Chapter 85 - Chapter 85: Key Battle — Fire and Water Cannot Coexist!

"Let me say this again—among today's young midfielders, there's only one I recognize, and that's Lin."

Inside the Sky Sports commentary booth, Gerrard pounded his chest with conviction as he praised Leo Lin.

"How are you supposed to defend a shot like that?"

"The speed, the power—I barely even saw it. Just a blur flashing into the net!"

"Liverpool extend the lead once again—3–0!"

Across livestream platforms, the chat exploded.

"If that shot hit me, I'd die on the spot!"

"Just thinking about a midfielder like that playing for Liverpool makes my heart ache as a Real Madrid fan!"

"As a Chelsea supporter, I'm not worried at all—Kanté will teach him a lesson!"

Jon Champion joined in at that moment.

"Premier League Matchday 14—Liverpool are about to face Chelsea."

"Chelsea have the Premier League's top defensive midfielder, Kanté. People say there are no obstacles you can't overcome in this world—only Kantés you can't get past."

"In one-on-one situations, there still hasn't been a midfielder in the Premier League who's been able to gain the upper hand against Kanté."

Klopp then made substitutions, taking off three key starters.

Just three days later, Liverpool were back in action for Premier League Matchday 13, this time against Bournemouth.

Klopp once again opted for rotation. The young prospect Ibe impressed and scored a goal, while Firmino came off the bench to put the finishing touch on the match, sealing a 2–0 win.

Leo Lin, Salah, Mané, and the others did not feature.

Klopp's full focus was on Matchday 14—the clash with Chelsea.

November 8th, Premier League pre-match preview, Jon Champion's special analysis program.

"Another heavyweight showdown. Chelsea may not currently be in the top four, but the gap is minimal."

"One win would take them straight back into fourth, sending Arsenal down to fifth."

"As a result, Arsenal fans have started cheering for Liverpool, while Manchester City fans have suddenly turned into die-hard Chelsea supporters."

After securing back-to-back wins, Liverpool stood unbeaten after 13 matches, with 12 wins and one draw, sitting comfortably at the top of the table. Manchester City followed closely behind with 12 wins and one loss.

Tottenham remained in third place but were clearly starting to run out of steam, their lack of squad depth becoming more obvious.

Arsenal clung to fourth thanks to sheer resilience, but after being held to a 1–1 draw by Hull City in the previous round, a Chelsea victory over Liverpool—having played one fewer match—would see them leap into fourth.

Through Jon Champion's analysis, the Premier League landscape became increasingly clear to fans. With the season approaching its midpoint, Liverpool had a strong chance of claiming the halfway-title—provided they could get past this major test.

"After so many matches, Chelsea's manager will certainly spend extra time studying Liverpool's tactics, especially their key players like Salah, Firmino, and Leo Lin."

"Chelsea have Kanté, while Leo Lin is the most dangerous attacking midfielder in the Premier League this season—the sharpest spear versus the toughest shield."

"So who comes out on top? Let's wait and see."

Chelsea manager Conte was a fiery character, always wearing a fierce expression on the touchline. When his team scored, there was no one in the world more animated than him.

Together with his coaching staff, Conte repeatedly studied Liverpool's tactical approach, designing targeted defensive plans for core players like Leo Lin and Salah. Every time he watched footage of Leo Lin, his brow would furrow and his mood would darken.

"If you told me this kid hasn't taken performance-enhancing drugs, I honestly wouldn't dare believe it."

"He's only eighteen, but he plays like a monster. If you said he was twenty-eight, I wouldn't doubt it for a second."

"But that slightly youthful, handsome face—only an eighteen-year-old could have that. And yet his strength and physicality…"

The more Conte thought about it, the more unsettled he felt. Even with Kanté in his squad, he couldn't shake a lingering sense of unease.

Klopp, meanwhile, was deeply immersed in studying Chelsea's style of play. Under Conte, Chelsea's three-at-the-back system had exploded with energy and consistency. In particular, during transitions, Liverpool excelled at punishing opponents after failed attacks, while Chelsea were masters at exploiting moments after defensive transitions.

Like a set of Russian nesting dolls, Chelsea's three-center-back setup naturally countered Liverpool's strengths. Klopp knew he had to change things up.

November 19th, pre-match tactical briefing.

"In attack, we'll continue with our ultra-high press. Push the line up and don't give Chelsea any breathing room."

"In defense, we change shape. Both wingers drop back into midfield, the striker drops as well, but the two central midfielders push forward."

As soon as Klopp said this, Leo Lin understood—he was planning a reverse-run, forward-surging setup.

With Firmino dropping deep as a pivot, and the two wingers also pulling back, the three forwards would form a midfield link-up. At the same time, Leo Lin would surge forward from deeper positions, using his height and sudden acceleration to catch the opposition off guard and create space ahead.

Then, as the three forwards pushed up together with him, they would link with the advanced midfielders to form a lethal attacking shape—turning defense into a beautifully executed counterattack.

Klopp began drilling the new tactics as the team entered full preparation mode. On November 11th, Premier League Matchday 14 officially kicked off.

Livestreams opened early, and the ESPN broadcast room was packed with fans. The official Premier League poster showed Leo Lin representing Liverpool, flames raging around his body. Chelsea's representative was Kanté, surrounded by splashing water that formed a shield.

Fire and water clashed head-on, neither willing to give an inch.

Title: Key Battle — Fire and Water Cannot Coexist!

In the ESPN broadcast booth, the fan-favorite commentary duo returned once again. Jon Champion took the documents handed to him by his assistant, finished the last sip of his Da Hong Pao tea, straightened his jacket, and went live.

"Hello, football fans. You're watching Premier League Matchday 14, as Liverpool travel away to face Chelsea."

"Both teams have submitted their starting lineups. Let's begin with Liverpool."

"Goalkeeper: Mignolet."

"Defenders: Robertson, Lovren, Matip, Arnold."

"Midfielders: Leo Lin, Emre Can, Henderson."

"Forwards: Mané, Firmino, Salah."

"Now Chelsea, sticking with Conte's familiar three-at-the-back system."

"Goalkeeper: Courtois."

"Defenders: Gary Cahill, Christensen, Azpilicueta."

"Midfielders: Marcos Alonso, Bakayoko, Kanté, Drinkwater, Zappacosta."

"Attacking midfielder: Hazard."

"Striker: Morata."

"Football fans, the Premier League's fiercest flame versus its coldest water shield—the battle is about to begin!
