Chapter 56 - A Simple But Dangerous Plan.

After taking the soup, I stood up, ready to return to my room, but Azrael stopped me. He said I could spend the night in his cabin. It was not a good idea. I knew it. I was not supposed to agree, yet the word yes left my mouth before I could stop it.

It was still better than going back to my cabin to face Trystan. He would be angry that I did not obey him. I could already picture the look in his eyes, the cold silence, the sharp words he would throw at me later.

I knew he would make things hard for me during our next task together. Before we will be paired again, I have to convince Azrael to change my partner. I can not keep walking on broken glass around Trystan.

Azrael kept stepping out of the cabin and coming back in, as if he had things to do, but my mind was far away from him. I kept thinking about what we had talked about earlier. The scales behind my back. The way they had felt under my fingers. Did it truly mean I was sick? Did it mean I could shift at any moment?
