Chapter 9 - Support Mage

Kai staggered backwards after he finished killing the wolf. He stared at the body on the ground in silence.

[Green_Lord: That was crazy, using your fist? Damn bro]

[Savage-Rider22: You are one crazy player, lol]

[Green_Lord gifted a Rocket]

[Savage-Rider22 gifted a Dragon]

Kai stood there still, taking in everything that happened. He let out a very deep breath, and then a smile formed on his face.

"I did it guys, thanks for the gifts," he said, and then swung himself forward, walking into the cave. The heirloom was inside that cave, and now that the wolves were gone, he could retrieve it.

He went in deep, and then saw it lying there, a book, but as he reached for the book, he noticed something move. Very quickly, he took a step back in fear, eyes looking for what it was.

The creature let out a small whimper. Kai saw the outline of the creature, a small puppy hidden there.

"A puppy," Kai muttered. He slowly reached out for it, but the wolf backed down into the darkness even more.

"Sigh, I'm sorry I have to kill your entire family, but I guess life happens," Kai said, and then turned his attention back to the book.

He picked it up. The back was made from black leather, and on the front was the depiction of an eye, engraved into the leather back.

Kai became curious. He wanted to open the book, but he pushed the thought away, not wanting to sabotage his quest. With the book in hand, he got up and headed out, leaving the puppy behind.

He got out of the cave, and Mira was waiting for him. Her eyes lit up the moment she saw him with the book, and she rushed forward.

Kai handed the book to her, and she immediately collected it with eagerness, but then she paused, looking behind Kai. Her eyes shined even more, more than when she had seen the book.

"Eeeeeeeee," she let out an excited scream, pushed the book into Kai's hands, and then went behind him, grabbing the puppy that had followed Kai out.

Karma was shocked to see that the puppy had followed him out.

Mira began petting the puppy eagerly. She turned and looked at Kai. "It's cute," she said.

"Yeah yeah, can I get my reward now?" he asked, but she ignored him, still heavily focused on the puppy.

"Can I keep him?" she suddenly asked Kai.

Kai gave her a confused look. It wasn't his own, neither did he have control over what the girl did, but regardless, he decided to answer.

"Sure, why not," he said casually, and her smile immediately widened. She hugged the puppy close to her.

[You have completed the Special Quest, Retrieve the Heirloom]

[Reward, Mage Mira will aid you in all your travels going forward, until her family comes for her]

Kai read the reward for his quest, and he was immediately stunned.

"What? Mage Mira?" He turned and looked at her. She smiled at him.

"Are you a mage?" he asked.

"Yes indeed, a support mage. The heirloom is my family's grimoire. It contains spells for support from ancient times," she said, explaining the situation.

"A support mage? How are you only a support mage? If you are a mage, shouldn't you at least learn some level of attacking magic to protect yourself?" he asked, but she shook her head.

"Daddy said no, said such magic is too dangerous for me, and I should only learn to support, and the time for me to use them will come one day.

Maybe this is the time, maybe I am to support you," she said with a bright smile.

Kai didn't know how to react to this, but he wasn't going to refuse such help. He had felt her support magic twice now, and that was when she didn't even have the grimoire, so he wondered how good she would be if she did.

"What about your family, where are they?" he asked.

"Mum and Dad left to do something important. They didn't say when they would be back, but they said I should explore the world and they would come back one day.

My siblings really don't like me leaving, so I had to sneak out with Mum's help. If my siblings knew where I was, they would burn the city to find me," she explained, the same smile still on her face.

"I don't really think you should explain something like that with a smile on your face," Kai said, "but I'd love for you to come with me and help me out."

"Yay," she said, and then started skipping away with the wolf in her hands, leaving Kai with the book.

[Dead_Seeker1: Bro just got a support mage companion from a mission, did dude max out luck or something?]

[LordGooner143: a few years older and she would have made a perfect companion]

"Lord, please don't say things like that," Kai palmed his face. "Don't try to sexualize her," he added.

[Savage-Lord22: You really need to touch some grass LordGooner143]

Kai ignored the chats that were rolling in and looked at the body of the wolf. If he sold that, he would certainly have some coins to use.

He walked over to it, but then realized that his current inventory space couldn't carry the entire wolf.

"Chat, what are the best parts of the wolf that I can sell?" he decided to ask.

[Savage-Lord22: The teeth, the fur, the ears, heart, those should work]

Kai took his word for it. He pulled out the broken sword and used a few good minutes cutting out the fur and storing it before taking out the other parts. Then he finally left, meeting with Mira as they returned to the town.
