Chapter 3 - 3

LUCIEN

Everywhere was bustling with preparations for Roderic's party which was to be held tomorrow. As I made my way to my mother's room, the maids and guards I passed by bowed their head in greeting.

I nodded at them and continued on my way. On getting to my mother's room, I went in.

"Hello, mother"

My mother turned to me and smiled widely.

"Greetings, prince Lucien"

It was then I noticed the maid beside my mother. Her hands were folded together in front of her and her head was bowed so low her back I could see her back.

"I'll be on my way, princess," she said and started towards the door but mother held her hand and pulled her back to the bed.

She gasped as she landed on it and my mother narrowed her eyes at her. She averted her eyes and stared down at her lap.

There was a knock on the door and the person walked in after being given permission to enter.

"Greetings, princess Kaela. Greetings, prince Lucien," the royal doctor said with a bow before making his way to mother and the maid.

I tilted my head a little to the side as I studied the maid.

She didn't look that old nor did she look that young though she did look malnourished. If I were to estimate her age, I would say between 19 and 21. She had wavy brown hair which framed her face beautifully. Matching brown eyes that reminded you of chocolate, a small button nose, heart shaped full lips that looked like they were begging to be kissed, lovely pale skin that made me wonder how good it would feel to have my head buried between her milky thighs eating her out to my...

I stopped myself there, willing myself not to complete that thought. What the hell was wrong with me? Just because she piqued my interest doesn't mean I can have immoral thoughts about her.

I brought my mind back to what was happening in the room and I saw the doctor examining her eye. Her eye was so swollen it could barely open. My fist clenched as I thought about strangling who had done that to her.

"Who hit you?" I asked roughly and I saw her shrink back.

"Lucien!"

I turned to my mother and she shook her head.

"How long has your eye been like this?" the doctor asked the maid.

"Since yesterday," she said quietly.

The doctor shook his head as he rummaged through the bag he had come with.

"What is it?" mother asked as she held the girl's hand soothingly.

"For an injury of yesterday to be swollen this much, it's either two things. One, the wound is already infected or two, whatever hit her eye probably hit a sensitive part of the eye."

He brought out a small green bottle and held it out to the girl.

"Two drops of this in your eye morning and night should reduce the swelling then I'll be able to properly diagnose what is wrong"

She collected the bottle with both hands as she whispered her thanks.

The doctor bowed to us again before leaving the room.

"Do you have anyone you're staying with, dear?" mother asked and I noticed the girl shiver as she replied,

"I stay with my aunt"

I heard an undertone of something in her voice but I couldn't identify what it was.

"Alright, dear. You can go now but make sure to go back to the doctor. And whenever you need help, you can always come to me"

"Yes, princess Kaela. Thank you"

She walked past me and out the room but I found myself still staring at the door after she closed it.
