. Why would the other party go to such great lengths? After all, if it was just this matter, it would indeed have some impact on little Flandre's reputation, but it would definitely not reach the point of getting her kicked out of Lungmen. She looked at little Flandre, who was sitting on a stool nearby being fed by the Operators. She always felt there was something else she didn't know or had missed; otherwise, she would definitely not have this feeling of looking at the case through a fog.

At this time, little Flandre was using magic to peek at the actions of those she had previously locked onto.

"Little Flandre, let me take you for a walk around here!" Seeing her sitting there with a bored look on her face, Hoshiguma hoisted her up and said.

"Yay!" Little Flandre happily rode on Hoshiguma's neck, and the two of them walked through the corridor.

Suddenly, little Flandre saw a familiar face. "Hoshiguma, Hoshiguma, who is he?" little Flandre asked, pointing at the photo wall not far away.

Hearing little Flandre's words, Hoshiguma looked up in the direction she was pointing. "Oh, that's Deputy Director Chang Wei, a very kind person. Unfortunately, he's not good at combat, so he usually stays in the rear, responsible for the dispatch and command of officers. He's also the head of the Guard Department's Logistics Department. Why, do you know him?"

"No, it's just that I saw everyone else on here during the speeches before, but I didn't recognize him." Little Flandre's words were well-founded because she really hadn't seen this person during the two lectures; otherwise, she would have recognized him long ago.

"Oh, Deputy Director Chang Wei has been unwell lately and has taken a long leave of absence to rest at home. It's been over a month now, I think. Plus, he doesn't usually like to be in the spotlight and keeps a low profile, so it's normal that you don't know him," Hoshiguma continued to explain.

"Oh, then how is his relationship with Governor Wei?"

"With Governor Wei? I haven't heard much about that, but I remember he was personally promoted by Governor Wei! There were even rumors before that he would succeed as the Director of the Guard Department, but those rumors disappeared after Governor Wei took the position himself," Hoshiguma recounted information about him.

Little Flandre squinted at his photo after hearing this. So, why would he send someone to crash into us? After learning the person's name, little Flandre didn't continue questioning. Instead, she followed Hoshiguma and continued touring the Guard Department.

The news of the Guard Department's situation soon reached Wei Yenwu's ears. He said nothing, but that afternoon, several Black Cloak Shadow Guards left Lungmen. In the city, whether in the slums or the streets and alleys, a large number of guards suddenly appeared and began conducting inspections everywhere.

"Damn it, Laifu, how did you handle things? Why were you exposed so quickly!" In the bedroom of an ordinary house, Chang Wei asked the man beside him.

The man beside him was the same one who had picked up Chang Wei twice before; he looked aggrieved. "Please, how was I supposed to know the Lungmen Guard Department cops would react so fast? You said yourself that with the Guard Department's reaction speed, they wouldn't start a manhunt until the afternoon at the earliest. Besides, the reason we didn't successfully get out was because you said you wanted to silence that Cheng Kun, but the guy ended up escaping... Ouch, why did you hit me... Believe it or not, I'll just give up and blow the whistle. What are you holding in your hand... Chang Wei, I was just joking, don't take it seriously. Shit, you really want to kill me? With your useless self, believe it or not..."

A minute later, Chang Wei walked from the room to the living room with a cold face. He calmly took off his blood-stained coat and threw it back into the bedroom. Then he picked up gasoline and strong liquor from the side, walked in, and splashed them everywhere. He then lit a cigarette, smoked half of it, and threw the remaining half into the bedroom. In an instant, flames roared up. He walked out the front door, locked it from the outside, and ignoring the shouts of "Fire!" from nearby, he went downstairs.

A day later, inside the Lungmen sewers. A man was making his way through the darkness. He cursed as he walked. "Damn it, I thought everyone in Lungmen was rich, but not only did I complete the mission and get no reward, they even fucking wanted to kill me. Luckily, your Great Uncle Cheng kept a trick up his sleeve. Damned sewers, how much longer until the end! There it is! Hahaha, I finally made it out. Accursed Lungmen, I'm never coming back in this lifetime, ptui!"

Just as he stepped out of the sewer, he saw an elderly Zalalak man sitting by the edge of the sewer, fishing.

"Hey, old man, this is a sewer. What the hell are you fishing for?" Perhaps because he had just made it out of the sewer, he felt his whole world was bright and sunny, so he spoke up to tease him.

"You're right, now that the person has arrived, what the hell am I fishing for?" The elderly Zalalak stood up unhurriedly and looked at him.

He instantly became alert. "Were you sent by that dog Chang Wei to block me?"

"Chang Wei... so it was him, what a pity!" The elderly Zalalak let out a sigh. "This old man is Lin Gerui. I've been waiting for you here for a day and a night."

"Lin Gerui... I've heard of you, the underground emperor of Lungmen. Why would you be here! That old thing Chang Wei definitely shouldn't be able to order you around." Hearing the other party introduce himself, Cheng Kun only felt a layer of cold sweat break out on his back.
