Chapter 70 - You Saw the Future—But I Planned Beyond It

"All right…"

Kodai's lips curled into a sinister smile, the kind that came from believing everything was firmly in his grasp.

"Hand over Zoroark and Zorua, and maybe I'll spare the two of you."

Peter lowered his eyes, shoulders slack, looking every bit like someone who had accepted his fate.

"…Fine. Since you've put it that way."

"That's more like it."

The smile on Kodai's face widened, arrogance practically dripping from his tone.

Peter turned around, deliberately exposing his back to the enemy, and walked over to Whitney.

"Peter…"

She looked up at him pitifully, her big eyes filled with tangled emotions—fear, trust, worry.

Peter's mouth twitched, but he said nothing. Instead, his gaze met Zoroark's crimson eyes.

"Go," he said quietly.

"If you don't… the toxin inside you will kill you both."

"Zo…rua…"

Zorua clutched Peter's pant leg with its tiny paws, looking up at him pitifully.

Peter knelt and gently rubbed its head, then looked back at Zoroark.

Zoroark paused… then nodded.

It picked Zorua up in its mouth and slowly began walking toward Kodai.

Rustle… rustle…

Fox paws brushed against the grass, each step soft and deliberate. Kodai's grin grew more unrestrained with every second.

After all, he needed Zoroark alive—to serve his grand plan.

If it cooperated obediently, things couldn't have gone better.

As Zoroark reached him and Kodai's guard finally relaxed—

Peter suddenly roared:

"NOW! Lopunny—BATON PASS! MILTANK—GIGA IMPACT!!!"

"What?!"

Kodai's expression changed instantly.

The Lopunny that had been lying motionless on the ground vanished like smoke—

and from another patch of grass, a second Lopunny leapt into the air, a starlit baton spinning from its hands!

In the next heartbeat, the battered Poké Ball in Whitney's hand burst open.

The old Gym Leader's Miltank caught the glowing baton in its mouth.

Six radiant flashes exploded across its body—

Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed—all skyrocketing at once!

Six stages boosted.

400% total amplification!

MOO—!

Miltank's hooves slammed into the ground.

Cracks spiderwebbed outward as its round body transformed into a living cannonball. A spiraling shockwave formed in front of it as it charged forward with terrifying momentum!

"Hah! Are you joking?"

Kodai sneered.

"Using a Normal-type move against Ghost-types?!"

But before he could finish laughing—

Miltank's belly smashed directly into Mismagius and Banette.

"KYAA—!!!"

Both Pokémon screamed as they were blasted away. Their already unstable forms turned half-transparent before collapsing unconscious on the spot!

Miltank didn't slow down.

It pivoted sharply, leapt, and slammed into the two Scizor—

BOOOOM!!!

Already injured from Zoroark's earlier attack, the Scizor were driven straight into the earth, completely incapacitated.

"You—! How is this—?!"

Kodai didn't even finish his sentence.

From the tree behind him, Slakoth dropped like a meteor.

BAM! BAM!

One punch per person—Kodai and Guen collapsed instantly.

"Laaa—laaa!"

Slakoth plopped its rear down on Kodai's head, grabbed his hair, and began raining down sloppy slaps.

Smack! Smack! Smack!

In seconds, Kodai's face had swollen into something resembling a pig's head.

"Yoo—how ish dish possibull?!"

Kodai roared through mangled lips, glaring at Peter.

Peter smiled calmly.

"Miltank's Ability," he said lightly,

"is Scrappy."

Scrappy:

Normal- and Fighting-type moves can hit Ghost-type Pokémon.

Unaffected by Intimidate.

Ignoring Kodai's howls, Peter picked up the unconscious Indeedee, then released Dolliv and Lopunny, carefully applying medicine to their injuries.

"Peter! You were amazing!"

Whitney, who had been on the verge of tears earlier, suddenly beamed and ran over, planting a loud kiss on his cheek.

"…!"

Kodai's body twitched violently. He nearly passed out on the spot.

So the airheaded girl was acting too?!

"Zorua! Zorua~!"

Zorua hopped down from its mother's back and ran to Peter, tail wagging happily.

Peter picked it up and affectionately pinched its cheek.

"Well done, little one."

"Zorua~!

(Of course!)"

Peter glanced at Kodai, his signature smile returning.

"I'll let you understand everything before you lose consciousness."

Kodai stopped screaming.

He didn't get it.

He had seen the future—so why hadn't he been able to stop any of this?

As if reading his mind, Peter shrugged.

"Foresight isn't omnipotent," he said.

"Especially not your unstable, on-and-off bargain-bin version."

"And besides…"

"The future you saw?"

"That was only my first layer."

Kodai: "???"

He spat blood and demanded,

"Then… what layer were you on?!"

Peter sighed helplessly and began counting on his fingers.

"Fifth."

"First layer: using Zorua and Zoroark's illusion abilities to fake Lopunny and Indeedee's defeat, making you think your countermeasures worked—so you'd relax."

"Second layer: while I stalled with acting, the real Lopunny had already fully boosted. One Baton Pass into a Gym-tier Miltank, and your Pokémon were finished."

"Third layer: just in case, I decided it'd be safer to attack the Trainers directly—so Slakoth drops in from behind. Left hook, right hook, bonus 'pretty punch.'"

Peter glanced at Kodai's swollen face.

"Judging by the results—pretty effective."

"As for the fourth layer…"

"Indeedee, you can release Psychic Terrain and Trick Room now."

"Ai~"

Indeedee stepped out from the bushes, smiling gently as the battlefield's distortions faded.

Cold sweat poured down Kodai's face.

Wait… wasn't I supposed to be the one who could see the future?!

How did this kid not only predict everything I did… but also stack FOUR backup plans on top of it?!

At this point, Kodai was questioning reality itself.

Peter smiled, clearly enjoying the expression.

"When it comes to the future, you can never be too careful."

"And honestly…"

"I was still hiding a fifth layer."

If a normal Zoroark could be eroded by Ghost-type energy…

what about switching it into a Hisuian form—Normal/Ghost?

Even if Kodai somehow cracked the first four layers—

It wouldn't matter.

Zoroark was already right beside him.

One Form Converter tossed over…

and it could've stood up and ended everything with a single strike.

After all—

Normal + Ghost completely dominates pure Ghost-types.
